Why This Progressive Is Sticking By the Tax on Insurance Companies
Commented Jan 07, 2010 at 17:01:45 in Politics
“After raising premiums on everyone else to the point where people will spit out George Carlin's 7 famous words (and a bunch of others, which would have made Carlin blush), people might cancel, the insurance industry falls, and these vultures who ate the golden goose have to cannibalize their own proverbial omelets.
Symbiosis. "You need us and we need us". They can't exist without us.
or is that parasitism? :-D”

Are You An Informed Patient?
Commented Dec 29, 2009 at 13:32:15 in Living
“Are doctors informed? That's a valid question.
Once they peg a patient as something, to try to convince them otherwise, with every fact in the book, does nothing. or even consider other possibilities.
I loved being misdiagnosed with (won't name it here). As a result, the actual problem - a disc pressing into my spinal cord remained undiagnosed for a considerable period of time.
Amongst other issues, but doctors are increasingly overpaid for the conditions they freely hand out... along with the pills with the cool side-effects. Including weight gain, might I add...”

“Hi 72, Your comment reminded me of trouble I had with a doctor when I developed repetitive motion injuries in my hands. The doctor refused to recognize why both hands were affected - because he didn't understand how dentistry is performed. When I persisted, he dx'd me with hysteria, as well. I wonder how many men are dx'd with hysteria because an MD is too arrogant to admit ignorance.
I fired him. I have had to cut my hours by 50% (at my age I'm slowing down anyway, but the cut in income hurts).
From your past comments, you've faced things I can't imagine having the bravery to do. Please don't think I believe my experience is equivalent to yours - only that I know what its like for an old lady like me with an education in health science to be BSd by an MD. It knots my knickers, too.”

Offshoring does more to hurt the middle class.
And we bail out the car companies who do it. On top of the usual "government subsidy".
The President wants us all to do our part. We get higher education, we buy cleaner automobiles w/higher MPG, and he just wants to continue offshoring.
On the plus side, that will eventually mean congress goes broke. Corporate lobbyists can't fund them forever and the congresspeople can't keep giving themselves raises forever.
They really need to think of America and not the "multinationals". America, on top of everything else, shouldn't be held responsible for the national debt if the debt wasn't accrued for their sake. We are not in the top 1% and everything congress does seems to benefit the corporations. Let THEM pay. We're fatigued from being fleeced.”

Michael Moore (who may otherwise be right or wrong) is having great fun bashing capitalism by going around the world to countries with high suicide rates and saying how he admires them, and other forms of patronizing so he can get them to watch his movie: http://www .japanprob e.com/2009 /12/03/mic hael-moore -in-japan/ #comment-3 88988 The irony is too obvious NOT to mention.
Also, not to mention they are "multinational corporations" and not "American corporations", so it is NOT the "American way". But what he does is for money, not education. If he did care, he would be on our streets leading a revolution instead of whining that if people didn't start a revolution that he'd quit making movies. http://cur rent.com/i tems/91072 412_moore- if-theres- no-revolut ion-i-quit .htm (gee Mike, maybe that's why you're losing influence? But all of this is entertainment, a concept defined as "Something to relieve the stress of real life". Equally ironic; entertainment now has people shoveling real life back at its audiences.
I ought to see the movie. Maybe it is genuinely good.”

Don't Kill the Health Reform Bill - Improve It
Commented Dec 22, 2009 at 17:10:47 in Politics
“With big companies like GM, before 2009, whining how insurance costs were killing their profits, forcing companies to cover workers won't help much - especially if there are no cost controls.
I have a feeling this "reform" simply isn't, and will do more to harm our economy.
"Single payer" or "public option" would do far more good to lift the burden for companies, the workers, everybody. Otherwise it's just gearing up to be a free "money for nothing" giveaway to large insurance companies. (so much for "competition lowers costs")”
