“Yes. The guy misuses the language like a high school freshman and throws in phony references to ancient Rome and you ate it up. Doesn't that make your judgement a little suspect? I mean if you think Professor Irwin Cory here is smart, your IQ must be lower than his. Just logical. Gibberish is gibberish. You better get to know it when you see it. :)”

“I remember when that douch "W" was re-elected and he made the statement "I've been given political capital with my re-election and I'm going to spend it!" Well, last time I checked, Obama was re-elected. The American public rejected Romney's trickle down economics theory and voted to re-elect Obama because they know the rich can't be trusted. They call themselves the "job creators" but the only jobs they create are for Indian and Chinese workers. So hold tight Obama! Screw those rich CEO's who won't pay taxes. This country can't keep solvent unless the rich pay their share!! Frankly, I think the so-called fiscal cliff would be a good solution to the number one problem this country faces- THE DEFICIT. I don't want my kids to have to face another Great Depression like we almost did in 2008!”

juststeve35 on Dec 30, 2012 at 20:30:49

“So then you know the math...

and you know that the tax the rich plan, while a nice baby step, won't put a noticeable dent in THE DEFICIT.

Congress has already approved another defense budget that exceeds what the Sec Def had requested!!

We need real cuts to everything including defense and the so-called entitlements, with revenue generation... and we need it large enough to afford to let the government slide a little money back to the consumers as well.

The American people certainly rejected Romney, but not because of his views... He was just too darn slimy to trust with the Presidency, and the ONLY other choice was Obama.

This was not an election about Obama's principals and ideas versus Romney's... Face it, Obama should have body slammed the toad, yet he didn't even garner 51% of the Popular Vote!”

“Well, there were years when guitars did little to nothing appreciation wise. From the 1970's to the end of the 80's guitars were still affordable. Then they went nuts during the 1990's and later but peaked about ten years ago. The prices dropped dramatically for a while but seem semi-stable now. I still think they are priced about 5 times what they should be. Wish I had bought Microsoft in 1985 instead of guitars!!”

“Well, at 67, I've got you beat a bit. Fender has certainly made a name for themselves since the fifties! The old Fenders and Gibsons were strategic investments when you look at their prices now but so were others. My hubby bought a 12-string Martin the year we were married ('66) for $350. I nearly killed him, as times were bad then. Sure wish I had that guitar now! He's passed now but those old guitars hold a ton of memories.”

“Gibson can't go around Federal law to sneak in regulated hardwood. Simple as that. That whole thing about the Lacey Act has become a hot-button referendum by the Republicans on big government squelching corporate entrepreneurship. Yeah, Federal agents raided Gibson with guns drawn. So what? Should they have asked permission to conduct the raid?? NPR's reporting on the incident doesn't mean they took a stand on it. There was no editorial following the report. If you believe the government is going to come to your house and try to confiscate the Brazilian rosewood guitar you bought in high school, you need to be on Prozac and stop watching Fox News!!!”

“Why?? It isn't any better than any electric guitar hanging at your local music store. It doesn't sound better, certainly doesn't play better and looks the same as the re-issue copy that costs 100th the price of the "vintage" version. There are millions of guitars sitting in closets all over the country. That must really frost your cookies. I'm not trying to be contrarian, I just can't stand it when a lie gets repeatedly told until people start to believe it. Electric solid body guitars don't have hand-carved tops. They DON'T EVEN MAKE A SOUND ABOVE A WHISPER. There is absolutely nothing about them that makes them any better than any new guitar except the fact that they sure look cool when they are old and original. But don't try to convince me they are "better". I operated a vintage guitar store in the 70's and 80's. I owned and sold thousands of vintage guitars, probably before you were born. A great player doesn't sound any better or play any better on a vintage guitar. Yeah, I'd love to tool around town in a 1932 Ford because it looks so cool but I'd never attempt to drive it across the United Sates! It would never make it! Glorification of these old guitars like they are somehow special is stupid. They aren't. I know better.”

“Gibson made a Les Paul with low impedance pickups as well as a solid body L5-S with low impedance pickups. You could buy these guitars at Guitar Center when they were manufactured. They made THOUSANDS of them. They SUCK!! The low impedance pickups were designed to be quiet and players HATE THEM!! It was another bad idea by Les, like the bridge/tailpiece he designed for the original 1952 Les Paul. When I owned a vintage guitar store, I wouldn't even take one of those in trade!!”

“The new instruments on the wall at Guitar Center are just as good and sound the same as so-called "vintage" guitars. By your logic, should a 1957 Chevrolet should be driven and preserved because we "learn" something from it? Hardly. The only thing special about vintage guitars is that they are cool and old, just like a 1957 Chevy. They are not superior to new gear in ANY way except cost!!”

george martini on Jun 12, 2012 at 08:06:42

“The guitar in the picture was owned by Les Paul and it is unlike any mass produced guitar at the Guitar Center. There is only one guitar like that in the world, with specially wound low impedance pickups. I read about this guitar in a 1977 Guitar Player magazine an I met Les Paul once and asked him about it. His son Rusty used to drive him around different night clubs in New Jersey.”

“You don't "Learn" squat from owning, playing or studying a so-called vintage guitar. The idea that you can compare them to Stradivarius makes me sick. Old Fenders and Gibsons were made by ordinary guys on machines in about 4 hours. Stradivarius would puke his pasta if he could read your silly comments.”

“The idea that a guitar gets some how better if it is played is BS. A Stradivarius is NO comparison to a "vintage" guitar which is machine made in about a 4 hour process. Vintage guitars have ZERO in common with a Strad!!”

“Yeah, but you are forgetting that MOST of that guitar's value was due to it's link to Les Paul. That year and model won't bring that kind of money normally. And it was way less than 500 made in 1951, the only year of "No-casters"”

BlueZoo on Jun 12, 2012 at 16:13:47

“You are absolutely right about this particular no-caster going for so much because it is associated with Les Paul. Normally, a no-caster goes for around $60K IF you can find one. You are also right about the number of true no-casters being less than 500. There were 275 made in the five months that the guitars were produced with no name. The rest were named Telecaster & Broadcaster.”

The sight of her father being dragged away in cuffs by the police and the terrifying night she would be spending with strangers at Child Protective Services would be FAR more damaging than having to watch her father laugh hysterically at Family Guy! I don't think calling the cops in this situation was warranted and could have had very traumatic results for this little girl! That's all.”
