“Logically speaking, people WERE quite a bit different in biblical times. Mainly they were extremely superstitious, among other things.

Jesus is quite clear why he spoke in parables because he tells us why: To hide the kingdom of heaven from non-believers, and to confuse people. (Matt 13: 10-13)

Jesus also would have said anything about becoming "Christian" because obviously this terminology would only exist after his death. He does however say that to be "saved" one must accept Him and into their heart and ask for His forgiveness. (many citations) This would imply that they would need to follow his teachings and accept his divinity, which would basically mean Christians.

Never heard of Jesus hinting at reincarnation.”

Seriously if the Democrats didn't have a 25-30 point lead on Bush by election day, that is their fault, not Ralph's. Besides, according to Jim Hightower, over 300,000 registered Democrats in Florida voted for Bush in 2000. Nader, on the other hand, got less than 100,000 total votes Florida. How was it Ralph's fault that Gore couldn't even get many in his own party to support him?”

“No, I think what matters is that the parents are committed to each other REGARDLESS of whether or not a court of law says so. Sure making that commitment in writing is a nice gesture. But it's hardly THE thing that is binding.

I've known couples who have been together for ages and have never gotten married. One couple says it's because they get better tax refunds for staying "single."

It took me and my husband 7 years until we finally tied the knot - and it was mostly because we couldn't afford a wedding for a long time and wanted a big party. But our relationship would have stayed strong with or without a marriage certificate.

Meanwhile I've also know couples who used marriage as a tool. One marriage was between 2 good friends. One of whom was going to leave to Japan for 2 years to teach English. The other wanted to go with him just for fun. So they got married so she get a workers visa. When they got back they got divorced. Seeing as how the guy was gay, it wasn't like marriage meant much to him because he wouldn't be able to marry who he was really in love with anyway.

So I think the hang up about marriage is a little silly. People put a lot of emphasis on it, but that's not really what keeps people together. People stay together because they want to. And that's what really matters imho.”

“Wrong! It's clearly religion of which Communism is a form, and not people. Communism gives them no choice. And if the Christians here had their way, then they'd be tearing down the Mosques. Anything that demands you adhere to it's beliefs, writings, past leaders/Prophets, can be classed as a religion. Only "true" democracy which allows anyone to believe as they wish (including the choice to NOT believe) without fear of persecution is the hope for future mankind. Sadly we are allowing religion to take over our Govt AGAINST the will of our founding fathers. Most of whom by the way were Deist's. They knew what it meant to be ruled by the fanaticism of religious zealots.”
