Somehow I don't think this much "analysis" has gone on for all the thousands of "dumbed down" movies made for teenage boys and adolescent men... Do people think blockbusters like the Matrix or Harry Potter are that intellectually stimulating? It's just for FUN!

Listen to the DVD commentary with Rob, Kristen, and the Director all poking fun at themselves on Twilight..­. It's hilarous - It's too bad others don't have the same kind of sense of humor and levity.

“have to agree completely -- i don't really understand all the venom for this guy... he seems quite endearing and unassuming in all his interviews. i had a lot more problems with kristen's acting for exactly the same reasons. i liked her more in Panic room - but her face remains really emotionless and "dead" far too often... it makes it more difficult to connect with her. but they're both pretty young - i'm sure they'll improve over time...”

You missed the whole point of the article - in Vanity Fair, he's far more self-deprecating and critical of himself than any of the haters on this board... He, himself, characterized the role of Edward Cullen as about 80% bouffant hair... It's a "tween romance series" --what were you expecting, Shakespeare? I find it funny that there are so many haters of the guy - that always acts embarrassed by the attention.­.. It'd be one thing if he was an arrogant loud mouth who expected to be adored -- but constantly harping about a guy who's saying - I haven't done anything to deserve this fame but I appreciate my fans and how supportive they've been --just seems like wasted energy and pointless.­.. DiCaprio won a golden globe BEFORE Titanic for his amazing portrayal in "What's eating Gilbert Grape?" with Johnny Depp --who both remind me of Rob Pattinson quite a bit in their humility, gracious attitude toward their fans, and desire not to become some empty headed teen idol. Like Leo, Rob lucked into a "blockbuster", early on as a young guy, which has made people focus on his looks over his talent... And like Leo, he is using this exposure to take more interesting parts. He's already filmed others amidst all this Twilight craziness. I haven't seen a single interview where he has ever "whined" about being a star... Just the opposite, he seems like a sweet, unassuming regular guy - who's a little bewildered to be surrounding by crazy screaming women everywhere he goes... And no - I'm not a tween or a twi-hard. I've never read the books... I do hope that the tweenies stop going insane every time they see him - we don't need them chasing him into ongoing traffic! But he seems to be just getting started in his career - so I expect he's just going to get better and better... I'm sure he'll have many more opportunities to "dazzle" future audiences with more than his hair style...”
