A Line in the Sand Against Beck

“keep up this great work. You have my support and I will pass this along. While the right rants and raves the left has a tendency to assume the country is sane. It is not and we all have to pitch in to keep the discussion honest. Thanks again.”

Joseph Lieberman To Headline Upcoming Pastor Hagee Summit

“For one thing it points out the fact that "Jews" are no more homogenous than "whites" "women" "blacks", etc. As a baby boomer main-stream American Jew, Lieberman is an embarrassment to me and most of my colleagues. As are bigoted ultra-orthodox Jews. It is part of a deep, internal struggle within the Jewish community. In the eyes of Hitler we are all the same, but in our own eyes and in the eyes of anyone with a brain, we are all quite different.

The idea that the evangelical support of Israel is "good" in that it funnels tons of money through private donations to Israel, is obviously a difficult subject. The Israelis are not dumb and are happy to have the money. On the other hand, the ideology is so bizarre, that in the long run it is wiser to cut and run.”

“"In the eyes of Hitler we are all the same, but in our own eyes and in the eyes of anyone with a brain, we are all quite different."

Your trenchant observation puts Lieberman in an even worse light. Hagee's perverted theology sees Jews exactly as Hitler did: you are all the same. The Rapture can't occur, in Hagee's view, until the Jews are back in their homeland. His beliefs don't account for the differences among you, or even your basic humanity. As far as Hagee is concerned, just as long as you're all back "home" so you can be cast into the lake of fire while he and his fellow fanatics rise up to heaven, it's all good.”

“Figures, thanks, Conn.

If the Isreali's would stop stealing Palestianian land, bulldozing centuries old olive trees, farms and homes without notice and without paying for any of it, the conflict would cease.
Isreal screams about rockets and war but no one ever talks about their governmental policies.”

It's 3 a.m. and Hillary's Dreaming

“Must not have been that big of a movement if it can be stymied by some negative campaigning by the Clintons. The Democratic Party is split on this one. Hilary is playing politics just like everyone else. If the roles were reversed Obama might be doing the same thing. Say what you will but it is exciting, sit back support who you want and hope for the best. In spite of all the rhetoric being flung around here they both are superior people who have a huge base of support. To write off either side as hindering, subverting or irrelevent to the process is doing a disservice to our political system. Believe it or not folks this kind of thing has been going on in elections for hundreds of years and in some cases a lot more nasty then the "evil" Clintons have ever come up with. "We did not start the fire"”

Hillary and Britney: Of Caucuses and Carcasses

Commented Feb 18, 2008 at 17:30:09 in Politics

“are you suggesting that Clinton would be doing better if she were a male? Or is it possible that her approach, her ideas and her views are what may matter? It seems to me that Obama scores on his vision, not on the fact that he is male and she is female.”
Why Do I Feel Sorry For Hillary?

Why Do I Feel Sorry For Hillary?

“Odd little post. I'm a white male middle aged doctor. If I tell a fat patient to lose weight, they usually don't "like me". The intelligent ones get what I'm saying. The others go and find a doctor who will tell them what they want to hear. Same for the smokers, non-exercisers, the ones who won't go get a mammogram or colonoscopy, etc. Gee, if I just told them all "nice" things, they'd all "like" me and I'd be a huge success. Or a hippocrite or panderer. Sorry if I'm stretching the analogy here.

I support Obama. Hillary is duplicitous.”

VillyVal replied on Feb 14, 2008 at 13:11:31

“I think you've confused your own hypocrisy with your Hippocratic oath. Since 95% of people who try to lose weight fail, often repeatedly, what are you trying to accomplish? Maybe, just maybe your "white male middle-aged" doctoring is doing more harm than good. Just maybe your self-serving diagnosis of "duplicity" in your patients is as misguided and uninformed as your diagnosis of Hillary's "duplicity"?
Maybe you're not "a big success" because you are unable or unwilling to analyze patients or politicians beyond the boundaries of your own limited empathy and understanding.
You're not STRETCHING the analogy: you haven't drawn an analogy.”

LoloZ replied on Feb 14, 2008 at 12:52:04

“Great analogy. My husband is a family physician, and he says the same thing. And duplicitous describes Hillary Clinton to a t.”
