“Being a pretty liberal thinker, I like to see conservative ideas and ideologies that I disagree with discredited, but based on their merit. I'll admit, their is a certain desire to turn a bad situation into evidence for why conservative ideologies are far from beneficial, but I find a deep and burning hatred for when the right does the same thing (to a greater magnitude, in my opinion) to the left.
My point is, I agree with gino618 in the sense that this guy was a nut, a white supremacist nut, but doesn't represent an accurate sampling of the republican base, by any means. Racism, maybe. Ignorance, almost certainly. But murderous? I'm going to give my fellow Americans the benefit of the doubt on that one.
And perhaps that will be my undoing haha.”

“Atheist*
I happen to agree with you pragmaticdallasite about the latter three parts of your equation. The term "Atheist" has been given the horrible connotation of absolute certainty about the absence of "god." Anyone who has that kind of certainty is just as misguided as one who is 100% certain that god is indeed existent.
I, for one, do not "believe in god." I wouldn't be able to defend a biblical god over a greek god, or any other god for that matter. I would venture to guess that neither are any better at presenting evidence for their existence, and are thus equally nonexistent, but I would by no means be willing to bet my life, or even my PDA for that matter, on one or the other. It is simply a silly question to ask: "Does God exist?" It is unanswerable, definitively. "Maybe?" is the most complete answer. Wholly unsatisfying. I prefer to ask questions such as "How can we all live in harmony and not kill each other?" or "What's for breakfast?"”

“Agreed. I've found him to be, at least, a respectable human being. Now that he is losing and will do anything to not let it slip from him, he is, like you said, tarnishing his reputation. I think it is safe to say that not many people could avoid that, however. He's spent a lot of money trying to win, and to not win would be most infuriating.”

“I honestly don't think repubs have that much power over media polls, and certainly not any more than dems. The media at large is very liberal right now. Some people actually would rather have McCain as pres, which is alarming given the choices. The problem isn't the polls, or even the republicans, it's the american people who can't see past the deceit. The Republicans try to do what works, and sometimes, many times, that is lies and slander, and they appeal to people who will just lap it up. People should be educated.”
