VIDEO: Rep. Jenkins Laughs at Uninsured Single Mother, Son

Commented Sep 01, 2009 at 13:03:47 in Politics

“And I bet Rep. Lynn Jenkins considers herself a Compassionate Conservate and a concerned Christian. Perhaps she and all these other so-called Christians who are fighting against a Public Health Care Option should go back and re-read the scripture they proclaim to follow.

Matthew 25:41 “Then He will also say to those on His left, ‘Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels; 42 for I was hungry, and you gave Me nothing to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me nothing to drink; 43 I was a stranger, and you did not invite Me in; naked, and you did not clothe Me; sick, and in prison, and you did not visit Me.’ 44 “Then they themselves also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not take care of You?’ 45 “Then He will answer them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.’ 46 “These will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.””

“There are almost 200 different comments under this article. I'm sure you'll find a few that will help you see 'why anyone cares'. As far as I'm concerned, that was 15 minutes well invested. In fact, I'll invest 15 more minutes and read it again when I get home. Great job Mr. Kramer.”

“Dear Huffington Post LGBT Friends & Supporters,

While members of California’s LGBT Community have taken to the street en masse to protest Proposition 8, it seems Florida gays are resigned to having LGBT inequality enshrined into their state’s constitution. After 62 percent of Floridians voted for Amendment 2, little has been done to protest the discriminatory measure…until now! Join us this Saturday in towns & cities all over Florida to protest Amendment 2. The following link has more information and details:

“You are correct thetown. In addition to the Mormon Church, we should also focus our efforts on James Dobson and the Focus on the Family organization. I understand they made a substantial donation to both Prop 8 and Amendment 2 here in Florida.

“Bashing doesn't feel so great, does it? Members of the LGBT have been emotionally and physically bashed all our lives. Don't expect any sympathy from me!

So, does the Mormon Church really still own the Mariott Hotel Chain? That would be a great beginning. Someone let me know.

“The Mormon Church does not own the Marriott Hotel Chain. The Marriott Hotel Chain is owned and controlled by Brent Andrus and Kevin Koofer. Brent Andrus donated $20,000 to the Yes On 8 campaign.”

“Does anyone know if the list of other financial backers of both Florida's Amendment 2 and California's Proposition 8 is a matter of open record?

I'd like to get both list and begin an effort to identify the financial supporters and organize a systematic effort to boycott each and every business owned by the major donors.

I appreciate the passion being expressed by the street protesters there in California. It seems Floridians have just resigned themselves to accept it.

But I'm not backing down. It burns me up to know that a business I may patronize would end up using profits to pass laws that take away my basic civil rights. List anyone????

“You can start with Marriott. A Mormon family owns the corporation and they spent a lot of money to support Prop. 8.”

“I supported Obama when all my LGBT friends were rabid Clinton supporters. Our online magazine endorsed Obama from day one of the primaries. Geo Bustamante, our young associate editor, joined a group of young LGBT HIspanics, including Actor Wilson Cruz, in writing and signing an open letter encouraging Latinos to vote for Obama.

In return, I feel straight Black Americans collectively 'bitch-slapped' us in Arizona, Florida and California.

Actress Whoopi Goldberg says that because of Obama’s election, for the first time in her life, she feels “a part of the American Fabric”.

While I am elated with the Election of Obama, my joy is tempered by the fact that those of us in the LGBT community are not yet considered, to use Goldberg’s words, 'a part of the American fabric'.

California, Arizona & Florida voters all voted to enshrine inequality into their respective state Constitutions and, in doing so, put my basic civil rights, including hospital visitations, domestic partner benefits and other legal protections at tremendous risk.

Hell, I'm not asking for a gay or a lesbian to be elected President in order for me to feel like I'm a 'part of the fabric' of this country, I just want to have the same protections and recognitions as my straight counterparts. I trust Obama will be the LGBT ally he promised he would be during this campaign.

“Dear Mr Wylie,
Go ahead - hope for a Gay or Lesbian president some day. My openly Gay 15 year old turned to me with tears in his eyes the other night and said, "Maybe I can be the first Gay president." I'm a hard core realist but I also know that hope triumphs over fear. The timetable belongs to the universe. Never give up. My son won't. I won't. Thanks for being there.”

“As far as I know, no openly gay person has even been elected even to statewide office, or as mayor of a large US city. Congressman Barney Frank, head of the House Financial Services Committee is the highest ranking openly gay official in the US that I am aware of. I doubt that even he would have the confidence to run for Governor or Senator in Massachusetts. I hope he eventually proves me wrong.”

“More top ten reasons why Palin can't make the debate:
13. Can't find just-right shade of lipstick to match her debate outfit -- "Mooseblood Red" only available from small trading post in Wasilla.
12. Two words: no teleprompter.
11. Finds out Alaska isn't a country -- rushes back to sign executive order to change that.
10. Leaves in a huff when McCain calls her the C-word -- McCain puts in Cindy to pinch-hit.
09. Finds out she won't be awarded extra points for being Miss Congeniality.
08. Best friend decides to not to be gay anymore, so has to return to Alaska to pray the gay out. After all, friends come first.
07. Leaves in a huff claiming "gotcha politics" when she finds out there's no "Phone A Friend" or "Ask the Audience."
06. "Northern Exposure" marathon on cable this week and she HAS to be there -- she IS the governor.
05. Is REALLY busy with all this debate preparation -- just fax the questions and she'll "get back to ya."
04. Finds out there's no swimsuit competition when she's complaining about having trouble finding an evening gown.
03. Leaves in a huff when McCain won't agree to naming her witch doctor as head of voodoo economics.
02. Announces she's nine months pregnant and her water just broke -- she's got to rush back to Alaska so little Propjet won't be born on "tainted" soil.
01. Finds out Gwen Ifill isn't the cleaning lady.”
