“No, he didn't. And "change WE can believe in" can't be accomplished in this democracy by the president alone. President Obama has followed through on the majority of promises he has made [ http://politifact.com/truth-o-meter/promises/subjects/politifacts-top-promises/?page=1 ]. Washington politics is a quagmire, made more entrenched by the excesses of the past 8 yrs. Anyone who thought President Obama could change things overnight is naive, at best. Anyone who doesn't see that prioritizing is important to best resolve the myriad problems that we face doesn't realize that the U.S. govt is a vast and complex (lack of) structure, manipulated in so many ways by corporate interests. No one person could come into this and ramrod his way through to a better way. It seems the only ones permitted to ram their agenda down the American ppls' throats were the last admin, who were conveniently aligned w/ the corporations. On top of the petrified resistance to change that is Washington, our president faces exponentially higher threats to his life and family's, fueled by crazy wingnuts and permitted by their "leaders" on the right. A country brought close to ruin, not by him. No, he is trying to do SOMETHING in order to reestablish what America truly is. Dealing with brats on the right & left whining, under an sensation-hungry media microscope ... if I were him I'd tell all of you to kiss my a$$. But that's not what president's do, is it?”

“Its really interesting reading some of these knee-jerk posts. Gut reactions ... we sure need more of that, NOT! Maybe when you're president someday of what was once the greatest country on earth, trying to keep it all together in the face of the unimaginable (and unknowable to you now) to rebuild after undeniable years of neglect and abuse ON EVERY LEVEL, crazy mofos everywhere threatening your life, fueled by even crazier and irresponsible "leaders", when any of you find yourselves there, then maybe you would have a valid and informed point. No one here knows why the president made this choice but I sense it has something to do with picking his battles.”

“Neither candidate Obama nor President Obama has ever presented himself as a progressive. Ppl see what they want to see. The president has always been moderate and never said anything different.”

“actually he hasn't said anything..but he campaigned as a democrat and a progressive. He is trying his damndest to get some of the republithugs on his side. Perino will take the job, but don't count on her for any intelligent life. Obama has to include all types doesn't he? He is president of us all. He is doing a good job of not being a supporter of his base. Couldn't say that much about the bush boy.”

There's just so much vitriolic and ridiculous flooding the media messaging, any criticism coming from anywhere gets all mixed up with the bs. But I don't understand what President Obama is trying to do here.”

“extremes on either side are never good. if progressives are truly more evolved than their rightwing counterparts, shouldn't they be more capable of resisting emotional responses? Shouldn't you be more capable than those on the extreme right of containing what you feel and considering more thoughtful responses? Like the president? Those who feel that they worked so hard to elect President Obama and now because everything hasn't been fixed in a year, I feel, are short-sighted and naive if they ever thought that it could happen like that. The president hasn't changed but you sure have. What have YOU done for the country lately? Besides bi*tch

“Excellent comments but you forgot to mention the fact that its the political process that is so slow. The president laid out his agenda during the campaign and has stayed pretty consistent with its implementation. We have three branches of govt tho it seems some have forgotten that. It isn't best for the president to ram through his agenda if he wants to govern the entire nation. IMHO, its best to get everyone to do their job in order that all are represented. This president has been consistent throughout his campaign and in his governance.

"Change Is Hard": Obama A Year After Election

“What exactly is "real change"? Explain your point, please. In some parallel universe I would love to see the likes of a Dennis Kucinich or Bernie Sanders or any other progressive congressman push their agendas through the quagmire of Washington politics. Think about it. If President Obama had come out swinging pushing a 'my way or the highway' agenda much of what is still moving forward would have been killed by now. In that parallel universe Ron Paul's impassioned cries to abolish the fed, taxes and make all drugs legal would have been met with the same conflicted, fossilized system that is Washington politics and would ultimately come to naught. As conciliatory as this president has been, he is still getting a huge pushback with conservatives nipping at his heels for everything including his honoring the dead at Dover AFB. Its an ocean liner, ppl, not a speed boat. If the image of the kinds of fair-weathered tantrums I see coming from these disillusioned "supporters" (who in any other year would've voted for McCain, imho) is what we're teaching our children then ...”

“What is "real change"? I will know it when you see it. ;-)
I am not judging Obama by how much change he delivers but how much he is trying. The simple fact is he is not even trying hard enough. I will grant you that the change is difficult under these circumstances but no change is possible if you don't even try! How do appointments of people who clearly do not believe in any change in key positions square with any stated desire for change?
Read this and tell me which of Obama's people today would write anything even resembling this?
http://www.progressive.org/wx041409.html
Obama's pathetic attempts to change can be only explained away by rationalization, which is a wonderful tool when you need it. ;-)”
