The Insurance Industry's Lethal Bottom Line -- and a Solution From Sens. Franken and Rockefeller
Commented Dec 06, 2009 at 21:15:50 in Politics
“I sell health insurance. It is a racket. I would much rather sell some supplemental health insurance, to cover medicare gaps at a reasonable or no premium. I am sick of telling a young healthy family of 4 that they have to pay 5-600 dollars for health insurance. It is a national racket that we let happen. Vote out every member of congress that will not vote for reform. This is something the American people should be demanding! Health care can help our economy and let people move on to starting creative businesses. Why are we stalled? I want to be proud again. I like that feeling. We used to be the most creative nation in the world. We are number one at war toys and incarcerat ion....we should be so ashamed of ourselves that we protest the way we did in the 60's”

“So why doesn't corporate American support a single payer health system? Wouldn't this mean companies would no longer be on the hook to provide health coverage to their employees? Could it be because employees would no longer have any reason to remain at dead-end jobs just to keep their health benefits? And force companies to finally compete for qualified workers by offering higher salaries?”

“For Mom, Dad, Nana, and Grandpa,
We wish we could give you more as you have financially helped your younger generations so much.
Unfortunately it is more important that Geithner, Summers, Rham, and Bernack help their buddies first.
We also have to deal with the insurance companies demands on us. They are holding us hostage, and we have to listen to their demands. You know kinda like the doughnut hole you put up with from Pharma. At least some of you in that generation have some pensions to supp your SS. The next few generations don't even know what a pension fund is. We were encouraged to use 401k plans so that the banksters can control us and our future.
Too bad America has no compassion anymore.
We have destroyed ourselves. We are still grateful to you for trying to give Unions and middle class life a shot. My kids will never know what it is like to be able to have one parent work and one parent stay home.
I remember when I was little, we had a home, a car, private school, (by the way they were right next to public school) and we ate franks and beans on Saturday night so you guys could have a date night. (fun for all). We played stick ball in the street without fear and had to be home when the street lights came on. That is a lost culture.”

The Cost of Corporate Communism
Commented Oct 07, 2009 at 15:48:32 in Business
“Why are we using the word recession? Shouldn't depression be used? It will be years before we get out of this. How did we let a few Corporations control us? Why do we not vote? We are all slaves to the corporations. We have lost our voice. A little socialism would do us some good now. For the people! As far as health care I would rather a government for the people, not corporations fat cats decide if I can have a procedure done or not. I think they have worked us so hard that we can't think about where we are going. We work to survive. We have no leisure time, which is healthy. We have no health care which is healthy and we have no say which would be healthy! Why are will still fighting a war. We need to get our voice back and take control of our nation.”

“I totally agree with you harborfish; technically we're in a recession but the effect of it to the average person who has lost their job, their home & their self-esteem is that of a depression. And speaking of such, the use of anti-depressant drugs is way, way up. No wonder.... .the corporations rule the country due to their donations and lobbying efforts and our elected representatives (for the most part) are listening to these special interests and ignoring the will of the people. I want to throw up every time I hear about the "debate" on health care reform. What "debate"? The fix is in and it's due to the $1.4 Million a day being spent by the private insurers and big pharma. This is a very simple issue to correct; just allow Medicare for everyone and to hell with the private companies; why should us citizens care whether or not these companies earn a profit at our expense? If Reagan hadn't promoted HMO's way back when, these companies wouldn't exist anyway! Finally, if we can't solve this easily-solvable problem, where the hell are we on the other important issues of the day? Screwed, that's where!”
