“Carlosgriffin, when you practice wishful thinking, you do it in the large economy size. I laughed out loud reading your ridiculous slant on the so-called re-emergence of "conservatism".
What we are witnessing is only an assault on the national consciousness by corporate media, whose ruling boards interlock with a lot of the same corporations who brought us the economic, military and moral disasters the country is currently undergoing because of unbridled corporate greed and eight years of "conservative"-supported corruption during the GOP/Bush-Cheney regime.
Thankfully, most of us who can still think for ourselves remember readily what these people, and you by extension because of your negligent choices in voting, wrought on what used to be a good country. The nation was reduced from a decent place in the eyes of the world to a laughingstock and object of derision thanks to the despots you helped put in power. Rest assured that won't happen again on our watch.
And Palin is the most pathetic example of the "leaders" you are willing to follow. Palin has the depth of a piece of cellophane. She won't be getting anywhere nationally again, and you can "take that to the bank".”

“Billy, what you wrote makes no sense. You drive on roads courtesy of the government. You get and send letters and packages dependably and cheaply because of the government. You work a forty-hour week and are eligible for overtime because of the government.
Your children are educated instead of remaining clueless (one hopes) because of public education provided by the government. The fire that threatens your home is doused courtesy of government. The national parks you vacation in, the police protection you enjoy, the national defense system defending you, the embassies oversees that help you when you travel outside the nation's borders, are all provided by government.
These and a thousand other things you take for granted daily are all done pretty competently by government. You're in lala ;and if you believe otherwise, and I doubt you will ever offer any meaningful improvement by your own suggestions, judging by what I see in your posts.”

“Time to bring back the Eisenhower tax rate of 91% on the Uber Rich 1% who now own more wealth than the entire bottom 95%. There is only one reason for that - the continued foolishness of GOP tax ciuts. Nixon cut the rate to 70%, Reagan to 50% by the end of his first term, all because of their misguided (and bought and paid for) belief in "supply side economics".
If anyone cares to check, they will see that under the 91% top tax rate, actual American production was on an upward swing the entire time and resulted in the rise of the middle class. In case the super-rich haven't noticed, there will soon be no one left in this country who can afford the products and services that give the rich their wealth, and the end result, without question, will be revolution.
Perhaps that's what they want, because they think they can keep the unwashed masses in check. But in my opinion, that is an awfully big unknown, and desperate people are capable of surprising things.
So bring back the 91% tax rate and equalize the insane pressure caused by the greed that currently afflicts us. It's simply the right thing to do for the country.”

“it is more than just tax cuts. the governing philosophy is a lie. we act as if the rules that favor and protect accumulation of wealth are not government interference or are the only legitimate functions of government. government provides services to property owners in accord with their wealth and that results in concentration of wealth. if government does nothing to mitigate those effects it is a short trip to plutocracy. government constantly acts as pump aiding those with the leverage property ownership gives to skim a percentage of all income. it is a pump sending money to the top. once there is enough concentration of wealth, a very large share of all the resources starts going to the luxuries of the top and there is less of those resources available to the bottom. if the skills of 10 carpenters and the wood of a 100 trees builds a third yacht for Rushbo this month, those resources are not available to create a row of cottages for the rest of us. if there were no government interference Rushbo could never control the wealth he currently does with government aid. we need to restore balance.”

“Free Market Capitalism? A little lesson from Thom Hartmann:
"The con's belief in "free" markets is a bit like the old Catholic Church's insistence that the Earth was at the center of the solar system...
There is no such thing as a "free" market. Markets are the creation of government.
Governments provide markets with a stable currency for financial transactions. They provide a legal infrastructure and court systems to enforce the contracts that make the market possible. They provide educated workforces through public education, and those workers show up at their places of business after traveling on public roads, rails, and airways provided by the government. Businesses that use the "free" market are protected by police and fire departments provided by the government, and they send their communications--from phone to e-mail--over lines that follow public rights of way maintained and protected by the government.
And, most important, the rules of the game of business are defined by the government. Any sports fan can tell you that without rules and referees football, baseball, basketball, and hockey would be a mess. Similarly, business without rules won't work. In a corporate kingdom--a corporatocracy--those rules are made by the businesses themselves and will inevitably screw workers and citizens. In a democracy those rules are made by We the People, both through our elected representatives and through union negotiations with the business kings/lords/CEOs."”

I also remembering reading somewhere that Wilson was visibly agitated on the way into the well
of the House. Leads me to believe this was planned. A double whammy, so to speak. To satisfy the lunatics who despise the POTUS, and secondly, to have this viciousness undermind the president's speech. It's doing just what I think he and his cronies wanted it to do. Unfortunately,
(or fortunately) they never foresaw how narrowminded they would seem to people in that other America. The ones who are living in the 21st century, not in the one where bigotry was the order
of the day. Like 1960, for example.”

Wilson made more than one outburst, which would have drawn attention to him at the key moment. Plus, there are such things as high megapixel cameras and cropping that make tin foil hat theories unnecessary. This article does not pass Occam's razor unscathed.”

“Obama, even with a majority in Both houses, is showing none of the signs of strength and power that his predecessor did. Those of us who campaigned endlessly for his election on his promise of change to move this country ahead again have seen precious little of the fulfilment of those promises.
We don't really care what the excuses are, especially given the majorities. If he doesn't come thru in a big way with good healthcare for all Americans, we will be looking for a new candidate who will. I will be looking for new senators and congress people who will. The issue will certainly not end with Obama, but unless he steps up to the plate and gets it done, the issue will certainly end Obama's continued presidency.
And those of you who think it will bode well for Republicans, guess again. Republicans are now a very marginalized group as a voting block. What you WILL see is the demise of both Repugs and Dems and the rise of a Progressive candidate with real solutions, one willing to quit throwing money down the never-ending gullet of the military industrial complex in favor of actually taking care of citizens. Speed the day.”
