“I feel you! I bring home $1600 net, $1250 goes to rent, $200 for Gas & Electric, $219 every three months for water & sewage. Most landlords in Maryland who rent houses have their tenants pay for water and upkeep. And no, I don't live in an upscale neighborhood.”

“But sometimes the other person lashes out and harasses you. It's extremely nerve wracking not knowing when they are going to wreck havoc with their toxic manipulative behavior. One day they tell you you mean the world to them and they beg you to respond on their time because it's too much to ask for some space. Then when you insist on some space once more, they assassinate your character and mail you everything you gave them as a gift back. All I asked for was some space. I wasn't even ending things. But I was left no choice but to block this person.”

“This is one of the many reasons I hate my father. When I took out loans to get my master's degree, he bought a $20,000 boat. I resent him. He is the biggest self serving narcissist. Oh it goes further than that- it was only my mom who did anything for birthdays and Christmas. He's always buying himself toys- ATVs, snowmobiles and building pole barns to store them while they collect dust. He has never done anything for me. I grew up begging my mom to divorce him. I used to cry on father's day because I wanted a better father. I would get jealous of friends who has nice fathers. I refused to dance with him at my wedding.”

“You are exactly the reason they still feel that way. Some people (victims of bullying) are sensitive to unempathetic people. And that is perfectly fine. People are entitled to their own feelings. Telling someone to 'move on' clearly illustrates the best method to invalidate others. Comparing your experience and your ability to overcome the past is also immature. It is the reason why there is so much hatred in this world. It is good that you were able to 'get over' your experiences, but putting those down that haven't is spiteful and in itself, a form of bullying. It's fairly common that victims turn into bullies.”

“A lot of people now need to choose between health care and student loans. Either way it's a catch 22. If you get health care, your loans go into default and you could lose your job and any chance of attaining a job in the future. If you pay your student loans and for health care, you get a fine and run the risk of getting sick or injured and running up large bills which you can't pay for. Also you could lose your job. It's a lose lose. Or it could be worse. You can get disabled before graduating college and are unable to pay student loans and qualify for health care and disability. If only I was able to get a spinal fusion. I would have had 5 years that I could have spent working, paying back my student loans and making a contribution to society. If only I was born in Europe. My life would have been dramatically different.”

“Well it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure this one out. Let's say the average 25 year old recently graduated from college with 28k in student loan debt and makes $10 an hour. After taxes they are making $300 a week. That person lives in a suburb/city and pays $800 monthly in rent, $300 car payment and gas, $150 food (yes for a month!), ....opps already out of money. Student loan payments are deferred with interest capitalizing, meals are skipped, you are applying for HEAP, putting that root canal and brake job on a credit card, no cell phone and employer is upset, IRS is charging late fees, clothes have ripped, holes in shoes but can't buy new ones and somehow this average young person is supposed to cough up $200 a month for health care that they still can't have access to (forget about affording co-pays!) Fast forward 5 years and nothing has changed. Not a single thing. It's like being on a hamster wheel. People should be angry! I sure as hell am! BTW this is coming from someone who needs a spinal fusion in order to work. It's a catch 22. If I had healthcare, I could work. But you need to work to get health care. Imagine all of the tax revenue this country could get if people could go back to work after getting health care. The way Obama set this up - it's not working.”

Working a 40 hour minimum wage job is not enough to put food on the table. The stock market is doing great though- except people fail to realize that 85% of stocks are owned by the wealthy. So the rich are really the only one's getting richer. Everyone else's wages have been stagnant since the 80s.”

“Be careful who you are authentic around. Only be authentic with those who are empathetic and emotionally mature (they know how to express healthy emotions). A lot of people respond to someone who is expressing their emotions by being angry.

The best thing you can do is to find a way to heal- through validating yourself without needing it from others. There is a book that I'm reading (that I've heard rave reviews from) called "The Presence Process." Another one which may be helpful if you suffer from having a narcissistic parent is called "Will I ever be good enough." This one I am currently reading and am finding it extremely enlightening. It goes into perfectionism and workaholism being the result of having a narcissist parent.”

“Narcissists (I'm saying the personality disorder- not the social term that people throw around) are cruel, heartless people who only have two emotions- anger and fear. They do not feel shame or guilt. They are truly antisocial. It is far from perfectionism. Narcissism (the social term) is a quality that everyone has. There's a wide spectrum. The real way to tell when someone is a pathological narcissist is to observe the lack of empathy for others.

I think you are right about both being obsessed with themselves. Narcissists and perfectionists (aka. children of narcissists) both did not receive nurturing from their parents. They were not loved. They didn't have a childhood. They spent their entire lives proving themselves worthy of receiving love. It becomes an obsession. Internally, there emotional landscape is completely different though.”

“This is a brilliant article. It truly resonates and reinforces a book I am currently reading about the daughters of narcissists. If you have a parent who is a narcissist, you surely suffer from this affliction. You will also have difficulty with all of your relationships in your life.

A word of warning though: only show emotional authenticity around those who are empathetic. I cannot stress this enough. If you wear your feelings on a string around other narcissists or perfectionists, all you will get is invalidation and rejection. Honestly there are few people out there who can handle emotional authenticity. Most people lack the skills to express their feelings in a healthy manner so they won't understand you at all. Then what happens is you fall into a deeper depression feeling like you are never in a safe environment to express your feelings. The solution is to find a way to heal - to be able to validate your own feelings without needing approval or validation from others.”

“My husband used to earn $15 an hour and now he earns $10. $10 is not enough to live on. We only have $150 to spend on food a month which means we skip meals. When he was earning $15 an hour we could eat 3 meals a day and have health insurance. He would pay his monthly student loan payments. We could celebrate Birthdays and have Christmas. We could have a plain cell phone. We didn't need to borrow money for gas or rent. It was just enough to barely get buy. None of those things we can do with him earning $10 an hour. With $10 and hour we are growing by the month in debt that is owed to the IRS, the electric company, student loans, my family, etc. It isn't enough to live on. I don't know how we will continue to have an economy when people can't even buy necessities.”
