“Actually i blame "progressives' From what I can see we don't have many real "liberals" with us any more. We are talking about the kind of mindest that strips a restaurant table of its salt shakers because the central planners know what is best. and want to ban the word "bossy" for some non existant self esteem issue They throw out concepts like "social justice" to cover their plans to equally distribute poverty (to all except the central planners themselves) Keeping us divided on gender and racial and social class lines where our particular subset can be portrayed as a victim needing their help to receive justice is their ticket to power.”
“"I do not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it."
Voltaire THIS at one time was the prime belief of the classic "liberal" The "classic liberal" has been replaced by the "classic progressive" that believes in a centrally planned and closely regulated social order where politically correct speech codes are a component of keeping the population in check. The ACLU went to court to fight for the the KKK and the American Nazi Party and defend their right to march. We have come a long way from those days. What was said in that clandestinely recorded phone conversation was despicable, but when we begin to criminalize thoughts, we enter a very dangerous place as a society. We've had a few overly sensationalized examples of people that are out of step with society. Neither had any effect on any individuals, and in no way indicate we have a society brimming with racism, and to dwell on these isolated incidents does more harm than good.”

“Is it your impression that the First Amendment requires silence in the face of evil and toxic speech? Do you believe the First Amendment requires commercial entities to continue to associate with, financially contribute to and support someone who has said or done something they feel is incompatible with their corporate image? There is no similarity or point in common between defending a person's right to speak, and condoning, supporting or promoting that speech, or the person who is speaking.
By defending the KKK's right to assemble and to speak, the ACLU in no way endorsed the principles, aims or utterances of the KKK.
The 1st amendment stands for the principle that you can say whatever you want, no matter ow objectionable, and for the principle that I can decry what you said, refuse to associate with you, and refuse to support you. It does not stand for the principle that everyone must sit around passively in the face of toxic speech and pretend nothing was said, or that what was said carries no meaning or implication.”

There is some merit to your your line of reasoning, except you spoil your whole premiss by blaming Liberals!
“Thank you so much for correcting my spelling. The world is such a better place with anal people around to keep us in our place. Our president has called for a domestic force armed and financed to the level of the miitary. The ONLY APC's on the scene were those of the various federal agencies, The only SWAT teams were also government officers, and fully automatic weapons were all in the hands of our "public servants" If fis IS indeed "our government" it is a little troubling when they run a military operation against its own citizens. This was an extrem over reaction by the federal government and it looks very much like it was a warning that we can expect this sort of response in the future. There are two sides to an issue. How much do you know about the bully tactics of the fedeal agencies like the EPA, BLM, Forrest Service, and Army Corps of Engineers? Do you know about the water being shut off in California that is destroying the farmers done supposedly to enhance a non endangered fish? We have a federal government that has been ratcheting up the control over every aspect of existance while creating the illusion thet are fighting for "social justice" The world has seen this sort of thing before, and it never turns out well.”
“Wells Fargo does not send a SWAT team backed up with armoured personel carriers and a couple hundred helmeted strom troopers brandishing fully automatic weapons because you missed some mortgage payments, and even after forclosure it is done with a sherrifs deputy with a clip board. Until ALL the steps are taken the government has over reached its authority, Bundy disputed the charges and we don't know how he would have reacted if all legal remedies had been exauhsted, but it is on the government to go the full process. It should be troubling to EVERYONE to see that virtually ALL federal agencies are now paramilitary organizations. Everything from the FDA to EPA to the IRS to the BLM has their own SWAT teams and considering that the constitution only establishes TWO "federal crimes" (counterfiting and treason) that is disturbing. When you look at what t=our government was prepared to use on its own citizens it might be that what you saw was what Obama had in mind when he said this:::::"We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we've set," Obama said. "We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded."Senator Barack Obama campaigning for president 2008 Even if you trust Obama with that power t, the door is open for it to fall into the hands of somone you may NOT trust.”
“::::"We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we've set," Obama said. "We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded."Senator Barack Obama campaigning for president 2008 President Obama threatened to use force of arms against the American people even before he was elected, and then set out to militarise every federal agency from the IRS to the FDA. BLM does NOT need an armoured personell carrier to collect a debt and certainly doesn't need its own SWAT team. I have my "facts' just fine as well as an understanding of the constitution”
“John, the one that counts is a lean on the property which is a prelude to losing that property Until THAT step is taken it's just an overdue bill and you don't send armoured vehicles and SWAT teams to collect a debt. This is from Barack Obama::::"We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we've set," Obama said. "We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded."Senator Barack Obama campaigning for president 2008 When you have this kind of firepower sent to dispute a bill, it is a little troubling if you haven;'t exhausted all traditional avenues first.”
“the issue was not the assessment of grazing fees that Bundy disputes. The issue was the bully tactics of armed and militarized domestic police agencies showing up in armoured vehicles with automatic weapons SWAT teams and snarling police dogs to collect a debt. There were judicial remedies that should have been exajusted long before an army decended on this ranch. A judgement was decreed but the government skipped the next step in the process which would be a lean placed on the property. If a judgement is declared in favor of the governemtn at THAT point, then an eviction is undertaken, and usually it is accomplshed with fewer than the several hundred the government sent in this case.”

“Oh, twenty years and multiple legal orders ignored not enough for you?”
“Nodbody support Bundy because he was a "racist" they supported him in resisting the use of milatarized police forces to collect a civil debt that should have been resolved by placing a lean on the property and letting it work through the courts. What Mahr is saying is the same thing as allowing a prostitute to be raped at gunpoint with no right to self defense because of her profession. The bully tactics and completely out of proportion action by the federal agencies has NOTHING to do with Bundy's racial comments.”
arx754 on Apr 28, 2014 at 02:23:23
“What's a "militarized police force"? You mean one that arms itself at least to the level of the bad guys? Gee, sounds like common sense to me. Would be suicide not to.
What's a "civil debt"? Is that as opposed to a "criminal debt"? What's a "criminal debt"?
And, so, you suggest they put a lien (it's spelled lien, not lean) on the property and "let it work through the courts"? You mean like let the courts issue a judgment on the matter, right? Well, guess what? The courts did. They issued a judgement authorizing seizure of the property. Government officers went out there, with the court order, to seize the property. The "militarized police force" were there to protect the officers making the seizure.
I don't get your prostitute analogy at all. It makes no sense. It has no relevance to the Bundy case.
How about Bundy just obey the law over these past 20 years? How about when the courts (after 20 YEARS of him doing this) issued the judgment authoring the seizure of his property, he lets them seize it instead of contacting all his buddies who show up, armed to the teeth, saying they'll kill the officers if they make the seizure?”
peterhenry on Apr 27, 2014 at 21:36:55
“OK, there was a debt. With fees, interest, court costs, it reached the amount it is. The government then placed a lien on his property (cows). The court then let the government foreclose on the lien, issuing a judgement allowing them to take the cows and sell them.
Not much different then what happens if you stop making mortgage payments. Just different players.”

“Wrong, Bundy threaten to use armed insurgency before the feds showed up. The feds backed off later after the militia groups put women and children in front of them. Get your facts right before you post. Another note, it was the "federal government" wrote the Constitution that Bundy hates.”
“When ever it is impossible to defend your position the best course of action is to deflect away from the issue. Obama is a rank amature, in way over his head that has surrounded himself with like minded "progressive" zealots with no concept of how to function in the world outside of their accademic laboratories. palin is NOT the president but the one we have is a failure.”
“Not that I'm a H U G E supporter of the republican party, having as much contempt for 80% of them as I do for the "progressive democrats" it was completely predictable that g media would omit the democrat party affiliation for the convicted felon, when we KNOW if he had been a republican, it would have been mentioned 3 times in the first paragraph. I KNOW I'm not the first to mention this, but isn't about time you "members of the press" notice that we see what you're doing, and just maybe start reporting rather than cheering for one party?”
“He's the equivilent of a "shock jock", and a lot less offensive that Bill Mahr or the antics that are displayed in the San Fransisco Gat Pride parade. "progressives" are 'tollerant' of their own being obnoxious so perhaps they should be a little more tollerant of others. He is not doing an ideal job of getting his message accross but it's nothing to get huffy about.”
“Hasn't the administration been collecting taxes 4years beore the outlays kicked in? I'm sure that the medical insurance costs HAVE gone up for the employees already covered. ANYTHING that helps make the sleeping masses wake up to the horrible (un) ACA is beneficial.”
“:Lowel Weiker, a former ."maverick" republican who was elected as the candidate of "A Connecticut Party" (a third party of his own creation) was the governor that ran on a "no income tax" platform. His memorable quote was "imposing an income tax would be like throwing gasoline on a fire" and then , like all "progressives" quickly went off on the intended course as soon as the inauguration cake was cut. He chose as his chief of staff, the man who had drafted the income tax proposal almost a year earlier, and then announced he had no alternative but to propose an income tax. When you live in a state with the third highest payout for welfare payments, and see absolutely NO attempt to curb fraud, most sane people WOULD have some objection. Conservatives are NOT the heartless freaks that the lap fog "progressive" media paints us to be. You can take 100 random conservatives and a like amount of "progressives" and compare their volunteerism and charitable work and find they eclipse the "progressives" while helping one on one, within the community and family rather than expecting the "collective to redistribute the wealth (minus75% administrative costs)”

“I was not speaking about Gov. Wikher. Who was a MAIN line republican when was elected to the US House of Representitives, and the US Senate. Until eeactionary right wing CT republicans. recruited Prescott Bush Jr. to challenge him at the state convention, and supported Joe Lieberman in a general election, that moved the republican party away from its historic base in the state. These RINOs, now control the republican party in the state leading to foolish nominations of people like the tax avoider Linda McMann for elective office. The Gov. I was talking about was Tom Meskill. But you provably do not know enough Connecticut history to remember him.The reason that welfare payouts is because of the failure of the state to provide education, job services, and seek business location in the state. Under the years of republican administrations, no attempt was made to help transform the state's reliance on heavy manufactering to high teck industry is also a cause of the welfare rates.
There have been a great effort made by both the state and federal governments in the last 3 years to cut the fraud which was rampant in CT.
No sane person would believe a post like yours which contains so many errors, which a sane person would believe are intentional. Perhaps you might want to stop repeating the propaganda from the reactionaries RINOs, and start look at the cause of the problem. BTW is the former gov out of jail yet?”
“Cutting taxes works EVERY time to stimulate growth THAT is just about as old as life itself too. I don't mind paying my "fair share" I just object to pols using MY wealth to bribe others to vote for them, and showing absolutly NO interest in weeding out waste fraud and abuse. When you factor in taxes and fees paid to government at ALL levels, the outlay can be as high as 60% of their income for those pulling the wagon, and mush less than 0% (when you count all the benefits they GET from government) to those in the safety hammock.”

“Pamela, i don't know your age, but I was around when they gave us the state income tax. We were promised that it would give us stability and we would NEVER experience economic uncertainty. As a means to keep the politician "honest" we were given a constitutionally mandated "spending cap and a ballanced budget requirement . When the tax was instituted, the 1991-92 Ct state budget was $7.9 Billion. The current 2 year budget is $37.6 billion . the constitutionally mandated "spending cap" has been blown through with budget gimmicks in virtually EVERY budget since 1991, and the GAAP accounting that Malloy promised in his election bid has been shown to be a meaningless joke. We have a governor that will bribe company $$$millions to make meaningless moves from one CT town (causing grand list losses for THAT town) just to move to another CT municipality, or go into strange deals like the Jackson Lab deal with no benefit and ALL the risk going to the taxpayers. He throws $300,000,000 on a bussway that nobody wants and can't even be properly plowed in winter. The "quality of life" is slipping but we sure are paying for it. You will also find that the supposed "surplus is just another illusion, and they will once again violate the state constitution when they use gimmicks to "balance' the budget.”
“Pamela, the taxes were NOT on "income" they were a wide spectrum of goods and servies. Things like re-instating the sales tax on clothing purchases over $50, sales taxes on services previously exempt, increases in hunting and fishing licences, ect ect. Maloy has been an abysmal governor, and he's jockying for a federal position.”

“Well, if we didn't have such a deficite left by last Republican Governor, we wouldn't had to have raised these things....I don't mind paying more sales tax on clothing, nothing I buy is under $50 anyway, I'd rather not run a deficite. Not going in for any cosmetic surgery or caps on my teeth thank you, those that have that done can afford to pay more. And my husband, an avid fisherman/hunter doesn't mind paying more for his licences if it means preserving the Sound and open land. If you want services and a decent quality of life, you have to pay for it.....”

Two of the three are "sacutuary cities, and the third is one in all but an official declaration.”
“My governor Dannel ("don't call me Dan") Malloy claims that Jindal's statement was the most insane thing he had ever heard. Malloy ran with the standing state comptroller as his Lt gov running mate. He declared that he would NOT raise taxes if elected, and as soon as the election was over, he claimed total ignorance of the financial condition of the state (with the outgoing comptroller standing next to him), and proceeded to give us the largest round of tax increases in history. He THEN declared that "Connecticut is open for business". Seeing that two years later, Ct is 50th in job creation 2nd in citizen flight, and third highest in welfare payments to the safety hammock leisure class. I think HIS "open for business" is far more insane than ANYTHING Jindal said.”

Does Connecticut let companies operate tax free like Texas? You would love Texas because we have a great economy and only the Rich are benefiting from it because we are a Right to Work State so we have low wages.
Stop the attack on the Middle Class and you wouldn't have to worry about people coming to your state because it treats it's citizens well.”

Your comment about the "saftey hammock leisure class" explains all anyone needs to know about your political motivation. Like so many people on the reactionary right, you will say/do anything without concerns for the truth. Having lived in New Britain, I remeber that it was under a republican governor that the industries moved out of that city. I also remember that it was a republican governor who said there would never be a state income tax, and then refused to veto the law creating one. I am also aware that the bedroom communities were populated with tax avoiders from New York state, and if they have moved else where it is because they have found another state where they could avoid paying their fair share.”
