“Yes I do know; since I am an engineer and I know what it costs for things to go into production. I went and got prescription strength hydrocortisone creme in Nogales Mexico for $8; and a tube here was $35 at the time. It worked just as good as the $35 creme and I didn't even need a prescription there to get it. Also; why do Canadians pay less at their pharmacies; when their drugs are made by the same company? There is some greed involved. I'd feel just as safe buying an Rx for much less at a Canadian pharmacy.”

zipowitz on Dec 9, 2013 at 17:51:22

“You know how much it may cost to put things into production but imagine the years of testing in labs, on animals etc. before you even get to humans and then heaven forbid one gets a sniffle during the trials and you have to start over or end it. Now imagine during 100's of those before you get one that works. That Hydrocortisone you got on the cheap had to be testing and trialed before it got approved in the first place and now some hack is producing it on the cheap in Mexico where they can't sue. In addition, Canadian pharma has a far lower liability cost then the U.S., thank a lawyer for that one and then blame them for why you need prescriptions for everything nowadays. And Canada limits how much can be spent on drugs.

But don't get me wrong, we pay a lot for what we do get and that's a part of why insurance is so high but don't put all the blame on big pharma as it costs billions to do what they do and we benefit from it. Also blame our cost of living for why they charge more.”

“Pharma companies are making outrageous profits. No other country on this planet charges more for Rx drugs than the US consumer pays. Why is that?”

“Do you have ANY idea how much money it takes to even get a drug approved here in the US? Do you know how many fail yet take millions of dollars to even get close to being approved? And then there are those that get approved and when someone get's a pimple they get sued. I highly doubt you have ANY clue as to how this process works. Do you want drugs that were approved in China or here in the U.S.? Oh and then after it takes 100's of millions and years of testing to get approved, some generic drug maker can copy it. It would be safe to guess that you think it's greed and you lack any knowledge of how the process works.”

“Lots of things were considered junk and of no value then suddenly became "classics". I remember back in the late 70s when someone was trying to sell a 67 mustang convertible that was sitting there not running;getting rusty. They couldn't give away and was asking $100 just to get rid of it. Now; its a classic and worth thousands of $ in the same condition today. No one knew they would become classics; they were just considerd junk back then. I also remember them using a lot of Lincoln continental-suicide door cars in demolition races at Sante Fe Speedway in Willow Springs IL. Ruined a lot of "classic" cars there because they were considered junk back then as well.”

“Yeah; but what about after all that wears off; you been married 10 years; you don't even have anything in common to talk about anymore and you live like room mates. Then what? All those things mentioned are temporary feelings. Then you are back to reality.”

mullinsmry on Dec 5, 2013 at 00:02:48

“Temporary they might be for some. However, I'm living proof that all nine of these ways falling in love makes us do strange things are factual. I suffer chronic excruciating nerve pain that resulted after surgery for removal of a brain tumor from my brain stem. The pain is very much like that described by patients with MS. When I met that man who I fell so deeply in love with, being in love alleviated my pain in ways that fentanyl patch (80 x's stronger than morphine) Gabapentin, Amitriptyline, and other high powered pain medications could not do. I feel sorry for the many who have commented negatively to the article. It's evident that they've never experienced TRUE LOVE. Unfortunately, they are not alone. Being in love and being loved in return is truly the greatest gift in this life.”

But seriously, if Puerto Rico were allowed to withhold Medicaid, Social Security, ACA and their import/export taxes for one year after statehood, they could theoretically be solvent. $4billion dollars of their own money "saved" would go a long way. Just a theory.”

Raptor2u on Dec 2, 2013 at 11:05:40

“Flailing economy? So is the economy in Mississippi. So is West Virginia's economy. So is Washington DC. We don't tell those citizens to go get on your feet first - then come back and you can be citizens again. Puerto Rico pumps over 4billion into the U.S. economy every year. They are citizens.
We bailed out GM and Chrysler and Lehman Brothers and AIG and Wells Fargo and mortgaged backed security firms, TARP firms, insurance companies and Big Banks, Detroit city, CitiGROUP and Countrywide and... Like Mitt Romney says, these "corporations are people my friend".
But according to you, the American people who happen to be Puerto Rican living on that island must wait and get on their feet first before they receive a hand up or before they're considered a state?
Ok, I see.”

“She does have a job and works everyday. You are missing the point. There is a large segment of the population that does not have the apititude for college or higher advancement education. How can they survive if you don't pay them a wage that has not kept up with inflation from the 1970s? That is my point. I was able to live on my own since I was 19 years old; I had my own apt and a new car payment. I made an equivalent of about $20/hr in todays dollars. Now do you see how out of whack wages are to inflation?”

rw1018 on Nov 27, 2013 at 10:42:53

“And there are a lot of jobs that pay more than minimum wage that don't require a degree. You can drive a bus and make more than minimum wage. You can work for the phone company and make more than minimum wage. You can do customer service from home and make more than minimum wage. American Express pays more than minimum wage, and they have an office in Phoenix. But you have to want it.”

“There are too many rich spoiled brat kids out here that don't care; they have rich parents to make up the difference in wages.. Also many desperate housewife types that have rich husbands and work just for spa money. They don't care what they make; so it ruins it for those that really need to earn the money. That is also why the wages are so much lower here. Add in all the snow birds that come in part time just to live here during the winter; taking cheap part time jobs; they don't need the money either.”

When was the last time your lazy stepdaughter sent out a resume? Here's a start for her. As for you it sounds like you have a bit of envy for someone that has worked hard to make themselves successful. Sounds like your family just doesn't care, and they are looking for you to make up the difference.”
