Too Big to Block? Why Obama Must Stop the Comcast-NBC Merger

Commented Dec 01, 2009 at 00:04:53 in Media

“All of this sounds grave except for one thing: I don't have cable and I don't watch much TV. In fact, I don't own a TV! Moreover, I use Clearwire for my internet access. Thus, Comcast can't force a zillion channels on me.”

More Palin Lies: The Trooper in 'Troopergate' Breaks His Silence

Commented Nov 26, 2009 at 08:03:58 in Politics

“Yeah. She's a white, conservative woman and Obama's not. Again, liberals don't hate Sarah Palin. We just don't think she's a competent leader. She's populism without thought nor reason ; she's devoid of ideas and quite frankly, she's fairly vindictive and unprofessional. Her dysfunctional relationship with Wooten and Levi Johnson is proof of that vindictiveness and unprofessionalism. You want someone like that to run the country? Complain all you want with Obama, but compared to Palin, he looks like the better pick.”

“Let's be real: Sending more troops into Afghanistan would be foolhardy. Even the Afghan President isn't really on the up and up. I say we withdraw our troops except for special forces to deal with the Taliban and Al Qaeda. Let Hamid Karzai fix Afghanistan.”

Yank in France replied on Oct 20, 2009 at 01:47:31

“Hi gfs,
I don't think we should let our disgust with GW Bush mask the complexity of the situation in Afghanistan. Let's be clear among ourselves (at least): If we leave Afghanistan or just leave a residual force to combat al-qaeda, the Taliban will be back in power in no time.
And if the Taliban come to power, there is nothing to guarantee that they won't allow al-qaeda to return (have they really left? Is our intelligence all that good in the mountains of Afghanistan/Pakistan?) -- quite the contrary!
Obama has some very tough decisions ahead of him. My guess is that somewhere along the line the totally Un-PC decision will be made to depose Karzai. At least, I hope so. His main opponent looks good. But there is one thing for sure: We can't do anything good in Afghanistan without a representative govt willing to combat rampant corruption and work toward rebuilding the nation-state.”

Sen. Kyl Not Sure People Die From Lack of Health Insurance

Commented Oct 19, 2009 at 16:21:46 in Politics

My Response to Rush Limbaugh's Rage

Commented Oct 15, 2009 at 08:52:35 in Politics

“Given of this, though I think some of the NFL owners are racist, they tend to respect money and physical talent and winning games more. Moreover, they are mostly quiet about their racism because they know in the end they can't make money on racial bias. Rush is never been quiet about his racism and so it doesn't make a good fit. They may agree with him on some level, but in the end, they know he's a money loser and they can't have that.”

surfnerd replied on Oct 15, 2009 at 10:35:07

“And your proof that "some of the NFL owners are racist" being? And if what you say is actually true? Why should that preclude anyone from owning an NFL team for their beliefs? Obviously they are racist, wait, the NFL is made up of 66% black players, what constitutes racism in the NFL, having the percentage of Black players under 70%, 80%? What is the proper number to be not racist? Wealthy and White does not equal racism but assuming wealthy and White apparently does...

By the way, the 2009 NFL Racial and Gender Report Card just gave the NFL its best rating ever to the in diversity to the NFL.

"The National Football League achieved an A‐ grade on racial hiring practices and a C on gender hiring practices in the 2009 NFL Racial and Gender Report Card. This gave the NFL a combined B. In the history of the NFL Racial and Gender Report Card, those are the best grades ever received in each category for the NFL."”

“To be honest, I don't Obama is going to say much either. Before you say something, let's be clear on one thing: Though the military has been largely integrated, there hasn't been much integration in the upper officer ranks. Where are the Black Navy Admirals? Are there any Generals currently serving in the Army or the Marines? (Sorry, Colin Powell doesn't) Any Women commanding combat ships? More like women getting raped. And gays want to openly serve in this crazy mess? Good Luck!”

“The problem with this anti-illegal immigration stuff is it always hurts the legal immigrants or even folks born and raised in the States, so I'm inclined to think that no good will come to this. When one group of folks thinks that all Latinos are alike, they think that all Latinos are illegal.”

Is the Recession Over?

Is the Recession Over?

Commented Sep 18, 2009 at 21:31:06 in Politics

“Technically, the recession is over and the unemployment rate in the states of VA and MD are stabilizing ( http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/09/18/AR2009091802027.html?hpid=topnews ), but it has yet to come to the rest of US. However, we got to keep telling our elected officals to make Wall Street accountable for the mess they've put us in. That's a message for liberals and conservatives.”

CaptainVideo replied on Sep 19, 2009 at 08:12:55

“While making Wall Street accountable will reduce the chances of a similar debacle happening again, and is therefore highly desirable, it will do nothing to restore the economy to full employment. Expansionary monetary and fiscal policies are the main tools for restoring the economy to full employment. More expansionary monetary and fiscal policies could cause the economy to return to full employment sooner.”

Coastalthinker2 replied on Sep 18, 2009 at 21:44:54

“Agreed...Wall Street must be held accountable and regulations must be put in place to change behaviors. And yes, that is a message for liberals AND conservatives. I do not believe the mindset on Wall Street will change without being forced to and here is one reason why:

The Problem with Obama's Speech

Commented Sep 10, 2009 at 10:40:49 in Politics

“Yes, but in the end, we have to fight to keep the public option. We have to explain in clear terms its benefits and let's be realistic: logically Triggers and Co-Ops don't work so they're not a viable alternative here. We need the public option to force the insurers and Big Pharma to compete otherwise, they have the license to jack up the rates.”

Is Hazing a Form of Torture?

Commented Sep 06, 2009 at 14:33:23 in Politics

“Speaking as a former Navy sailor, hazing isn't torture. However, in the hands of sadistic, sociopathic people, it can be just as demeaning and demoralizing as torture. It depends entirely on the people inflicting the act. If the act isn't done in a meansprited way, then you won't hear it in the news.”
