“Sounds like a bunch of excuses.

If you aren't planning on being monogamous do NOT promise someone you will be, because you will hurt them - maybe even so much so that they never recover. AND don't parade around the media like you are some family values saint if you are messing around on the side.”

“wrong wrong wrong.

The packet of data from my little website gets the SAME preference as a packet of data from Google.

mccain's bill would allow the telecoms to charge fees to protect your data (much like the mob), making the smaller isp's go out of business. Imagine huge telecoms and the power they would have. No thanks.”

“that would be great if it has anything to do with democracy. Telecoms throttling down your connection so you can't freely visit your favorite opinion sites has nothing to do with freedom or democracy.”

seppoyank replied on Nov 01, 2009 at 08:36:56

“I'm actually coming at it from a different angle.

As an individual, I can publish a website. It doesn't cost much money to do so, and my site is, from an accessibility perspective, equal to those published by the government, the wealthy and any huge corporation. This is commonly referred to as a "democratization of media." Everyone gets to communicate...spread their message (or at least more people than before). An informed population is recognized as being a necessity for a functioning democracy. The better a population is informed, the better the democracy. If corporations are allowed to diminish this and give better accessibility to those websites they choose, they are damaging our democracy by damaging the free exchange of ideas.

Media, throughout history, has been the privilege of the wealthy and elite. It is expensive. The internet has provided, for the first time, a truly democratic means of expression. It should be protected as such.

Does that make sense?”

“It's not neutral, it's unregulated. The companies are doing anything crazy out of fear that if they did, it would result in regulation on them. Our favorite maverick wants to free them to do what they want without fear from congress or the fcc. No one with a right wing or left wing ideology should want this unless you are in the telecom's pocket like a certain "maverick".

Why not call it Telecoms Own the Internet Bill.”

Jonathan Safran Foer's Controversial New Book, Eating Animals

Commented Oct 26, 2009 at 17:27:49 in Books

“It's nutritious to a degree. It's been shown time and again to increase risk of breast cancer for women. Not to mention the salted and smoked meats are bad all around. There is no reason for this over-consumption and industrial farming. It's not for eating, it's not nice for the animals, and it's not nice for the environment. It isn't at all hard to make up for the proteins and minerals in meat by other means.”

vorpalmusic replied on Oct 26, 2009 at 18:16:43

“That's right, we can make up for eating meat because of world agriculture being shipped here. Try living in a northern climate without eating meat and without bringing in food from tropical places though. I agree we need to shift toward veganism, but globally speaking, this will be more complicated than people are pretending. It will take very large structural changes to all of society, and the people that are currently the richest will lose money, which means they won't want to do it.”

playon replied on Oct 26, 2009 at 18:12:16

“It is actually pretty difficult to totally replace meat in the diet. There are nutrients in meat that are hard to find in plants. Having said that, most people could get by with eating much less of it.”

Jayne78 replied on Sep 18, 2009 at 12:00:34

“I don't feel sorry for myself either, because a lot of what's happened is the result of irreversible and confining illnesses, but a lot of what happened is the result of choices I made, too. So I don´t feel sorry for myself. The question was why women´s happiness seems to dwindle over time and I put in my 2 cents; just because I´m less happy then when I was 20, doesn´t mean I feel sorry for myself. And just because there are lots of lifelessons to be learned doesn´t mean I have to be happy about it. And I am not speaking for every women, it's just my observation from reading a number of posts.”
