“Obama inherited a recession, but he is making it worse. I think a lot of people were right that he did not have the experience to be the President.”

Viper replied on Nov 12, 2009 at 12:23:31

“Pure BS... he did not inherit a recession. He inherited a full blown economic collapse and in many ways worse than the great depression. Back in 1930, we made almost everything we used, had almost no debt, had trade surpluses and were not at war.

When he took over our debt had been tripled, the dollar devalued by 50% and we had gone from budget surpluses to a 1.4 trillion annual deficit. The largest single QTR GDP declines in history. 750K jobs per monthbeing lost. An economy that had not created a single net private sector job in 8 years. That had lost 7.5 million MFG jobs. The longest , 2 most expensive wars in our history that need not be!

The trend line has been changed. No one knows who to handle a crisis of this magnitude that rest on an economy that has been hollowed out and deindustrialized over the past 30 years! The credit that made this economy look good to many is GONE/used up! That was 14% of our GDP and there is nothing to replace that!

“Fox has high ratings for one reason. It is the only station that does not have a left wing bias. Liberals (including the White House) want all the stations to lean left and can't handle that there is one that doesn't”

“It is easy to generate ratings when you sensationalize everything and play to the lowest common denominator, which FOX corners the market on.”

foofoobunny replied on Nov 10, 2009 at 12:13:57

“Fox has high ratings because they pander to a specific group. If georgiaR is an indication of where you live, I can tell you as someone who lives in Georgia, you know exactly what group I am speaking of. All stations lean one way or the other...Fox does not lean, they are thick in the middle of the rightwing. If they were even slightly center, I would still be watching that station.”

allonfla replied on Nov 10, 2009 at 12:09:42

“The don't have a left wing bias, they have a Right Wing bias.

And if you watch the other stations you would know that they are not left wing. And if you watch some more you will realize that all these cable news shows are in it for profit not what is best for the viewer. They are all worthless and teach nothing.”

Simen replied on Nov 10, 2009 at 12:06:43

“First of all, that's not true. Most of the mainstream media is centrist, at best. Secondly, the main criticism against Fox News is not its bias. It's the fact that they are dishonest, they lie, they disinform and act with a clear aim. In other words, it acts more as a dishonest propaganda organization than a legitimate news channel.

There's plenty of evidence of lies, misrepresentation of people on the left, and downright propaganda on Fox News. And while its obvious that people such as Keith Olberman have a bias, he still doesn't act remotely like Glenn Beck, or many of the other propaganda makers at Fox News.”

“It has high ratings because it delivers what its viewers want: reinforcement of their beliefs. Not facts, not news, not perspectives, not truth. Legitimate media is perceived as "liberal" because the truth looks liberal to conservative minds in search of reinforcement. Non-FN viewers get their information from many different sources and are likely to be skeptical until finding corroboration, not from just a different spokesperson, but from different sources.”

You need to turn Beck, Hannity, and RUsh, off for a while. You do not understand how it worked in the 50's. The rich NEVER paid those tax rates. They got around them by investing in AMERICAN industries that created jobs. The 90% tax rate gave them incentive to invest. Now they just take their lower tax rate and send their money overseas to invest in cheap labor.

The evidence is there that shows that as the top tax rate has declined, so has the pay for the American worker in real dollars. Back in the 50's women worked because they wanted to, not because they had to. Families made it on one income.”

Second, though there is nothing in the bill that underwrites coverage for undocumented immigrants, for the sake of public health, they should be allowed to BUY into health care especially in this environment of pandemics -- period. oldngrumpy replied on Nov 06, 2009 at 15:52:35

“The AP is correct, but not in the way you are thinking,

Republicans want to block illegals from "BUYING" insurance through the federal program. This would force many of them to keep using our emergency rooms as their primary care physician and eliminate one important cost saving of the program and is strictly based in racism. There is language in the bill, and in separate legislation, that bars "ANY" federal funds from going to illegals. They can't even get a discount on the coverage as the bill is written.

The abortion issue referenced is also of Republican manufacture. They want any person or facility that performs, or advocates, abortion to be blocked from receiving payment from the program. The bill already blocks any payment for "ANY" abortion related service. Many clinics, hospitals, doctors, etc may offer abortion counciling or services as a "PART" of their total service. This is nothing but obstruction.”

Actually, if you do like your private insurnace, yes one thing will change about it; the cost will go down because of competition with the public option. So, your insurance will remain the same...the cost will be more affordable for you...that is the difference.
No, there are no deathpanels, deathcamps or any other such nonsense in the bill. The reduction in Medicare cost IS NOT a reduction in care for the elderly...the AARP fully endorses healthcare reform...so does the AMA. There is much wasted cost that needs to be trimmed from Medicare, Medicaid, etc. so money can actually be SAVED and costs for the elderly will decrease because of the savings. These are checked facts.”

There are loopholes and there are loopholes, and Americans will ALWAYS find a way to help people standing in an ER before tossing them out. I suppose the 'R' in your name refers to 'Republican', maybe. Well, then where's all that COMPASSION we hear pouring forth from your party's lips?

Here's another thought. I loved my doctor and I have a pretty good health care plan, but my doctor decided he didn't like the way AETNA handled billing, so my EX-doctor no longer sees me. Same with my dentist I've gone to for many, many years. The only way I could keep him was to change to another 'dental plan' provider. Ok - I still got my same dentist, but I pay 3 times more now for the same service.

As for abortions, personally, I think procedures will ALWAYS be available one way or another to women. That ship has sailed.

If you're still harping on 'death panels' I'm not sure why I even bothered to write all this, because you're about as loopy as Bachmann and her tea partiers.

“The reason we're not talking about it is that it is not now and never was the problem. The Fed has said the role low income housing played in the financial meltdown was "negligible." Please take note, that is different than minimal. Negligible means barelyl even detectible.

Furthermore, studies indicate low income housing mortgages don't default at any higher rate than the mortgage market in general.

Furthermore, even if every one of the low income mortgages made in America failed, it would only amount to less than 5% of all mortgages.

We're trying to deal with the real problem, namely that Wall Street created a housing bubble by buying home mortgages, slicing and dicing them into bonds, paid off the ratings agencies to give the bonds Triple A ratings, and passed all the risk onto the bond holders. When the market began to decline, the banks were left holding hundreds of billions worth of bonds they could not sell. Since deregulation had allowed the banks to hold bonds with only 3% down, once the bonds dropped in value 3%, they became worthless to the banks, and once they dropped more, they became toxic assets to the banks. Once the mortgages became toxic, no one could determine what the large banks were worth, so they stopped lending to each other. When that happened, the entire system stopped.”
