“I still don't think it was just a missed call. Sorry if this is starting to bore you. Henry should have stopped the play and told the ref what happened. He let it run acting like nothing that's cheating.

OK, perhaps it's not worth a replay; we aren't talking about anyone getting eliminated that would really do anything with their berth.

But, Henry should be disqualified from play for this WC or something. That's just over the top.

At least when Maradona did his thing, he followed it up with possibly the most beautiful individual efforts ever seen in football.

Henry did nothing to redeem himself, and he had the chance to come clean.

He'll always be a cheat, like Zidane will always be a ruffian.”

“What about football?

The Irish football body pointed to a precedent: a FIFA decision in 2005 to invalidate the result of a World Cup qualification match between Ukbekistan and Bahrain on the basis of "a technical error by the referee of the match".

“No sport? Really?”

TonyOnly replied on Nov 23, 2009 at 12:57:19

“I stand corrected. But could it be that FIFA realizes now, the replay in 2005 only compounded the issue and they don't want repeat the same mistake now. It's up to the game officials to resolve violations by players, during the game. The reason you won't see American pro sports leagues replaying entire games because an official missed a call ( and that's all this is) is because it opens a whole new can of worms and damages the credibilty of the game for all the fans of whichever team is on the losing end of the decision tio replay. There's technology available now to catch these mistakes. If FIFA had been using it, this controversy wouldn't have happened.”

TonyOnly replied on Nov 21, 2009 at 20:39:59

“By setting this precedent, you'd be setting it up so a country could demand a result be invalidated every time a player's hand touched a ball and the officials didn't see it.”

“Really. Sports is entertainment. They use rule books, not law books.”

Why the Palin "Hate Affair" Will Backfire

“Siskind wrote about the fact that you gauchistes go sexist when you oppose a woman, whether she be from your party or the opposition.

That is independent of policy, yes. You can read, apparently. Now try to catch up with the rest of the conversation, Cicero.”

“And those people calling themselves 'Democrats' oppose much of what Obama's doing, trying to do, and failing to do.”

LeftRight replied on Nov 25, 2009 at 22:48:27

“No, they oppose HOW he's going about it, they wish that he was going actually to the left, rather than with the "Washington centrist" approach, which is ACTUALLY a rightwing approach!”

snarkopolitan replied on Nov 21, 2009 at 14:05:57

“Two Dems who are working as hard for healthcare as anyone in the Obama administration are Hillary and Bill Clinton. What is really insulting is the way Siskind went seamlessly from supporting Hillary to supporting the diametric opposite, the unschooled, undisciplined, Sarah Palin, an anti-feminist who opposes everything Hillary ever fought for whether working for the Children's Defense Fund or as a Senator---a centrist Dem senator.

The silly remarks about Hillary's appearance were no worse than comments at the New Agenda website about Nancy Pelosi's appearance right now. I haven't even gone to No Quarter, the racist PUMA blog (originators of the Whitey Tape smear against Michelle Obama) where Siskind cross-posts and participates, to see what sexist drivel they have to say about Pelosi.

Hillary as president would have been exactly where Obama is now: trying to right a nation nearly destroyed by the same policies Palin espouses. You and Siskind both demonstrate that your pique isn't about policy.”
