The ABC headline is: “Two al Qaeda Leaders Behind Northwest Flight 253 Terror Plot Were Released by U.S.” But this is misleading because ABC News doesn’t cite any evidence that concretely ties the two former detainees to Abdulmutallab.
One of the two individuals identified turned himself into Saudi Arabia last month and the other was supposed killed by a US airstrike in Yemen earlier in the Month. Its possible that both individuals may have known about the Christmas plot at some point but this story shows no evidence of a relationship between these two guys and Abdulmutallab.”

“I've read some of the "evidence memos" on these guys and they had enough to question them but their release was not out of line. So while the Bush administration definitely takes the blame for this they did what many called for - releasing prisoners who were not obviously terrorists or who did not have obvious terrorist connections.”
