The Villain Occupy Wall Street Has Been Waiting For

Commented Nov 17, 2011 at 10:59:02 in Business

“I just emailed the Mayor the following: I'm very disappointed in your handling of the OWS movement, especially blocking the press from covering the removal of OWS from the park. I know you're in a difficult position balancing the various interests in lower Manhattan, but some things (like freedom of speech and the press) are sacrosanct. If you excuse them away for any reason, then all reasons become valid. And that's not a slippery slope I will choose to slide down. Your precious "tax base" will decide to live in other places.”

“My name is Joe O'Connell and I want to help stop this madness. Voting has not helped. Calling and emailing my congresspeople has not helped. Blogging is not helping. I will admit that I am out of ideas, other than cutting and running to a new country. I would prefer to stay and fight the good fight. Does anyone out there have any ideas how to do so? I am literally all ears at this point.”

“I think more people are with you than you realize, Joe. And I agree with edejan - I think Americans are going to have to start removing themselves from the political machine of the two party duopoly. But until the majority of the electorate takes a true stand and throws their support behind a true and viable progressive third party, nothing's going to change.”

“It will call for a massive rethinking of every facet of how we live. An alternate economy must be created that will free us from the slavery of the debt banking system we now have. When we vote with our money by removing it from the hands of those who use it to enrich themselves at our expense, wage wars to conquer other nations for their resources or create political friction, we take down the system from the inside. When the corporatist hold over our lives has been weakened, they will no longer have the power in DC they now have.”

edejan on Jan 21, 2011 at 12:42:59

“Joe, I'm there with you. I hope someone does anwer with some concrete ideas. I favor progressive organizations but the movement has been so denigrated and sidelined, I don't think they can amass enough power. Is there a way to work outside of politics? I'm thinking in those terms but haven't come up with anything yet.”

Big Themes for 2011

Commented Jan 18, 2011 at 23:05:32 in Technology

“Great list. I'm not familiar with your work, and I'll admit I was expecting to read some trite list. But this is refreshing. I wish more people would look at a list like this and see hope for the future, even if it might take some short-term pain to reach the progress. Growing pains. A list like this makes me optimistic, not pessimistic... although I certainly get accused of being the latter for espousing opinions like this.”

“Guys, it comes down to math. Had this one bank failed, the entire universe would've exploded. I've calculated this using a very complicated financial equation. You take the number of former government employees now employed by Bank X and you multiply that by the number of current government employees that Bank X has promised will be hired after their term. The higher the result, the greater chance that Bank X failing would explode the universe. Or so we keep being told.”

“Correct. Had this one bank failed, the entire planet would've exploded, causing the universe itself to actually implode. I've calculated this using a very complicated financial equation. You take the number of former government employees now employed by Bank X and multiply it by the anticipated number of current government employees that have already been told by Bank X that they'll be hired after their term. That results in likelihood that Bank X failing would implode the universe.”

“Thank you, Ron Paul. I may not always agree with all your policies, but it's inspiring to see a person with courage left in Congress. Why are we all so afraid of the truth? The (Almost) Crash of Wall Street

Commented May 7, 2010 at 13:08:41 in Business

“It's so startlingly obvious that one idiot at a prop desk didn't cause this. I am sure traders make errors every day, like we all do, and they don't cause 1000 point market drops. It seems like the media just wants to pretend that this didn't happen. Great to see people here who care enough to ask the right questions. Hopefully our government respects us enough to answer them... but I'm not holding my breath.”

“The coup d'etat has already taken place. Multi-national corporations and their executive won. The rest of us lost. It's been building for 30 years and is now complete. Everything that's happening is a lot less confusing when one realizes this. Stop talking about reform and start talking about reclaiming. The executive branch has been infiltrated. The legislative branch has been infiltrated. And now, based on the Supreme Court ruling this year, the judiciary branch has been infiltrated. To everyone still bantering about the difference between Republicans and Democrats, you're nearly a laugh, but you're really a cry.”

Bye-Bye to Bernanke's 'Insidious Banks': End 'Too Big to Fail' in Two Easy Steps

Commented Mar 23, 2010 at 23:26:37 in Business

“Love your 2 ideas. But understand, we're past the point of discussing what we can do to turn this all around. The coup d'etat already happened. Multi-national corporations and their executives won. The average citizen lost. It's been building for decades and is now complete. Everyone please stop kidding themselves otherwise. Not that it's over, by a long stretch. But you will now have to think in terms of what we can do to take this country back, as opposed to not losing it. It already has been lost...temporarily.”
