“I can see that there are some who think that God exists only because the mind of man thought him/her up to ease his troubled mind and then when the mind dies along with the body;poof that is it;next! If,on the other hand one believes that we are created with a Soul and freewill and that that whatever you do and that means everything,"ye shall pay every whit",which brings in reincarnation and Karma.Whoever wants the first can have the "man is the center" thing.Me?I'll take the Creator. Tony”

“Ah, the old atheism=selfishness argument. The truth, of course, is far from the perception. Compassion and decency in individuals originate in many places. For naturalists like myself, the core basis for morality comes from the very plausible explanation that as social animals human beings depend on good behavior, altruism, generosity, forgiveness to survive in a world where natural predators take advantage of loners who aren't a part of a larger group. That's evolution at work, not a god or divine law. The fact that we developed larger brains over time leading to language, tool making, and eventually the construction of laws and rules suggests that human advantage depends on the consistent maintenance and evolution of our morals and ethics as our understanding of the world grows. Our morality towards fellow human beings today (yes, there are many counter examples, but the perceivable course of its development) is far more humane than that of 2000 years ago. Those who cling to strict religious interpretations (originalists of biblical and koranic law, for instance) would take us back to a time when public stonings for stealing a loaf of bread were the norm.”

“Just a comment on his condition which sounds like heart problems;when in my late 50' to early 60's for about 3 or 4 years my mind was detached from my body and just did not care about anything. It took a triple by-pass to get me on track.Who knows how long he had the problem and did not take care of it?Did not know him but remember the Box Tops and The Letter and Saigon in 68.May he perform for whoever he is with, wherever he is.Tony”
“How extraordinary! This is the most insightful essay of "American exceptionalism" that I have ever seen and without the eventual padding that would be if in a book and that last paragraph says so much about this country but for the last sentence where he says that he'd "think twice about sending it abroad to often". I would say never, ever. Tony”

“Sometimes it is. A lot of us make errors in posting. I don't see as well as I should so I do it a bit more than I should. Usually I do okay enough. You could improve a few things to make your prose more reader friendly. It doesn't change your point.”

“"The people of Haiti as a whole were punished".I wonder at any US citizen having the chutzpa to even talk about any other country and punishment for anything and to cite the Creator is the hight of arrogence.Between the US,France and UK, if they check their history,Haiti has been invaded, turned into slaves for the big corps, their lands ruined, leaders kidnapped because they would not play ball with these same corps. The US military as corp cops. Now tell me who are the sinners here and with the Israeli's wanting to build a "Tolerance Museum" on a Muslim graveyard where is their tolerance?Tony”

This is for all who embody a spirit of giving and expect no thanks for it.
For in the smile of one who hungers or is cold is there all the thanks one needs.
WHO; who indeed are the ones who hunger, are cold and have not shelter or food to eat? Are they not in a city anywhere in the world; out in a farm or ranch, shanty towns; how many countries would be free of this malady?
WHAT; hunger, disease, shelter, a job to even try to alleviate some of the anguish of what is called life but is no more than existence.
WHEN; Is it not happening now and has it not happened throughout history and yet is there nothing, nothing to excuse a heart, a home, a city, a country yea the world from helping a fellow heart, a fellow Soul to at the least survive.
WHERE; Does it matter where one is in pain and sorrow, for sorrow follows the pangs of hunger and a sidewalk or a floor of dirt to sleep on, do we not know that it may be next door, a stranger, a friend, family, some hearts across the globe?
How; Give of the heart, give of the mind, give a penny, give a morsel, mix with love and that is the real spirit of thanksgiving.
It is what I wish. Tony”
