“Ever heard of Venture Capital firms? You know, the companies where people go and ask for money to start up worthwhile pursuits?”
independentnomore on Dec 4, 2013 at 17:23:11
“I have no problem with crowd funding for a business venture. She was asking for people to financially support her personally so she could take time off to "write" . I was not aware that a writer is now considered a "start-up".”
“Roughshod? 23 total District Court nominees filibustered in history and 20 of those under Obama? All because a couple Republican senators want more answers about Benghazi (or so they say).
You're probably right about checks and balances, IF they were truly checks and balances and not stonewalling. When the Republicans admit that they have no issues with the nominees but refuse to allow a vote then something is broken.”
“You clearly don't bother with trying to discern details and specifics so let me be perfectly clear. He included gay parents with abusive fathers, alcholics and drug abusers. You then indicated that "what he said was pretty much on the money" (along with a gratuitous shot at gays with your "non-breeder community" comment). My reply was was specific to his (and yours by extension) lumping gay parents in with the others. I made no specific references to public schools or anything else in the article. So, while you're worried about my "atom splitting" perhaps you should take a moment and not generalize.”
“Uhhhh, no. He included the example of a child with two mommies in with several other obviously bad examples. That is NOT "covering" everyone.
It has nothing to do with whether or not a gay couple might be bad parents but, the presumption that it's a bad thing.
However, based on the rest of your post, it's clear you don't grasp the subtlety to know the difference.”

“"They don't have any parents that are functional. ... I mean I sat an hour and a half with a teacher telling me: 'This child has got serial men coming through the house, this one has two mommies, this one has abusive father whose home, this has alcoholism, this one has drug abuse.'"
That cover all sexes atom splitter. Guess what, not everyone agrees with everything we all say 100% of the time, get over it. Anyone with a brain has read the demo's on same sex parents, but again this dolt has every right to spew whatever he wants to say whether you or I agree/disagree. It's ok to disagree and say what you want, just be prepared to suffer the consequences - such as this guy, everyone will get their panties in a wad (like you and 99% of rest of the sensitive sallies here) & scream and holler.
You obviously have no interaction with educators, he is dead on right about our public schools. At our church on kids night, pretty is much juvie night for the parents to dump the kids and have no involvement, and most of the folks "dropping" them off are not the parents, usually some tired old grandparent trying to raise a bunch of kids while still working (often two jobs) and desperately trying to take care of the babies disowned by the bio parents. Wow, the Karl Rove look alike made a comment that 2 women might not be good parents.”
“Perhaps it's because you are a homophobic bigot for trying to preserve these particular public policies. After all, I'm sure there were lots of other things that were illegal in America once (blacks owning property, women voting, inter-racial marriage, divorce, etc.) that people would find insulting if you were trying to argue for keeping those laws in place.”
“By outspending her opponent more than 12-1 with outside money. It is literally people like the Koch brothers and the various ways they can funnel huge sums of untraceable money into specific races that has kept her in office.
Even with that huge fundraising advantage she won by 50.34% to 49.27% (just over 4000 votes of 356,000 cast).”
“How anyone chooses to spend their time is no one's business and if it makes you happy than it is time well spent. Your guitar time is equivalent to my hours spent watching soccer, often between teams whose names I can barely pronounce, simply because I love the game.
Her time was maybe even better spent because she did it with her children (and it reminds me of all the time I've spent with my kids watching the movies)!
I'd ask you for guitar lessons but my talent stops at kazoo!”
“You're probably right. However, I think the bigger, generic uproar here (and many of these negative comments aren't specific) have more to do with the complete removal of the LBGT provisions. Cantor's spokeswoman is quoted as saying he "is committed to ending violence among all women". Well, if he defines the word ALL the same way I and many others define it, why remove those provisions?
It's basically the same as saying that since I don't agree with the way you choose to live your life, then you shouldn't have these protections. When does ALL mean MOST?”
“Didn't Senator Graham just say a couple days ago that it's really easy to swap out a magazine in mere seconds? If so, perhaps mama should hand each kid she's protecting a couple magazines and practice reloading?
Give him a couple days and there will be some other NRA tested and pre-approved reason for why we should allow unlimited size magazines and unlimited weaponry.
For all you 2nd Amendment folks out there (that aren't otherwise swayed by the obvious reference to a "well REGULATED militia"), consider that EVERY Amendment that exists in our Constitution has additional legal language codified into law that limits, or details the extent of, the actual Amendment itself.
To me, I agree with most of the folks on the right when they say that banning the sale of these things is worthless and won't reduce any crime. However, if you ban the OWNERSHIP of such things, it will force most of the law abiding folks that own them to turn them in. Yes, there will still be some out there. Eventually, supply runs low as they are confiscated, damaged, lost, etc. Perfect solution? No. There never will be.”

“A mom (or dad) defending their kids will hopefully have 911 on the phone - why would you want to force her to reload when the criminals obviously won't have to because they don't follow the laws in existence *now*?”
WSClark on Jan 31, 2013 at 14:24:55
“The NRA sees no reason why citizens should be limited to five or even ten children assisting Mother in loading her Bushmaster. The official NRA policy is that women should have a minimum of fifteen kids to be properly prepared for a home invasion.”

“You know as well as I do that the 1.4 million gang-bangers are not turning theirs in and that just like the flow of drugs,
the flow of guns to the criminals would not be stopped, don't you?”
“Defensive handguns? You pick that one up over on Fox?”
BrianDaubachFan on Jan 31, 2013 at 22:59:02
“A "defensive handgun" generally refers to a handgun of a caliber between 9mm and .45 ACP which the owner intends to use for personal defense. I haven't heard the term in the media all that much actually, it's more of a gun class term.”
Einstein Was Right on Jan 31, 2013 at 12:33:08
“I have a CCW and YES... defensive handguns.
In the hands of an MS13 member it is a criminal weapon
facing a legal defensive weapon.”
“Impressive that you read Aramaic fluently. Not too many people do. I am aware of the Council of Nicaea. Lots of things were discussed there and the Catholic Creed is the most well known.
However, I would disagree that it was where the biblical canon was established. That is a common misconception. Now, I wasn't there of course so if you can point me to any documentation that verifies your point of view, I'd gladly consider it.”
“I read the story just fine. Are you suggesting that Moses did NOT commit genocide across the Sinai? No killing of the Midianites? No killing 3000 people in one day just for not supporting God? No commands to his people to "ravish" the women? No rebukes to his own soldiers for actually allowing people to live?
You can believe whatever you want but it's really easy to look this stuff up in any version of the Bible you care for. Of course, they usually gloss over this aspect of the story in Bible study.
As for making up facts regarding atheists, I never mentioned them at all. So, it appears that the only person making up facts and committing intellectual dishonesty is you.
