“Okay so the government should stop helping your town/city/community pay for fire, teachers, police, water, roads, pipes, bridges, etc.

What you have to realize is that the government is the people. As a Republican once said that there was a government of the people, for the people, by the people, not a government of the corporation, by the corporation, for the corporation. As you can see removing all of those pesky rules and regs from the financial industry worked out real well. Also the nonregulation of trillion dollar credit default swaps and derivatives have worked so well that the banks got rich off the back of people and companies by providing services that no one could understand. So if you want to go back to the days of disease dysentery and other unpleasantness then yes government should just roll over and die.”

“Retiring the debt isn't needed right now as if there are no jobs then we won't be able to retire any debts anytime soon. As people are saying right now deficits don't matter right now.

I want you to imagine that you're out of a job right now and have been searching for more than a year. What would be more important to you right now Having a job or retiring debt?”

“Warren Buffet said that he pays less taxes as a percentage than his secretary. So to say that they pay 70% when they have so many loopholes that they can get away with paying less than the going rate is wrong and the top tax rate is more like 36%.”

“If this precedent of restricting corporate speech is overturned then we will have taken a big step towards a government of the corporation for the corporation by the corporation that will not have the best interests of the people they will rule at heart as the corporation is only looking out for the right to make as much money as they can.”

“No they couldn't as then they would be for-profit centers of business and if you are reading the news these days you wouldn't want essential services being run by a for profit company. If the fire department was for profit then you would have to pay more for it than you would have in taxes and what would happen if the fire department were to suddenly go into the red for a couple of months and closed down? We already had for profit fire departments at the turn of the century and it wasn't a good experience as the fire departments would show up and battle it out over who would put the fire out first while leaving the fire to burn the building down and maybe the whole block.

What if the water department was a for profit business and it went out of business because it couldn't make a profit? If that happened in New York City then millions of people would die of thirst and disease because there would be no one there to run the pumps and filters.”

“Or how about the way that Switzerland runs its health care system. They still have the insurers but they all are non-profit and can't throw you off the rolls for anything that you have, have had or are going to have and they have no caps and no limits on the care that you receive. Health care should never be a for profit industry as it should be a right that any citizen should have no matter their socioeconomic status. If you watch Sicko bu Michael Moore you will learn that the HMOs were set up by Nixon so that you would have less care for more money.”
