“If it's a private school, they can pretty much require what they want, so long as they aren't breaching a contract or breaking the law. If students don't like it, they can take their heft and money elsewhere.
That said, BMI alone is a bit arbitrary. Will they apply this requirement to the football team, shotput throwers, etc.?”

“These trials will most likely make a farce of our system and are potentially dangerous.
That said, this conservative thinks Bill looked like a knucklehead going after the lawyer personally. The lawyer obviously wasn't some kind of true believer--thinking what his clients did was right. Like a good public defender, he is defending the process and the Constitution.
Someone should remind Bill who it was that defended the British soldiers after the Boston Massacre.”

“These trials will NOT "make a farce of our system" but will show the world that the U.S. believes in the rule of law. You can bet the judge will keep tight control over that courtroom, one which has considerable experience in handling difficult cases.
And "potentially dangerous?" Are you serious? There is no way anyone will be in any more danger before, during or after these trials.
I do not understand all the ridiculous fearmongering. It is unbecoming a great nation, or one that thinks it is a great nation.”

Adam closed the show, so by then may have felt he had to really be "out there" to get some attention. He appears to have been very successful in that respect at least. Still, I'd like to think he'd have had enough sense to tone things down in the context of a performing following a nice segment about candied yams on a morning show. But you never know. And yet, there's no chance that they're going to let him walk free, even though he probably should under our laws. So we have to ask, what kind of rules are they going to make up to apply to this trial? How could they be constitutional? Will the judge just make it up as he goes?
The President and AG's actions here make a mockery of what is good about our justice system.”

“Liberal arts colleges are great. Though I'd disagree on how much emphasis should be put on going "beyond traditional canons and methodologies". That kind of misses the point of a liberal arts education. One of its greatest assets is the emphasis on our society's universal canon...and learning how to think, rather than what to think. It's a core curriculum--as opposed to a potpourri of obscure topics--that is their strength. This should be the emphasis. And after you learn how to think--that is when you "go beyond"--and specialize in grad school or what-have-you.”
