“ok, so what were YOUR consequences? how did you cope with them? I guess, being a girl in the military, I already had one strike against me, so disobeying direct orders probably would have been much harder on me than your regular (read male) soldier/sa ilor/marin e/coastie. ...you realize that it is a Man's world all over the place and especially in the military? Not being snarky, I'd really like to know.”

“I'm a child of the 70's. Even after all the 'feminist' movements, and equal rights activity that happened when I was young, it's
STILL A MAN'S WORLD.
I feel like I've been thrown in the 'wayback machine' in this country. I am too old and too tired to go out and protest for my civil rights like I did when I was young. Women's rights causes have to be taken up by the younger generation in order for it to have any effect.”

“as another Montanan, I have to say, Max Baucus makes me ashamed that we keep electing him. I know he's not the ONLY one who does the dastardly deeds that he does, but it makes me ashamed that we as Montanans have him represent us. When are we going to start electing some honest people? you know, someone you'd want as a neighbor? I am so tired of the whole 'it's just politics' attitude that I could just about hurl. When are we going to quit ACCEPTING the fact that our so-called REPRESENTATIVES are for sale to the highest bidder????!!! Not just in MT either!”

Commented Aug 19, 2009 at 09:43:37 in Green
“I just had this conversation with my old man. I was all for boycotting the Eagles cause Vick's playing there now and my old man's attitude was that he had 'done his time and paid his debt'. I also am an omnivore, but I have actually raised my own steer and butchered it, I KNOW where my food comes from. That said, I have to say, there's a hell of a big difference between meat eaters and dog fight promoters.”

“Yeah. I can't understand the thought process that tells you that because you make less than someone else that somehow they are responsible for supporting you. And that wether they like it or not you are going to take their money forcefully because you could use it more and you are entitled to it. I am an average person. I support my family and we live comfortably. We are nowhere near rich. And we both have to work to make ends meet. But we are satisfied with what we have because what we have we EARNED. We do not whine about other people making more than us. We do not complain about people having more homes or better cars than us. Those people are successful and have done well for themselves. Good for them. A new car is not going to make me any happier. A bigger home in a nicer neighborhood is not going to make us any happier. We are grateful for what we have accomplished. We are grateful for what we have. maybe you should try being a little more grateful and a little less like a whiny 10 year old complaining about the neighbor kid having a nicer bike.”

“Because the propaganda is so effective.
Most importantly, you pit one group against another ('I'm not paying taxes so those damn immigrants can live on welfare'). Then you invoke Horatio Alger and the American Dream; then you advertise 'gotta be in it to win it' lotteries; then you create reality shows where everyone can be on the tee vee.
Soon enough, you have the masses believing not only can they become millionaires too, if only they work hard enough and the stars are aligned correctly, but you can actually get them to vote against their own best interests and cheer for sarah palin!
Amazing how it can work when corporations own the airwaves and the the government. We pay they play.”

still me:
I see this as the govt becoming our insurance carrier, not our medical provider--we'd still have the same doctors, hospitals etc, just wouldn't have to fight with our insurance companies--who's major job, it seems to me is to DENY CLAIMS---do you realize that health insurance companies spend more money on executive compensation, lobbying and advertising than they do on actually providing coverage?
her: I just have to say I disagree. We are talking about the US government not England and Canada. I don't want the US government to be my insurance carrier***** I DO want them to be in charge of National defense. *****I don't want them taking money away from National Defense to pay for my health care.
me again:
in other words, you trust them with nuclear bombs, biological weapons, and soldiers, but not with sick people, nurses and doctors? or are you afraid they'll spend too much money on healthcare, and the military won't have enough? not being snarky, I just want to understand ..........
why do you want to give them more money for the military if they screw things up so bad?
My friend is usually a thinking person, but I've figured out, that when it comes to politics, she's just a cheerleade r.....sad isn't it?”

been having an email discussion with a one of my republican friends... about healthcare ....I forwarded dennis kuchinich's email to her about univeral healthcare .......her e's some of my reasoning and the rant that I got back:
me:
I believe that the way our healthcare industry is ran right now is just wrong---too many 'middle-men' (insurance, pharmaceutical, hmo's, etc) Lots of other countries have public health care and it seems to work just fine for them...nob ody is going bankrupt over medical issues. I have several Canadian friends who swear by it. My mother is from England and grew up with it and says its great and can't believe that we don't have it here...... several times over the years, my mother flew to England to stay with relatives and get her healthcare done there so that she wouldn't bankrupt the family. (why the hell does it cost so much here?)”
