A New Wrinkle in the JFK Assassination Story

Commented Oct 30, 2009 at 11:05:45 in Books

“Of course LBJ was worried. For anyone to believe the JFK assassination was a single gun, does not understand the complexities of our society.

Men will kill others to get what they want. I there is money, power or control at stake, men will kill, no matter who the victim may be.

Are there rogue elements in our own government? Of course, there have been, and likely will always be. There's just too much money, power and greed operating in this country to think otherwise.

Any President elected understands that behind the veil of civilized society, there are rogue elements that will do what is needed to change the flow of money and the exchange of power.”

Knowbetter replied on Oct 30, 2009 at 13:01:06

“Believe what you want, but my uncle served on both JFK and LBJ's transition teams and worked closely with both men. He, my father, and another uncle who was an award-winning investigative journalist, were all present at the Dallas County Courthouse when Oswald was shot. Because of their various connections, they were able to go around with the investigating team and saw everything they saw . These are intelligent, educated men well-versed in the complexities of society, and they all agreed that Oswald did it.

I'll take the word of people WHO WERE THERE. No offense guys, but unless one of you has firsthand knowledge closer to the source than that, I'm not changing my mind.”

“There are still plaenty of people - members of my own family - who still believe that a single gun anbd s single bullet produced a shot that richeted around in the car hitting someone or something SEVEN times. I think it is that the idea that any group could plot to kill our beloved president - someone other than Oswald, I guess - is too much to fathom. But imagine today if someone arranged to kill a president who opposed intervention in another nation. Itsounds so real, doesn't it? We finally understand that there really are those who would do this.

We all now know how deeply involved some members of the CIA - as well as our Defense Department - were in aiding the anti-Castro Cubans. The pressure to oppose The Soviets was a very serious subject to many Americans. But we did not have either the means to get information or the means to convey how we felt about the problem of Communism. We simply feared it and let others deal with it. Islamic terrorism is today's Communism.”

If true though, it seems to debunk the theories that Johnson was directing the assisination in any way.”

“We're a looney country. Most of the developed, educated world restricts the use of firearms in society. No surprise that their violence and homicide rates are dramatically lower than the US'

It's sheer folly to connect the 2nd Amendment to permit today the virtually unrestricted sale of firearms. We no longer need militias to protect our towns from invading foreigners.

Last time I looked, most of the shooting in my town was being done by drug warriors and gang members, many of them teenagers. Additionally, if I was a patrol officer, I would pull over every speeding vehicle nearly assuming the driver has a loaded handgun in the car, waiting to shoot instead of being ticketed or arrested.

How many innocent people/law enforcement would be alive today had we gun laws akin to that of western Europe or Japan?

We've allowed the gun industry to change this country from being possibly one of the most progressive, into one of the most depressive. Guns, guns, everywhere. It's crazy.”

The Rise and Fall of Detroit

Commented May 18, 2009 at 08:36:40 in Business

“I agree with Alec's article.

What is amazing is that the Detroit 3 had years, decades to learn from the Asian carmakers about engine engineering, transmissions, and fit and finish. It was clear then that these Asian cars were better engineered cars, how difficult would it have been for Detroit to invest in quiet, reliable engines, and transmissions that were bulletproof? Instead, they proudly put on their floors cars that had engines that Consumer Reports (even in 2009) calls "rough, coarse," and fit and finish that CR calls "cheap, plastic, tacky." Shame on us. Detroit management and labor deserve the blame for this.

Another example: Kia and Hyundai. A few years ago, their cars were a bit substandard. This small country then, in the space of a few years, put its shoulder to the wheel and its brains in overdrive, and developed a line of cars that are on a par with Toyota. Its new Genesis sedan is an engineering success. Does Ford have a comparable car?.....no. How does a small Asian country kick our engineering ass like this?

I say put the cars companies in BK, force the unions to start from scratch on their abusive deals, hire competent management, retrain workers to understand quality and to give a sh..t, nationalize the companies and have a Car Czar run a 5 year plan to build the best cars in the world. Sound socialist? Yes, but what is the alternative? Americans will then gladly buy American.”

AverageJosef replied on May 18, 2009 at 08:54:35

“Detroit 3 did try to improve and learn from Asian carmakers. Whether that was just theater is debatable. Also, GM's Saturn division did offer changes, alas there are no "real" Saturn cars being made anymore. But, on the whole the essay is correct. We should not prop up a failing and corrupt industry. Just the fact that they fight against fuel controls is sickening.

Perhaps they can create a new circus and have
Detroit cars act as clowns. Lets see that SUV flip over as we tap on the brakes ....”

“There's a method to Pres. Barack's madness.

It seems that Obama is positioning himself the way Lincoln did, knowing that to move his agenda forward, he would need to surround himself with both trusted friends, but also adversaries.

People thought Lincoln unbalanced for lining his cabinet with adversaries, but there was real wisdom in this. He defused his enemies, and made allies of people on the opposite side of the aisle. In this way, instead of having a polarized cabinet, he was able to move his agenda forward.

Lincoln was savvy, wise, and often criticized by his own supporters, but he achieved his goals, which he saw as the important bottom line. Barack may be charting a similar course.”

Should the Government Bail Out the Big Three U.S. Automakers? HuffPost Bloggers Weigh In

Commented Nov 20, 2008 at 00:48:01 in Business

“If there was some assurance that the Big Three would reform the way it engineers its cars and runs its business, then a lot of Americans might be willing to make an investment in propping up Detroit.

The Big Three have very little credibility. It's like lending money to a beloved cousin for the tenth time, after he's gambled away the previous nine loans on risky ventures. Eventually, you have to exercise "tough love, " and say "no, you're going to sink or swim on your own."

The Big Three have had decades to get up to snuff with auto engineering. Everyone I know will gladly buy a Toyota or Honda over an American brand. I have a neighbor that purchased a brand new GM car, took it for a drive into a neighboring state, where it broke down. How does that happen? I have a 1999 Lexus RX300 that has required nothing beyond oil changes and routine brake pads...it's a beautiful example of engineering.

Everything I've said I know is warmed over hash..it's all been said before. Why can't the greatest, most dynamic, energetic country on Earth produce the best cars in the world? How has a tiny island country in Asia beat us so badly? We really, after all of these years, should be mad as hell, and willing to do something about it. Giving the poor cousin another loan is not the answer.”

“The real issue is McCain's failure to take seriously the VP pick, and to choose a possible sucessor so clearly incapable of acting as a President.

If a politician truly cares about this country, and truly takes seriously the myriad problems facing the country, why install an obvious political gimmick? Either Karl Rove is running the show, or McCain could give a rat's rear end about the problems facing the country.

“Perhaps Barack should have chosen a local TV anchorwoman to be his running mate. Unlike Biden, with his intellect, foreign policy experience, and ability to assume the Presidency if necessary, a TV newsreader could deliver a good scripted speech, and with enough coaching could pretend to know the difference between Slovenia and Slovakia. For the most compelling country in the world, we've really dumbed ourselves down. The Obama / Biden ticket, the most competent, skilled ticket in 100 years, has to share airspace with a Rove corrupted McCain and a small town former beauty contestant, who was only recently elected governor of a very small population state. I do think there's more to come on this Palin issue, and the issue is squarely a McCain issue. It has to do with McCain's disregard for the welfare of the country, by making such a silly pick. Are we that stupid in this country? I hope not. http://www.palinbycomparison.net

And now they seem to be talking abt this Local TV anchorwoman. She wasnt even good enough to make it to National tv.And we know it isnt that National TV standards are too high, giving that Bill Oreilly and Hannity ,plus many others are in there.

Even the MSM sometimes seem to be trying to say ,its O's fault that he has all this natural and God given abilities.

One thing I can say though is that America is at a cross road and will get what they want come November. O is a successful man no matter what or where he goes to.Its America's future thats on the balance and not O's”

While I do not agree with Biden in much of his foreign-policy statements likely because I do not share his base historical view, I respect him because he is sincere and analytical. Palin is not, evidenced by the fact that she has to list a stop-over in Ireland as a foreign-policy experience. If I were her and sincere in my desire to serve the nation, I would have refused the VP position because I knew I was unqualified -- that is a testament of character and decision-making.”
