To buy the shotgun you would need to fill out a Federal form 4473 ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Form_4473 ) Which in addition to the cold medicine info requires you to supply your city and state of birth, and answer a number of questions regarding your past: Criminal convictions, military discharge status, mental fitness, intent to transfer the gun, etc.
THEN you would be asked to supply a government issued photo ID (which could be the same driver license you used to purchase the Sudafed) which would need to support the info you supplied on the 4437. The the firearms dealer would phone the FBI administered national instant check system, and verify that the info already in several government databases didn't preclude your purchase.
And that is a minimal red tape best case assuming you live in a State and City that does not impose additional requirements and/or restrictions on firearms purchases.”

“Thanks for the info, last time I bought a gun (years ago), I filled out none of that.”
“So a gun is purchased in violation of one or more laws: Unlicensed dealer, straw purchase, etc. It is then used to violate another law. The solution is obviously yet another law or three at the expense, inconvenience and personal safety of the law abiding, laws that surely that these criminals will heed!”

“no not at all, we just need to make murder illegal because that will solve everything, criminals obey laws right? ;o)”
“Thank you, Ms Warren, for fighting the good fight. Brooksley Born should be involved as well if she is willing to help out with this new agency. After the shellacking she took for predicting the mortgage meltdown, I'd love to see her reputation restored.”
“12) Schedualing conflict: She must be in Lake Woebegon, MN to tape an episode of Guy Noir, Private Eye, and Thursday is the only time Garrison Keillor has free. When Keillor wants you to play a damsel in distress, you just can't blink, ya know!.”
“If McCain isn't coming they need to invite Bob Barr. That will get McCain there, but of course, we can't exactly UN-invite Bobby from the party, now, can we Johnny? Giving air time to the Libritarian candidate will be nails in McCains coffin, which is why he would never agree to a debate that includes Barr, but once McCain breaks his end of th bargain by saying he won't show, all bets are off.”
“It is to laugh. Ethanol subsidies were passed by a republican congress and a republican president influanced by lobbiests of Archer Daniels Midland (big agribuisness) and sold to the gullible conservative base as "helping America's farmers" are what is behind the ethanol-as-fuel industry. One only has to look to Brazil to see the truth. Rich industrial barons getting richer by raping the land to grow cane for ethanol production. Greens and "libruls" are not behind ethanol. Rich industrialists and thier bought-and-paid-for republican puppets in government are.
Apparently as long as a problem can somehow be blamed on "libruls" there is no need to seek truth. Not that happyjoy and like minded sheep are interested in fighting thier own ignorance, but if they were, the first step would be to turn off Rush and Faux "news".
The $ is still WAY down from when the Current chimpanzee in chief took office, "by the way". Next you'll be crowing about how gas is "down" to $3.50/gal.”
“This is WW2 stuff...60 years ago. 20 years before Obama was born. You want all the details to be exctly right? Dream on.
My dad's war consisted of repairing infrastructure (drinking water supplies, mostly) that the Nazi's damaged and destroyed before retreating. He was sent home with a non-combat back injury. To be honest, I have no idea if that happend in Italy, or North Africa...he was both places. And the official records would show that he was a motor-pool mechanic.
His brother (my uncle) was went back after being shot up in the Pacific theater. I'm pretty sure it was at Guadelcanal, but I wouldn't argue if someone presented evidence that it was actually Iwo Jima, and shrapnel wounds rather than bullets.
Getting a detail wrong about something that happened 60 years ago to a tight-lipped vet (I have never met a vet who talked much about the ugly side of war) is a far cry from claiming you personally were subject to sniper fire when nothing close to that ever happened.”

“This is a detail he should have gotten staright. The fact is he did not get the names and events correct, a terrible mistake that does not require interpretation.”
