Polanski's Release From Prison

Commented Nov 27, 2009 at 11:00:35 in Entertainment

“Polanski bought his release with offers of large amounts of money. He can't bear to be in prison. This is not a victory for him. He still has to face the unsolved charge against him. He should be extradited to the US as soon as possible. Injustice? Hardly.”

“I totally agree. This is a major security breach. It is not amusing or cute. It is stupid. Why weren't they arrested? Why wasn't security checking who was entering? It is a state dinner for god's sake. If these two yahoos can get in for reality shows I don't want to think about the other possibilities. White House staff smarten up.”

“Yes, but he crossed the line for the type of show he was doing. It cost him appearances. George Michael is a perfect example. Great singer but his gay lifestyle has hurt him. Boy George too. So for Lambert it will be a fine line as to what is acceptable and what isn't.”

SpringDoc replied on Nov 25, 2009 at 14:16:37

“It cost him 1 appearance, not multiple. He was picked up by CBS, for the same time slot and later on Lettermen, tonight. So is it really a loss.
Losing an appearance on ABC, is like losing an appearance on Fox, as ABC is 1-heart beat away from being a Fox network. So really no loss.
His performance on CBS was great.”

“Madonna once had one of her dancers go under her skirt. She was wearing a Marie Antoinette type dress. Homoerotica is still not acceptable during prime time. Many of these performances are too riske given that the show is targeted to young people. Mr Lambert is loving the attention I am sure.”

“IrishKevin, I agree. FIFA, don't tell me about Fair Play and then allow this terrible outcome. It was a hand ball and two players were offside. Get the technology to review the plays if the field officials miss obvious violations. It is done in the US for the NFL and it addresses these issues quickly and fairly.”

Oh what great fun!”

“When we first got email the basic rule was do not post anything that could get you into trouble. Keep your opinions to yourself. And never, ever send emails from work that are not work related. They later even sent us rules about talking about work-related matters outside the work environment. Employees should remember that the phones and computers at work track everything you do. Behave or else.”

It was no different, AFAIC, than writing a letter on paper at school and dropping it in the school's outbound mail. Basically, he owes them a stamp.”

Why Is Rupert Murdoch So Clueless About Fox News?

Commented Nov 18, 2009 at 09:48:37 in Media

“I don't believe that RM is clueless at all. You don't get to where he is by being stupid. He is clever as all get out. Maybe he is talking to his core audience so he dumbs it down. Their attitude all is we didn't do anything wrong no matter what the criticism. We just give the people what they want or what we think they should get. It is a very successful formula. Lies and manipulation-that should be their motto.”

“Thirty thousand for a "lifetime" of prosthetics? Ridiculous. The policy was too low and the insurance company knew it. Frankly they should be charged with fraud. Myo-electric arms are rather expensive but that is what he will eventually need for a properly functioning arm with hand. Make the insurance company revise the policy. Another disgusting example of how heartless and cruel insurance companies are.”
Janet Jackson: Dr. Conrad Murray

Janet Jackson: Dr. Conrad Murray "Is Responsible" For Michael's Death

Commented Nov 16, 2009 at 15:19:44 in Entertainment

“Ms Jackson, my only question is why did your brother seek out a doctor who would do whatever he wanted regardless of the medical risks? Several people came forward after his death to say that they warned him that the drugs he wanted were dangerous and not for the purpose he intended. I also understand that he rebuffed family attempts to deal with his drug issues. In a direct sense that doctor "is responsible". But your brother chose him because he didn't say no to anything. He shopped until he found what he wanted. Most unfortunate.”

SC341 replied on Nov 19, 2009 at 23:40:08

“At the very least Dr. Murray should lose his license to practice medicine. He was negligent. This will not bring MJ back but it may save other people's lives since this doctor is obviously incompetent.”

“The customer jumped the line and anyone already waiting in line would ask her to wait her turn. She over reacted but given where she was and her race, I don't blame her. The charges against her are excessive. She was rude and then resisted arrest. The maximum sentence is rarely applied. If she has to go court because she can't make a deal, it might be harder for her to make this go away. Good luck.”

“The internet is full of all kinds of pictures that were obviously taken without the knowledge of those captured. Most victims are women. Many of the shots are taken at nude beaches, and other public areas. If you go to a nude beach does that mean you can be photographed without your consent? Frankly, it shouldn't. If someone stands below the stairs and takes pictures under your dress as you ascend is that legal? I don't think so. We now have all this technology which is capable of all kinds of intrusion that most of us don't think about unless it effects us directly. Or we see something in the news like teens being charged with pornography for sexting. As a society we have a lot of catching up to do. Our privacy was stolen ages ago and has to be retaken and sorted out properly.”

“The eye in the sky is for real now. So if you sunbathe in the nude in your backyard you become eye candy for anyone who cares to peep. Google is not that great. In Toronto they put the CN Tower in the wrong spot. Torontonians were miffed. Hey did they put the Eiffel Tower in the wrong place? No. But the Swiss have a point. If you are on your property you should be entitled to privacy. Aren't you? It is an interesting feature but it is intrusive. Unless there is a security issue it should be scaled back for general users of Google.”

Joe Lieberman Filibusters Health Care While Americans Suffer

Commented Nov 12, 2009 at 19:54:51 in Politics

“Yes, MrMike you are free to suffer in freedom. Do you have medical insurance? If you do, are lucky. I hope that you are in good health. But let's see what happens if you need serious medical care. The insurance company might suddenly decide that your illness isn't covered. You'll be free to scramble to get health insurance. But you won't qualify because of a pre-existing condition. Your government is interferring with your freedom to help you when you get sick. How dare they!”

“This is so sad. Sometimes a depression is so intractable that despite learning that his illness was treatable he was beyond hope. My condolences to his family and fans.”

dawlishgal replied on Nov 11, 2009 at 10:09:27

“Depression IS treatable, but that doesn't mean that it is no longer a problem to those who suffer from it. . My husband was bipolar, and each medication or combinations of medications worked for a while, then failed and something else had to be tried. It was 30 years of trial and error, and no medications worked for very long.

When he was no longer able to work, he thought he had great disability insurance, but he soon found out that both of his insurers were trying to make up stuff in order to cheat him. He qualified for benefits from his policies in every way possible, but they tried to change the rules on him. One said that there was a two-year limit on mental illness benefits, even though his policy contained no such limits. The other one tried to average 100% mental illness disability and 50% cardiac disability and get 75% disability (ie disqualify him from benefits) . Different disabilities are supposed to be additive, and I am sure they knew it; they just hoped he wouldn't know it. His employer fought for the benefits, and he eventually got them, but people ought to be warned about how big insurance operates when big claims are involved.

This is why we need single payer. Insurance companies have proven that they can't be trusted. They are willing to say and do anything to avoid paying large legitimate claims.”
