FCC Considers Allowing In-Flight Cellphone Calls And Everything Is Terrible

“I can think of few modes of torture worse than sitting next to some self-important business person or a bored millennial yakking on their cellphone throughout a multi-hour flight. This has got to be one of the worst ideas in the history of airline travel.”

“I hope the GOP nominates the most conservative candidate they can find. When said candidate gets trounced by the Dem nominee, they will no longer be able to claim they are losing presidential elections because they are nominating moderates.”

Querent on Nov 12, 2013 at 20:29:12

“That would be true if conservatives lived in reality. But they don't. It doesn't matter how ridiculous an assertion is, to conservatives. If they think they can benefit from it, they will make it.”

“The GOP can afford to let it die in the House because most of them occupy safe seats, thanks to the gerrymandering done by GOP state legislators. I would bet that most of them don't even care if there's ever a Republican in the White House again as long as they collect their princely salary and government benefits.”

There also has to be an understanding that skills/pay are part of the equation. I guess I would also say, if things are so bad here, why do so many immigrants want to come?”

“Just like many in Congress, I don't think the president really understood what the law said when he made that statement. He should never have said it and now it's coming back to haunt him.”

DStredwick on Nov 2, 2013 at 18:51:57

“The misunderstanding was more likely how the insurance industry operates on an individual policy basis than the president not understanding what the law said. The law didn't take into account individual contract policies.”

Species5618 on Nov 2, 2013 at 18:45:28

“He did understand, he just didn't make the proper statement. He should have made it clear that if your existing plan was inline with what the ACA mandated, your plan wouldn't change. It's been made clear that the plans that are getting canceled are the ones that are clearly substandard.”

“I believe strongly that the 1% ought to be paying higher taxes but if this story is true, then it's more of an indictment of our tax code than it is of Romney. There isn't any allegation that he did anything illegal, right? I don't pay any more taxes than I owe and I doubt any other HuffPo readers to either.

If we are mad because the 1% don't pay enough in taxes, then we should elect a congress that will change the tax code.”

mairs on Nov 1, 2013 at 10:57:26

“It would have undercut Romney's contention that the wealthy needed more tax breaks. There was more at stake than the legality of dodging taxes, and I agree with you that he most likely didn't break any laws. I'm sure he dotted every i and crossed every t.”

REMEMBER2050 on Nov 1, 2013 at 10:24:06

“If he stashed money offshore and took advantage of IRS amnesty to finally report it (in order to avoid subsequent prosecution), that is NOT about tax code problems. That is about moral problems, and being so morally delinquent you choose to enrich yourself at the expense of others, not to mention directly on THEIR tax dimes.”

ceegee111 on Nov 1, 2013 at 10:17:06

Democrats Have A Shot At Taking Back The House As Republican Popularity Continues To Drop: Poll

Commented Oct 21, 2013 at 10:30:41 in Politics

“This is wishful thinking. It won't happen for 2 reasons: 1) voters' memories are incredibly short and 2) 75% of the GOP seats are "safe" seats. The potential Democratic voters have been gerrymandered into their own districts.”

GeoffreyF on Oct 21, 2013 at 10:55:13

“1a) Republicans will remind everyone what they are.
1b) Democrats will remind everyone what Republicans are with methods that we are expert at.
2a) It doesn't matter if those are safe if they no longer have a majority in the house and Democrats have a super majority in the Senate.
2b) Gerrymandering is less effective in successive elections as it's based on past behaviors. Gerrymandering collapses when the past basis changes. The polls are in those districts.”

falconear on Oct 21, 2013 at 10:38:10

“On point one, you're correct. It's still a LONG way to Nov 2014. We can only hope the baggers keep shooting themselves in the foot. On point two though, 25% of the seats are NOT safe, and that would be enough to turn the tide. Remember, they need less than 20 seats to take over. So the lesson should be that there's still a lot of work to do.”

admin001 on Oct 21, 2013 at 10:34:32

“We'll see about that.

If the house GOP tries to pull another stunt like the last one .. threatening to default if the Democrats refuse their demands to gut Social Security and Medicare ... even their gerrymandering won't help them.

Americans are sick of the Radical Tea Party.”
