Leadership, Obama Style, and the Looming Losses in 2010: Pretty Speeches, Compromised Values, and the Quest for the Lowest Common Denominator

“I too am completely demoralized with President Obama. I still like the guy. Hell, I worked my ass off for his election. And at the end of every prayer at the dinner table, I say: "And may God bless our President and his family." I'm upset because he's not more forceful, period. I'm 62, and I want all Americans to have health care as good as any federal worker. Progressives have worked hard and compromised enough. The current health care reform bill is a sham. Hopefully, it can be worked on and made better. Insurance companies must not be allowed to screw over middle class Americans and the poor. We need to take away their anti-trust protection; tax and penalize them. Meanwhile, the Republicans in Congress are good for nothing. Let them give up their own health insurance plans until all Americans have health care as good as theirs. And Mr. President, start keeping your promises, and get out amongst the real people more, and mean what you say!

“The majority of Americans support our new president. The Republicans got us in this hole. They need to shut up, step aside, and let President Obama do his work for the people--especially the middle class and poor. They've been part of the problem and thought nothing of including the Democrats when they were in charge and screwed us all over. I can't wait until we get a true Democratic majority in the Senate to shut them out entirely. The Wall Street Republican, fat cats are guilty of economic treason, and the Bush-McCain administration are guilty too for allowing non-regulation to continue unchecked. Republicans thought nothing of spending billions to get us where we are now--from the unnecessary Iraq war to neglecting Americans here at home. To hell with them! I hope they're out of business and favor for the next generation. They're nothing but hypocrits and obstructionists! President Obama can contact me for support anytime. Americans should be out in the streets protesting Wall Street fat cats and the Republican Party! God bless our new President!”

“Shut the republicans out all together? that might be the most ignorant comment i've ever heard. It sounds like you don't even appreciate living in a democatic country where people are aloud to disagree. Our new president doesn't even beleive that, for he's the one who put some republicans in his cabinet. Obama says he wants to do away with the bipartism in america, so if you say obama can call you up anytime for your support here is your chance. Enough with the party bashing, grow up and let's really work on improving america for the better. Is that really what people should be doing going out into the streets to protest republicans and "Wall street fat cats" (i think that might be your favorite term, wall street fat cats. did you get it from your parents, or just read it all the time on these blogs?). I think that is the exact opposite thing people should be doing and i think Obama would agree with me. Isn't there more meaningful things americas could be doing? like helping other americans in need of help? That's the problem today, everyone wants to protest, but noone actually wants to play a part in the bettering of our country.”

“Mainstream media blocks progress!

Voters ARE tired of the conversations that divide this nation. Millions more want us to move forward. Since the past two presidencies have exemplified imperfection, the American public has lost in the Clintons, G.W. Bush, John McCain, and our public institutions. In Barack Obama, we have a good and decent man running for president. He is not perfect, and says so often. Rather than being sidetracked, we need to move forward on the real problems that face us as a nation. To do this, we need to stop scapegoating Barack Obama for all the sins and bitterness of the past.

Mainstream media has failed to do its job. In fact, they’re part of the problem: favoring the viewpoint of the government and the powerful corporations. They have refused to investigate and report objectively on today’s real issues with fairness, disinterestedness, factuality, and nonpartisanship. Their specialty has been coverage of wedge issues and the delivery of covert propaganda packaged as credible news. Until mainstream media provides the American public with truth, fairness, and accuracy on the real issues of the day, their public disservice makes them irrelevant and criminal.”

“And which god does white America worship?

The attacks against Rev. Wright were unfair. They show how too much of America—including the mainstream media—is still racist and out of touch because they choose to be and have no experience of the everyday life of the black church. And the mainstream media, rather than helping the situation, is guilty of adding fuel to the flames. They say: “Ignorance is bliss.” All this blindness is no surprise to me because, as a native New Englander, I grew up with blacks and visited their churches often. Much of white America has a lot of nerve when they call Rev. Wright racist and unpatriotic. Instead, they should be outraged at their own white supremacist views. The role of true patriots—like Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Rev. Wright—has always been biblical and prophetic, preaching which: "comforts the afflicted and afflicts the comfortable."

White America still needs to come to the table and talk about all of this. “The wise shall inherit glory: but shame shall be the promotion of fools.” (Proverbs 3:35). Like the prophets of the Bible, and Jesus himself, who called out the moral failings of the powerful, Dr. King, Rev. Wright, and Senators John Edwards and Barack Obama have all taken America to task—and rightly so—for its racism and poverty. Rather than question how black Americans worship, white America better question its own form of worship, and to which god.”

“Tell Hiliary where to get off!

Republicans do all they can to get Hiliary Clinton nominated and to take Barack Obama out. The North Carolina Republican Party will run a Willie Horton-type ad against Barack Obama because that’s the game plan. John McCain and the National Republican Party can denouce and implore all they want; it's never enough: “It distracts Republicans, degrades our civics, and seeks to divide the American people,” and this racist ad will run just once. Millions of smart voters figured out the old games played by McCain and Clinton. “Good cop-bad cop,” or hot-cold vs. bitter-sweet? Clinton hasn’t denounced the ad as more of the same because SHE IS more of the same! Both McCain and Clinton use the same playbook.

On the Democratic side, Hiliary Clinton doesn’t have a chance of winning the nomination statistically. Yet she’ll waste our time playing the waiting game, and ruin the Democratic Party, in the process. For me, and millions of disgruntled, bitter Democrats, this is more like “the crying game!” The super Superdelegates need to step in and tell Hiliary where to go! Why should it become a game of The Mean Machine vs. Retribution? The Democratic Party, and American public, loses. WE should not have to wait for HER clock to run out! She and the Democratic Party are taking up valuable time by not allowing Barack Obama to build up the constituencies now favoring her. This we cannot forgive!”

“Old prejudices thrive!

Barack Obama is a phenomenal candidate for president. Hiliary Clinton and John McCain aren't. Like vultures in a feeding frenzy, they see their opening. For the next week, they will feed on the fears and hurt feelings of white America before the next primary.

Out of context and out of line, Clinton and McCain, with help from surrogates, will make their case of old politics. They will exemplify white American prejudices and divide the People as always. I doubt Senators Clinton or McCain watched the MSNBC documentary, "Meeting David Wilson," hosted by Brian Williams. Were they too busy reinforcing White American prejudices?

Black Americans are ready to have a conversation with White Americans about race. Until now, the conversation has been one-sided in Black American homes and churches, ever since white America refused them membership in their churches. Barack Obama has attempted to tell us the truth and move the conversation forward in his address, A More Perfect Union. White America needs to come to the table and start talking about White Supremacy in America. It still exists. This is why we still have two Americas—one rich and one poor—in essentials, education, and justice.

Barack Obama, of the current candidates, has the 21st century mindset to solve 21st century problems. Senators Clinton and McCain don’t, and need to go feed on themselves, and let the rest of us turn the page.”

“I disagree with your statements. The day when people can see someone for who they are and not what color they are, then we as Americans can say we are succeeding. I do not think Obama is the person who can do that. Watching the video from the church Obama goes to was very enlightening but very scary to see what is being discussed in his church. Yes I know people say that was a few times, but the congregation were really getting into his speech so you have to wonder how many times did he speak this way. There is no way I would ever stay in a church listening to someone like his pastor. Then you hear comments made from Obama and his wife and you really have to wonder what does he really feel. No matter how we agree/disagree with what is going on we all should be proud that we are Americans.”

It's 3 a.m. and Hillary's Dreaming

“Confessions of an Obama supporter!

The truth is Hiliary Clinton won big in Ohio, plus she also won Texas and Rhode Island! The ground hog says we have seven more weeks of primary season. So now, Obama people need to get over these most recent Clinton wins; yet at the same time, pick up on how she won. Undoubtedly, a majority of last-minute, “undecided voters” went for Hiliary Clinton because of her “down and dirty” tactics–including her play of the fear card when it came to our national security—all of which tapped into a responsive chord, and this gotcha process will only get worse. Sadly, with human nature being what it is, people are always going to be struck by fear. Although Barack Obama knows this all too well, he must proceed with caution, never capitalizing on this fear, but ever so stealthily moving towards knocking it out of the American psyche.

If today, I’m a little down, know that I never ever feel out! If I were on the inside of the Obama Campaign Headquarters, I would advise: Pull back and recharge, ask and answer the hard questions as to how Hilary won, and re-think the best ways to deliver upcoming responses and strategies. This is Hiliary Clinton and John McCain’s day, so let them have their day! Let Hiliary visit all the early-morning talk shows she wants to bask in her winning moment, and let John McCain dine with the President then stand beside him for all it’s worth, a public endorsement of incompetence, failed policies and failed politics—with all the trappings of the Presidency—in a Rose Garden staged moment. Again, it’s their day!

Then look out! “The sun will come up tomorrow” on a new day for Obama and the People! Once again, recount the delegates, make some specific announcements, and—without any spin—lead the charge to prove to the American people that neither John McCain nor Hiliary Clinton will be, “A President who stands up for what’s right.” --Hiliary Clinton, OH speech - March 4, 2008 Supply us with your specifics on the meat-and-potato, pocket-book issues and solutions, and supply us with more specific truths about McCain and Hiliary. Force the spotlight back on them. Congratulations, John McCain and Hiliary as you take pride in your many successes. “My friends, oh what platitudes we weave when first we practice to deceive…” Let us not stand too close to goalposts as, “This too shall pass!”

What lies ahead! In American politics, it’s is a “road not taken,” and a very tricky one indeed for Barack Obama. Up against Hiliary Clinton, the way forward is literally, “the most dangerous game.” I believe Barack Obama takes the high road, “the one less traveled by, and this will make all the difference.” This morning, I’m also comforted in the fact that Americans never reelect presidents to third terms in a recession. Also, even though the longer Hiliary Clinton’s in the race of her life she helps Republicans do their dirty work on Barack Obama, I’m very hopeful he will successfully manage to continue to define this Bush-McCain-Clinton opposition for what they truly are; while, at the same time, defining himself in the best possible light. He’s such a bright phenomenon; he can do it! Then alas, his bet with the American people will pay off as—more and more—they see the Bush-McCain-Clinton “attacks and distortions that try to distract us from the issues that matter to people’s lives, the stunts and the tactics that ask us to fear instead of hope.” –Barack Obama, TX speech – March 4, 2008 “What goes around will come around.” as the You Tube Generation says no to the Feeding Tube Generation.”
