“Dirty Dancing makes me smile. I taught at a boarding school in CA about 6 month after it was released in theaters. I bought a copy when it came out. Four of my kids, ages 7-12, begged to see the film. I thought that playing monopoly that night was a better idea, but, I told them that they could watch it if no one else knew. They loved it and imitated the energy for a week. So, that is why it makes me smile. It made them smile.”
“The Universe does not care about who makes love to whom. It cares about nature. Humankind has rules for civilization. Things change with time. Loving another human is not a sin/crime. And, yes, humankind serves more than one god. Usually, we have several.”
“Great post. A friend and I also considered the idea of 72 virgins in heaven. Who provides the 72 virgins? After you devirginize the 72, are they passed on to the next recipient? If you go out to eat, do you take the 72 along? What virgin goes first? Etc., etc, etc.!
Personally, just as human longevity is not attractive for a lot of years beyond a hundred, heaven that was sold as a package to me in the Bible belt was boring, if not a bit psychotic in nature.
Thus, rationality is being discussed wonderful. Losing out on having to be with my family , priceless”

“Actually, they get one, 72 year old virgin. EEWWWW!”
“Wow, the words of the Bible have been used by humankind to scare and control the actions of others for years. So, who cares what this book of translations, some poetry, and other assorted viewpoints says?
Some people on this tread see to be afraid of questioning this book. I say that if there is God, he has a sense of humor every time the messages taken out of context, a thousand years old, and sometimes poorly written becomes a weapon of control.”

“Yes Sir I fully agree with you! That book and all the other mumbo jumbo religions were created to scare, enslave and warp the minds of the people that subscribe to them. God is not to be feared the religious zealots are the ones to be feared!”
“Mr/Rev: Graham: Your behavior you displayed on this show reflects back onto your father. He had some issues with racism and recognition of rationality, but how can you do this to his legacy. Overall, your role model, Dr. Billy Graham, knew that questioning a faith of a President in office, is, at best extremely questionable and salacious.”

“Perhaps Billy was smart enough to know where the power is. He would not have criticized a president, past or president. Franklin needs attention, and like his friend Santorum, knows the quickest way to that end is to lie about President Obama.”

“Rev. Billy got blinded by fame and fortune occasionally as well. I lost all faith in him the night I saw him hugging Nixon. (That was before THE FALL--during N's last election campaign.)”
“Rather an insult to Weisel, but he has experienced much worst. Just a silly ritual that can cause consternation for others in another religious organization. Get out of others peoples' religions! Pay attention to your own and yours.”
“There are a lot of issues here that will be debated endlessly in popular and research literature on what a partner/spouse should/should not do when the one they love is diagnosed with some form of dementia (there about 105 forms of dementia). It drives marriages, families, and sibling apart forever. It scares a lot of people because of their own issues with mortality.
My mother was misdiagnosed with dementia due to a UTI infection that included only 3 days of delusional behaviors. She bounced back to live 4 years with full mental capacity, no dementia. But, the damage to our nuclear family will last. She died a month ago, but, because some of my siblings stole her house and forced her into Assisted Living using deception, I cannot personally accept their unspeakable acts of financial and emotional elder abuse.
My sister and I got her out of assisted living and she lived independently for four years, but, again, the damage to her, my sister, and I will be forever a source of pain.
So, when any doctors/PA's diagnose and use the word dementia, be careful out there. People use situations to enrich themselves. So, whether you elect to take care of someone with dementia will really reflect on your character. Also, seeking love and affection outside of a relationship during the waning years is really no one else's business. Makes sense to me.”
“I understand missing a funeral. I deliberately did not go to my mother's funeral. My immediate family is laced with hatred, racism, and hypocrisy. I held my own memorial where she had lived for 4 years across the US.
“In the USA, we are egotistical about death. Also, a lot of the rhetoric about aging has the same quality. We are going to be "active seniors" or "the new 40 is the real 60"! We believe that we, Americans, should escape some of the same fate as the world population. WE are indeed, the "ugly American" in some of our concepts and habits,.”

“Very true. I dunno about other people, and frankly I don't care about them, particularly the ones who "demand" other people listen to them lecturing in grocery stores about "idiots" who have their coffees made with "demon" whole milk or "Why Meat Will Kill You". "Health Habits" seems to be the New God, even to those who admit there isn't anything "out there". I'm leaning towards the idea that the "Empire Bred" just feel they have more reason to live and are "entitled" to carefree, "clean and healthy" lives that will lead to their being active and brain-sharp. Considering I live in a town whose economy relies on the Health Care field, we have a LOT of "false messiahs". Mostly they're trying to convince themselves they'll outlive the rest of us, and are shocked and horrified when the rest us of shrug and say we're ready to go at any moment, or that people are selfish for wanting to live beyond what nature intends. When they don't have answers, it always goes back to , "Well, God decides, not you." Adding validity to Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson's "God is the god of gaps" mosaic. It still amazes and disgusts me that death is an "enemy".”
“It never did. But I am finding that more people are frightened and in fact stunned and confused by anyone with a "wait and see" attitude about death. They get downright hostile when you tell them that you are ready to go at any point, so if it happens tomorrow, no big deal. Proof positive to me at least, that Americans feel they have some sort of "right" to live longer, and even "disease free" than other humans. I've always found that shocking, egotistical and down right stupid. But now they tend to spew those views openly after having said the same all along and denying their own belief that it's true. Confusing, but funny and ridiculous to me anyway.”
