“Child? He just listed a very large number of publications with a considerable bias to the right (you know, despite the fact that everyone in the media are raving communists).
That's the most quantitative response imaginable to this ridiculous article.”

“Not really. All it is is a listing of news outlets owned by News Corporation.
Despite Rahm's talking points, all of those publications/outlets have thousands of individuals and tens of thousands of news reports. To call them uniformly conservative or even similar is simply ridiculous.
Now, thanks for the list - but maybe focus on the news reports/articles instead.”

The Judgment on Vaccines Is In???
Commented Apr 25, 2009 at 14:19:59 in Living
“The conflict of interest within the CDC is a very serious matter, and these studies need to be taken more seriously. On the other hand, there are several problems with Mr. Carrey's argument:
1) The link he posted for "proof" of a correlation is to an advocacy site that has clearly already assumed that vaccines cause autism, equally without evidence. Despite the fact that there is a (somewhat amateurish) graph on the front page, there is nothing careful or scientific about the claims presented.
2) Since 1983, vaccination rates have not increased in direct proportion to new cases of autism spectrum disorders. How, then, can autism spectrum disorders be singularly tied to vaccination?
3) This post and MOST posts advocating a relationship between ASDs and vaccination make absolutely no recognition of the fact that ASDs are better understood now, that Aspergers, though it "existed", was almost NEVER diagnosed in the 1980s or 1990s. ASDs are only beginning to be understood, and the range of what may be considered an ASD has widened dramatically. My brother has Asperger's syndrome, but I can guarantee you that he would have been diagnosed with attention deficit disorder in 1995, and with nothing at all in 1985. Consider that before jumping to outrageous conclusions that ignore both causation AND correlation.”

“Actually it is a clear statement about the true character of the elites that Bush serves. They could care less about the impact that their "drunken" carousing has on our economy. They go off on their binge drinking oblivious to the damage they inflict on the country as a whole, much as an abusive alcoholic goes about inflicting pain and suffering on his family. And then of course, like the dry drunk that he is, Bush jokes about it.”

“Hillary hasn't won the popular vote, and anyone stupid enough and so easily misled to eat that tripe doesn't deserve to participate in the system.
Hillary wins the popular vote IF:
* You don't count the vote tallies out of several caucus states "just because". This includes Texas, which had huge caucus turnout.
AND
* You don't allot any of the Michigan uncommitted votes to Obama, against all reason.
How smart is that?
If Hillary can't beat Obama, who you think is so unviable, how the hell is she going to beat McCain? You're drinking the Kool-Aid, kid.”

You think it's anti-depressant medication that's causing these vets to attempt suicide? You know, not their being forced to kill other human beings? And to risk death, and even see their friends die, gruesomely, for no goddamned reason?
Get out of the fucking health food store and into the real world. Your words are an insult to the capabilities of the human mind. Go read a book that wasn't published by a money-grubbing nutritionist.
There is real science behind the study of nutrition, and the shit you're reading isn't representing it.”

“I don't think this was an explosive story, nor was it meant to be. The headline is a little misleading when compared to its content, which is only critical in the softest sense. I'm not sure it was a good move on Obama's part either: it wasn't a gaffe by any standards, but I think it could have been said more carefully and accurately.”

Vera's Cub: Why Some Mothers Eat Their Young
Commented Jan 15, 2008 at 06:38:52 in Living
“We have come to believe that our behaviors, because we classify them as psychological, are somehow not the products of the same evolutionary process that has produced the "psychology" of the bear. Thought is not unique to humanity, and there are solid evolutionary reasons for our behaviors--even, or maybe especially those that are considered aberrant.
Other than the article being cutesy (appropriate, given that it is about baby bears), and your taking it unreasonably seriously (golly, stop the anthropomorphisms!), I can't see anything too wrong with a close comparison of human and polar bear post-natal behavior. But hey, whatever, people have to be whiny and dramatic in HuffPost comments.”
