“But they are following the Christ of the Bible. If you believe that the Christ described by the book dictated by God himself is some peace loving, gentle, compassionate holy spirit, you simply have not read the Bible.

Religion, not being base on fact or evidence, is completely malleble, and people mold it to fit whatever hatreds and prejudices that they happen to have or develop.”

“Well ofcourse, the Bible was put together to futher the idiology of those claiming to be the Church, and for their benefit. Most Christian dogma doesn't exist in the Bible. Religion itself is a political, economic, and social mechanism. Spirituality, on the other hand, without the institutional structure, and simply the beliefs, is truer to the original intent of the message.”

“Your statements about the theory of evolution of man are completely and utterly wrong. These statements are indicate your are completely uninformed about the science of evolution.

Your comments about science being base on faith indicate you no understanding of how science works, and what constitutes evidence.

Would the cave art, tools, burial mounds, and other artifacts of Cro Magnon or Neanderthal man not consitute recorded history that pre dates the Bible?

The Bible is an asurdly stupid book that comprehends virtually nothing about the world that existed at the times it was written. The authors knew nothing about the Asian, African or American civilizations that preceeded them, let alone co-existed with them. Some revelation. They didn't even understand that the moon rotated around the earth and the earth rotated around the sun. Something that the Sumerians had figured out 4000 years earlier.

Its hard to give Biblical drivel credit for what it does claim knowledge to (lets see, should I stone a witch to death today, commit genocide on my enemies and rape their women, or offer up my daughter to be raped to honor my guest? Hard decisions, all), but it is rediculous to give it credit for being an inspired supernatural work given what little it does know about the planet, let alone the universe.”

“If the parents of these abused children had offered up their kids to some similar pedophile without religion being part of the transaction, the parents would be prosecuted for child abuse.

But attach Jesus to the transaction, and these woefully ignorant people get a pass from the legal system.

If one lives their lives by the edicts of bronze age myths and morals, and tosses out rationality as a guide, one should expect Bronze age results. This pastor is on strong biblical ground to do what he did. Anybody that claims the bible is the foundation for moral guidance, simply has not read it.”

As a parent myself, one has to realize that you may be the only protection/advocate your child might have in this world against predators. A parent who allowed a child to be subjected to the sexual perversions of this evil man should be prosecuted...period.”

“If the NFL perceived that putting Vick or Stallworth on the field would cause loss of ad revenue or a drop in gate attendance, they would move to remove them, just as baseball moved John Rocker out.

If the NFL thought having Rush in a skybox doing his act in blackface would increase revenues, they would welcome him with open arms and market videos of him non stop on ESPN.

NFL owners only concern is to maximize profits, they don't care about value judgements outside of how those judgements or perception of them affects profits.”

“This blog is just plain dense. His "rights" have not been violated, his brand was simply rejected in the free market. No government policy or law forced the owner's group to drop Limbaugh. They chose to drop him from the group of their own free will because they decided it was in their best financial interest to do so.

Rush has explicitly argued for the rights of owners to exclude people they want to. As he did when Martha Burk was petitioning Agusta National to allow women into the club, and they persisted in not allowing women in. Rush said this:

"It was Martha Burk, and I loved what Hootie Johnson and the membership did. Most clubs would have cowed in fear and called a meeting to reach a "common goal" and all that. Not Augusta National. I've played there 10 times, by the way. My first time, I was hosted by Jack Stephens. I believe my best score there is 99. "

If Rush loved that, why should he complain about the same thing happening to him?”

“The article does say that the research was funded by an Italian atheist group, but that does not change the facts of the research. The AP story does not describe the process deployed well, this story does a little better job of describing the method.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20091005/sc_nm/us_italy_shroud

But the bottom line is, of course the shroud is a fake. Other research has shown the shroud material to date to the 14th century. But the non-rational keep insisting that some magic was performed to create the image with mysterious powers, so real scientists keep wasting their time debunking these claims.”

alumcreek replied on Oct 06, 2009 at 09:01:15

“It is not the shroud's authenticity that matters. The church has never claimed it was real. It just refuses to admit it is not.

The lack of authenticity resides with Christianity as a religion. Worshipping a dead Jew and his Jewish disciples while murdering other Jews who decline to accept the church's claims that it is the sole heir to god's love.”

“There is no stable economic future in America. Its assets are being redeployed to areas of the world where the return on capital is greater. There is no way to leverage innovation into a business that creates a multiplier effect, as was true from 1850-1990, because global corporations can secure labor and regulation free operations elsewhere.

Americans need to get used to the idea of seeing their children go overseas to build their lives. We are this century's India.”
