Maureen Dowd: Bill Clinton Lobbied Gov. Paterson To Keep Caroline Kennedy Out Of Senate

Commented Nov 25, 2009 at 05:52:35 in Politics

“like ms. kennedy, needed a vengeful president clinton, to derail her appointment to replace hillary clinton as senator---given that besides being the kennedy she is, she was unable to show she had any polticial or social history, or the temperment--remember the badly arrogant showing she made with reporters from the nyt at an upper east side restaurant---which qualified her to be appointed senator.

one prolbem with maureen dowd is that she llikes to subsitute sharp digs and gossip for serious commentary and this jibe at bil clinton--who apparently still gets to her--is she attracted to him?--who knows?__is typical of the lapses into people magazine rag that she lapses into

let''s all remember that ms, dowd was the one who lectured us all after the gore/cheney vp debate, that cheney was he only "adult" in the race and that while rome was burning ms, dowd informed us all on why gore needed to alpha up gonads, and didn't know who he was because he altered his tie and suit for his presidential campaign, well thank yoiu maureen dowd for being such a clever commmentator in the past, we got the adult candidate, even though this daddy turned out to be the kind of daddy to the nation who abused it and the candidate who was all alpha and no brains, george bush!

i haven;t read, or given maureen dowd any serious attention since 2000 when she showed what a clown she really is.”

“this threat by the catholic church , is just the latest example of how far it has strayed .

it would rather defeat healtcare reform, than let civil lawmakers achieve it.

how many centuries has it been since the catholic church, acted like, the church of christ, bulit on the rock--petros!

on abortion, gay rights,, even divorce and contraception through the consistent voice of its popes,, the church preeches that its voice cannot bend to the evils intrinisic in the modern world.

but the same chuch that speaks and acts so stridenly against civil rights, which derive from civil liberty graned by god's grace to humans of free will with inallienable civil liberties, has sorted history of being on the worng side of social order for most of its history.

two grave examples are its support of colonialism and its history of antisemtic teachings. it blessed the events that caused the destruciton of millions of native new world lives, and it lead the spanish inquisiiton and made a concordat with the third reich of the holocaust. both lead to the destruciton of millions of jewish lives and thousands of jewish communities. and to this day adolf hitler remains an non=excommunicated roman catholic!

it is not anticatholic to give voice to the real teachings of christ and remind us that he denoucned a priestly body that lived in wealth and power, and taught us all that it is an eror to serve ceaser, for by doing so you cannot serve god!”

“am i missing something? who is this person? is she famous, a celebrity i don't know about? if so, then good for me, for being so out of it--that i still can't track the majority of names that float around for five minutes at a time in popular culture, even on the section reserved here for such people magazine style reportage.

but if not, then why does an unknown person's crime start with lead headlines beginning with her name as if we were reading that madonna, bette davis, joan crawford, queen elizabeth ll, elizabeth taylor, or any other person geneally knon to the publilc was the subject of this story!

is the need for celeb headlines so strained by the escalating media outlets, that we need to treat crime stories by unkowns with headlines as though they too were celebs.

and all this aside, anyone who mistreats an animal, should do serious prison time, and if i believed in the death penalty, which i don't--i would support it for torturing or murdering animals!

and, why it is legal for pet owners to have vets kill their pet if it is not working out, pisses in the wrong place, barks too much, scratches too much, etc.

shouldn't all the pet owners who do this, or abandon or dump pets when they have decided they don;t want them any longer, also be criminallized. and shouldn;t it be against the law for vets, to have to kill healthy animals.”

“i find seeing the united states secretary of state dressed up for a halloween as a praciticing muslim, a disturbing and unsatisfactory image and one that fails to mirror the constitution of our own united states which separates religion and state.

while it can be argued that such attire, is intended to signal respect for islamic culure, it makes our secretary of state gender identified, in a country that is sexist to the core, as defined by relgious and civil law--often 1 and the same---and fails to uphold ouir own hard won evolving culture, that women should have gender equality in all aspects of public and private life.

to see mrs, clinton defined first as a woman, and only secondly as the secretary of state of the united states, by her submission to islamic dress codes for women, is to suggest that she will not be dealt with, and this country will not be represented as well as by male secretary of state in its deallings with islamic nations.

had secretary of state clinton met with islamic clerics in pakistan, and donned a veil, as she might have to meet the pope, that would signal only a proper respect for the religious figures

to address students publicly and need to adopt attire not in keeping with the normal attire of her high office, makes our own cutlural values look varaiable and ms. clinton look as though she dressed up for a halloween party!”

and if a defendent agrees to plea bargaining and admit guilt , he has not been found guilty by a jury of his peers .in the polanski case, as documented, the district attorny warned polanksi's lawyer they the judge was going to sentence him ot prsion time, despite the plea bargain deal.
that doublecross has left a detrimental guilty plea from polanksi, the harm of which is demonstrated by your pre-conceived notions of his guilt,

whenever i hear from moralists about how a crime is so hideious as to override the consideration of law, i am reminded that moralists are but one step from the mob, and the mob is always but one step away from all our fates,o

Here is what the judge said, ""Inasmuch as the defendant has been CONVICTED of a felony sex offense involving a child under the age of 14 years..." You would think that if he hadn't actually been convicted, his lawyer - who was present - would have said as much.

And whatever the judge may have said, it wasn't a doublecross. A judge IS NOT BOUND by the agreed terms of a plea bargain. During the plea hearing Mr. Polanski was told as much and agreed to those terms.”

“I so disagree. While I understand there's a bigger picture in terms of deregulation, financial shenanigans and corporations run amok, to compare the Martha Stewart case to Bernie Madoff is disingenuous at best. Stewart used insider info to protect her portfolio, ie. putting - or keeping - money in her own pocket. Her misdeeds, arguments about scapegoating aside, did not affect anyone else. Madoff initiated a public swindle of historic proportions, an outright theft of billions. He is personally responsible for the financial ruin of thousands of Americans. Of course he's going to suffer some public acrimony and ignominy. Hardly comparable to what Stewart endured for being a highly public figure caught with her well manicured hand 'insider' the cookie jar. Madoff didn't become a national celebrity until he admitted his crimes.

So, there's a crime wave sweeping the nation, and then a serial killer turns himself in and his crimes are historic in nature. Do you really think people won't pay attention? The scary part is that if he didn't turn himself in, he' d still be out there stalking his victims because the law enforcement iss ill equipped to protect the public. Martha Stewart is not Bernie Madoff.”
