Matt Birk, Former Baltimore Raven, Skips White House Visit Over Obama's Abortion Stance

Commented Jun 9, 2013 at 07:26:46 in Sports

“It's his right to stay away if he chooses, but this country has become so divided that people take things that are purely ceremonial and use them to make a political statement. His presence isn't an endorsement of anything but his Superbowl victory. Nor will his absence be anything to the majority of us who don't know or care about his position on the deeply personal issue of abortion. So, if it makes him feel better, stay away, by all means.”

“I'm almost your age.  The women you've mentioned were not known for their work on the runway. Pat Cleveland, Billie Blair, Marisa Berenson, Jerry Hall...all were great runway models.  They knew how to walk and had personality.  When you saw shots from the shows they worked, the photos were interesting because of how they moved. ”

“Well I'm 54 and the supermodels in my youth were Christie Brinkley, Cheryl Tiegs, god I can't even remember the others. And I wouldn't say they had much charisma either. Who are you thinking of?

I think Heidi Klum has got charisma, and I think Coco Rocha has a lot of charisma.”

“RIP Roger Ebert. I appreciated his film criticism and I will never forget having sat next to him at a restaurant in Chicago when he was on a date with his girlfriend (now wife), Chaz. They were both friendly and funny. My sympathies to his family and my sympathies for us now that his pen is silenced.”

Pro-Life Celebrities: Jack Nicholson, Mel Gibson And Other Stars Who Are Anti-Abortion

“I was a freshman in college in one of those enormous intro classes when a classmate not far from me collapsed. The ambulance was called and she was rushed to the hospital where she later died. The reason? A self-inflicted abortion. She was from a state where she hadn't been able to get access to counseling or an abortion. I think few are really pro-abortion; it is a major life-altering decision, but no choice is truly tragic. Do we really want to go back to the days of back alley abortions? I cannot understand why anyone would be in favor of that or be naive enough to think that some law imposed by a bunch of men (mostly) will stop women from making the choices they feel they must in their lives.”

“Sad to say I'm with you. I used to have to fly American for work and it always irked me because I much preferred BA, but American was at least okay. Some of the staff were friendly and helpful (though it might have been because they saw me so often). But I just took a flight on American and it was the worst travel experience ever, exascerbated by the downright rude staff. When the second leg of my through flight was cancelled and I had the nerve to ask why, I had never experienced such an obnoxious reply to a pretty standard question. American has definitely gone onto my do not fly list! And I think the new livery is ugly.”

Dana Perino: Female Victims Of Violence Should 'Make Better Decisions' (VIDEO)

Commented Dec 7, 2012 at 05:19:32 in Media

“Has Dana Perino ever visited a domestic violence shelter? If she had, she would meet women--from all walks of life-- who found it difficult to leave their abuser for a myriad of reasons. The issues are not as cut and dry as her quips. She might be shocked to know that statistically one of her very own friends is likely to be in an abusive relationship. She should go meet some of these women at shelters. And she should read more; talk less.”

Paul Ryan: 'It Would Take Me Too Long' To Explain Mitt Romney's Tax Plan (VIDEO)

Sarah Palin: Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan Need To 'Go Rogue,' America Needs 'Come To Jesus' Moment

Commented Sep 23, 2012 at 09:43:30 in Politics

“Wow, Sarah is right. But not for the reasons she thinks (of course, it IS Sarah Palin, after all!). This election is a "come to Jesus" moment for this country. Look at the issues that are at risk--health care, social security, defense, marriage. Look at things like Supreme Court nominations to come in the next four years (Ginsburg and Breyer are likely to go by then). Now, look at the platforms of both parties; look at the candidates. Regardless of how strongly or not one agrees with the President, those on the fence will have to have their "come to Jesus" moment with what they really want--a secretive, hard-line, mean-spirited man who stands for nothing because every position can be gamed to be on the winning side or a man who has tried to find middle ground and taken a stand for women (Lilly Ledbetter), health care, gay marriage and immigrants. Romney is where he is because he has sold himself to funders who will all want their payback and he will have to give it to them. There are serious issues that need to be sorted out and sometimes, we're going to have to compromise. We need a leader and a government with the courage to compromise when need be, not to "game" us so that they and their funders can gain more. Good point Sarah. I'm sure that's what you meant (not).”

Condoleezza Rice: U.S. Voice In World Affairs Has Been 'Muted' Under Obama

“What said it all to me today was when Condi appeared on CBS news this morning. She was asked what President Obama is doing wrong on the international front. She never answered and instead replied that it is more about what a President Romney could do. She gave no answer. This re-appearance of hers is about shoring up her legacy in a disgraced administration. Rumsfeld, Cheney and Rove have all had disparaging things to say about her as they've taken turns to reset history about them. This is her chance, so she was seduced into the spotlight. Enjoy it. No matter what you do, you, like the rest of them, will always be associated with George Bush and his failures.”
