Authors Of Texas Marriage Amendment: Who Barks The Loudest?

Authors Of Texas Marriage Amendment: Who Barks The Loudest?

Commented Nov 23, 2009 at 06:46:52 in Politics

“Barbara, I love you, I voted for you when you ran for Senate against KBH. I even gave money to your campaign. But this is just not a reasonable complaint (it is a feel good/fun read) Any constitutional scholar or even shade tree lawyer would know to interpret the section in question "b" along with "a". The first question is can they be harmonized? Yes, the first establishes what the voters intended "marriage" to be and the second is sort of an unnecessary addition to prohibit that the state or any of its subdivisions from creating anything similar to what is defined in section "a". Bigoted? yes. Poorly written? yes. Outlaw of traditional marriage ? No.
Keep fighting Barbara. You are a good woman and a great lawyer.”

WhitneyKyle replied on Nov 27, 2009 at 10:36:18

“You conveniently ignore the phrase "or recognize'. Therein lies the problem. The language is clear, but it wasn't the intent. Had they used the term "and recognize' they would have not outlawed all marriage by accident, but the didn't did they? This is not an issue of vague language. It is an issue of clear language, but not the intent intended. In America you cannot just declare that laws mean other than what they say, especially if the wording is clear and exact.”

“Arianna, - cutting the corporate bonus packages of many executives that lead companies that received bailout money is positive action against the forces of regression. Reform in Washington is a slow process because we are fighting entrenched corporate lobbyist. Consider the task and the possible, stop demanding the impossible. Consider this fact, this is the first time that U.S. corporate executives' pay has ever been reduced by government action other than by taxes. This is push back. Progress was made. Let's not have a drunken complaint session. It's time for a toast.”

“I think that Gloria Borger was the voice of reason here. It is very difficult to pass reform legislation in Washington that is totally opposed to the corporate lobby. It is more important that we keep a calm sense of who is on the right side of these issues and give them more than nine short months to change the entire climate in Washington. This is almost as harsh as asking for the V.P. to resign. I am tiring of Arianna's constant criticism. It undermines President Obama's public support which is important for future battles.

Let's look long term.”

We need more calling out of inane and foolish politicos and pundits.

When told by a crowd to "give em hell Harry" President Truman responded that, "I just tell them the truth and they think it's hell."

Well, President Obama and his spokesmen (and women) like Alexrod, Sebelius and his press secretary need to continue to give them hell. Help educate the American people that the foolish and prejudice opponents really are wrong, not just the honorable opposition.”

“stupid hyperbole. Enforcement of criminal statutes by a special prosecutor is hardly political.

The right wing neocons abused the CIA by imposing a new nomenclature upon it, using contract laborers who understood nothing about interrogations, then destroying the evidence of their wrongs (erasing the video tapes). And now, because it will expose the neocons for the crooks that they are, fools like you decide to argue that we give them a pass. I sure hope not.”

“My heart goes out to you Ms. King. Darn shame that the Reagan policies that hurt the working men and women of this country did not protect their rights to an honest living. That, followed by their inability to address these wrongs in American courts, known to the right as tort reform, left many struggling to keep their homes in times of unfair treatment.

Darn shame that too many middle class voters have not been able to connect the dots.

Thank you for sharing your experience. Bless you and your family.”

“Just ask the uninsured family if they would like some coverage. We understand that it is not the same great coverage that members of Congress may have purchased for them from expensive insurance providers. But the millions of uninsured would certainly appreciate some health care insurance from a public option. That it may not be as good as the Cadillac system of others is of little moment to the uninsured.

That members of Congress may prefer their own private policy is no reason to deny the poor health care. That is unless you are a wealthy republican who objects to government providing needed services to the poor and disadvantaged.

And finally, no one is having anything pushed down their throats. This is the democratic process working to improve our country.”

"We Need Help!": The Health Care Clip Every American Should Watch

Commented Aug 28, 2009 at 06:11:20 in Politics

“Very moving piece. Well done Rick Sanchez for airing this exchange.

We now need a follow up. Interview this dear lady and film her husband now. Find out just what assistance that her neighbor Senator Coburn provided. Was it private assistance or did his staff find her government programs? Or did he do nothing ? What assistance did those fine people in the audience give that applauded so loudly ?

Next, film a dozen or so others from Coburn's state of Oklahoma that have been abused by the insurance and health care system. Show those film clips to a invited group of Oklahoma voters and see if they will still endorse the current broken system.

Educate the public. Shame the uneducated and callous.”

The Abandonment of Generation Obama?

Commented Aug 19, 2009 at 04:16:35 in Politics

“Abandonment of a generation ? I don't see it. Obama is working at a feverish level to advance the cause of insurance/health reform and we are to obsess over a taxi driver in Pittsburgh? I support progressive reform on all fronts but recognize that often, in the climate of our 24 hour news cycle, reform needs to be taken on one issue at a time. Please have patience - if not perspective. President Obama has made great progress in just 6 months on many fronts. He needs our support so as to keep the less informed confident that he is still widely supported. I was in Iowa in December of '07 and my friends are doing fine. We don't hold President Obama personally responsible for our employment.”

“The question that Cheney should be asked during every interview is - "did you authorize the destruction of thousands of emails maintained in your office files, emails that were sought during the Plame investigation?"
Cheney destroyed evidence that would have cast light on these issues and shown him to be the un-American tyrant that he is.”

“Consider that the move of Gregg from Senate to Commerce will result in a republican place holder Senator. Democrats will then get a good shot at winning the seat when it comes up in two years (two years earlier than would normal and without the inc. Gregg).
This will be way to help get a 60+ Dem majority without being accused of political ploy. Obama is doing a good job of getting the administration is place. We need to not worry about every turn in the road. Obama building a foundation for real change.”
