“What has become of those snarling parents?”

“Healing; they grew up to have familys of their own. I went on a business trip to Little Rock back in 1996, we asked the person assigned to my group to take us on a tour of the city, I asked him to take me to see that high school because there was so much history there. He gave us some details of the school's history aside of that ugly scene, then he told the group that the woman in the front snarling at Elizabeth and spitting at her was his aunt! The minibus went silent, I asked what ever happened to her; he said that she regrets that day and has since apologized to Elizabeth and has met with her several times, but that picture livess on in history.”

“"Traditionally we have been instructed to avoid pain and grief, more so in our culture that almost deifies pleasure. However, grief and suffering allow us to glimpse another person's vulnerability and provide a window of opportunity for us to empathize and make another step towards healing conversations."
