The Obama Double Standard

Commented Aug 20, 2009 at 19:12:11 in Politics

“President Obama's Chief of Staff is responsible for the recruitment of many Blue Dogs and the DLC financed many of their campaigns. As a financial supporter of the DLC prior to the 2008 election I believe my money was well spent. Socially liberal, fiscally conservative members of congress represent me well.
If Mr Obama is remaining loyal to the Blue Dog Coalition I believe it is a sign of maturity and illustrates a good grasp of the politics.”

“I hope all the Blue Dog supporters want to give him donations and work to get him elected.

I won't donate a dime or 1 phone call.

DocTwain replied on Aug 20, 2009 at 20:57:57

“Blue Dogs aren't fiscal conservatives, they're plutocrats.

A fiscal conservative is someone who wants a balanced budget and doesn't want the government to waste taxpayers' money.A plutocrat is someone who twists government into an instrument for market-gaming and profit-taking and transferring wealth from workers into the pockets of the industrial cartels and the ultra-rich who own them. Plutocrats pretend to be fiscal conservatives, but vote for tax cuts for the rich, refuse to raise taxes on the wealthy, create plutocratic graft schemes like Medicare Part D and Medicare Advantage to pervert efficient government programs and corrupt them to funnel tax dollars to the cartels.

Plutocrats start unnecessary wars on the basis of lies to increase the profits of the war cartel.
A majority of Americans believe Iraq and Afghanistan are a waste of our resources. We are pouring another $130 billion in tax dollars down the ratholes of the war cartel, and for what?

No one who opposes single payer can claim to be a fiscal conservative.
We pay twice as much per capita as most European countries while denying 50 million of our people health insurance. Why do we have this problem? Because the parasitic private health insurance cartel costs sucks $400 billion a year in plutocratic waste and graft. http://www.pnhp.org Why do Blue Dogs want health care to cost more for ordinary Americans? Why do they want to use taxdollars to pay graft to the cartels?”

Paying for these programs should done by reducing the budget for hardware designed for the ground wars of the past. Investment in our future operatives has the potential for far greater returns.”

“As one who opposed "Federal Aid to Education" legislation in the 1950s and early 1960s I have been vindicated.
The involvement in public education by the federal government has been the primary cause of the decline in the quality of public education. The "let someone else pay for it" syndrome has allowed local citizens through their school boards to abdicate their responsibilities to provide a meaningful education.”

We need to focus on reducing or eliminating cold war hardware and improve the training and equipping of Special Forces. Our future security is in the hands of the intelligence services our abliity to utilize new technologies.”

“Sounds reasonable. They also need to reform the actual contracting and bidding process, the cost-plus arrangement is simply an invitation to run up expenses.”

Erdgeist replied on Apr 06, 2009 at 12:54:05

“This is only rational. Much the same, President Eisenhower, during the 50s when most of the heavy lifting in defense was being done by the Air Force, cut back on the Army and the Navy/Marines.

More fundamental, Eisenhower never believed that all three branches should get an equal portion which is the wasteful policy we have these days.

Now that the Army and the Navy/Marines are doing the heavy lifting, the Air Force should take huge cuts so we can rebuild the other forces.”

“You are mostly right. The real guilty parties are the employers of undocumented workers.
To end the practice it will be necessary to levy very heavy fines on those employers. Those fines should be dedicated to a system to humanely return all undocumented persons to their country of origin.

Any undocumented person with an outstanding warrant should be detained and given a trail and punished if guilty. Millions of jobs in the US can be retained by removing those undocumented workers from the workforce.”

“Yes. The DLC/Lieberman/Clinton/Cuomo faction is alive and well. We will have to be patient and see what President Obama really has in store for them. He has already beaten them -- with a surgeon's skill. And, unlike the sledgehammer the classless David Paterson used against Caroline Kennedy -- the DLC wing should not be fooled by his diplomacy he even extends to Republicans.

David Paterson has chosen the DLC faction. Methinks he (the people around him aka HRC's NYC PR spinners) made the wrong choice. However, hope springs eternal...for the never say die DLC. They will just morph into Independents w/Joe Lieberman -- until they are so far Right they become Rockefeller Republicans like Ms. Gillebrand from Upstate.

Insecure David Paterson wanted no competition on the horizon, so he chose a Republican-lite, which is the only thing that can make him look good in two years after the tax increases we are going to get. Cuomo has nuked himself by participating in this fiasco. In short, David got the Kennedys and Cuomos to nuke eachother -- and the bad taste will end their political hopes to challenge him.

Unfortunately for David -- this isn't our new President's kind of politics. It would have been perfect circa 1979, however. He could have raised money at Studio 54.”
