“I don't know t that many on here appreciate the true: complexity of situations like this. Anyone who works in a hospital knows this is not simply a case of the facility being heartless.
1. Every day someone is in the hospital, case managers have to justify why someone needs to.still be there to their insurance. It's a little different for Medicare, but similar and yes I am pro universal health-care, but it's not here yet
2. The longer someone is in a hospital, the more susceptible they are to hospital acquired infections, it is NOT ideal to keep someone in for months and months
3. Finally, hospitals are NOT THERE TO SEE YOUR CARE FROM START TO FINISH
they are to get u medically stable enough to move to a rehab, nursing home, or hopefully home. I'm an RN in critical care, and I've been yelled at by family members for not getting my patients PT from their first day in the hospital. I am not there for that purpose- I am there to make sure your loved one does not go into cardiac/respiratory arrest. And yes, they will get a PT assessment eventually to help determine appropriate placement/ discharge needs.
Oh and by the way? Coma patients totally qualify for And would be better served by a rehab center once medically stable”
“Wow, really? Is that the best you got? Your comment does not even make any freakin' sense in this conversation...do you just blindly spew out soundbites from Fox News with no consideration to context, etc?
Go back to welter-weight sweetie. You are WAY out of your league here.”

“Your conversation is about giving away everything.....and I said, you're the reason why our state is over a billion dollars in debt.........got it??.........Now go back to your soap operas and oreos on the couch........btw, it's well after the 1st of the month, so I guess that EBT card is pretty much useless untill next month..........”

“No, not the class alone but as an RN who has run flu shot clinics and required by law to thoroughly research and become familiar with all types of vaccines, their ingredients, latest research etc, I do know a hell of a lot more than the average anti-vaxer yahoo.”

“I beg of you anti-vaxers to take a micro-biology class. Please? Until then, attempting to dialogue with any of you on this issue is straight up painful. It's as painful as trying to talk to creationists. For Reals.”

“I have taken several microbiology classes and am still against mass vaccination. For reals. You do not need to take any such courses to understand the machinations of influenza because those who purport to know the most about it, those who study and have studied pathology for years, are still mystified with this infectious disease. Bottom line is that there are still many unknown variables and can we assume that vaccinating is the answer. I am certainly not in a position to say what is right for everybody. But I am in the position to make a conscious choice to not vaccinate (as a single healthy person, without kids) because how can I be sure that a mass produced drug will help me more than simple luck. I would rather go with luck. I haven't had the flu since I was a kid.”

“And because you take a Micro-biology class, you know everything that the pharm companies are doing to create these vaccines? Painful is trying to listen to close minded individuals who think taking a biology class gives them all the answers... For Reals.”
Clearly, the almighty dollar is the true God of America.....Right-wingers need only look at our financial markets to see the true threat to religion- this idolatry of money over and above justice, love, and care for others
What Woodie Guthrie said decades ago is still very, very relevant today:
"Yes, as through this world I've wandered
I've seen lots of funny men;
Some will rob you with a six-gun,
And some with a fountain pen."”
“you still don't get it....this is not about opinions...this is about medical facts.
Being an RN, I'm funny like that. I'm a "show me the science" type of person.
There are numerous studies out there showing that BF at least until age 2 AND BEYOND yes even *gasp* 4 yr olds has amazing benefit....I challenge you to show me a study finding that doing so is "harmful"
Why is it ridiculous? Because you associate breasts with sex?
mouth can also be used for sexual acts, do you find eating or talking in public obscene or ridiculous?
Seriously dude, go on and find me some evidence based studies showing it is bad.”
“When stories began to break about no-kid planes, one of the points I brought up was "What's next, segregating developmentally disabled folks or those with dementia?"
Seems that is what's next.
I don't believe the pilots safety had anything to do with it...I'm sure they were more concerned about what the white collar types who are normally in first class would do.
People, when you are in PUBLIC sometimes you may have to put up with a little noise or sounds you would not choose to listen to.
I don't know what is so complicated about this.

“I am one of those "white collar" types" you mention. I am often upgraded to 1st class because my job requires a lot of travel. I shop at Publix (grocery store) and Home Depot because they often employ handicap persons! I am appalled by the actions of this pilot (who is protected by the pilot's union). Please do not even try shift the blame! This was the decision of one pilot who knows he has the full force of the union backing his decision. As a "white collar type" who frequently flies for work, I will not travel American Airlines in the future. Please just stop attacking fellow American, enough already!”
“Dear red states:
I truly don't mind being part of a donor state (MN) where we pay more into the federal pot than we get back. After all, my state is pretty well off and so many of yours are desperately poor with little to no viable industries or opportunities for people to get better jobs, etc. To paraphrase Peter Maurin, nothing inherently wrong with being wealthy, but it is wrong to have more than you need and not share with those who don't have enough.
All I ask in return is that you recognize that your state relies on federal funds and stop bitching about welfare etc. because guess what YOUR ENTIRE STATE IS ON IT.
And if you are not willing to do so, can those of us in donor states have our money back?
A socialist who truly does not mind sharing & asks only for gratitude in return”

“I got news for you buddy, socialism doesn't work. Take a look at whats happening to socialist countries in the world. Their WAY worse off than we are--Hint hint Greece. Socialism has never thrived and never will. Take Jamestown for example, it started off as a socialist settlement and failed miserably. It took them a couple tries to realize that socialism doesn't work so they switched to a capitalist system and the settlement thrived.
Those who ignore history are bound to repeat it.”

“You are the reason why our state is over a billion dollars in debt.............”
“PLEASE stop giving these morons so much attention! One of the ways they make money is by suing anyone who crosses the line, threatens them, etc.
The whole thing is a scam and a money making scheme...did you know Phelps was once a civil-rights lawyer, and that he even received awards from the Kansas chapter of the NAACP in the 1980's?
He probably doesn't believe half of what he says, just chooses the issues that will get the most attention...after all, what is the link between hating on gay folk and on military folk? NOTHING.
They can't keep making money if we ignore them.”
“I am oh-so-weary of then comments stating that he is clearly faking a mental illness- really??? You are a mental health professional who has personally examined him???
Again, admitting that he may have a mental illness can be done while still condemning his acts.
Why are so many of you incapable of holding these two concepts at once???
Please use critical thinking skills and raise the bar of the conversation instead of lowering it.”
“What I find amazing is how many mental health professionals there are on here! And how many of them have apparently interviewed James Holmes!
For the love of God people, it IS possible to condemn this man's actions and admit the possibility that he just may have a mental illness...It takes a slightly different set of critical thinking skills to do so, but it's really not that difficult.
Honestly, are there so many of you who are unable to objectively hold these two concepts at the same time???
His actions are reprehensible, and he should be locked up for life, but comments that state he is "obviously" faking amnesia are about as worthless as they come- they add nothing to the conversation.”
“Look, I'm as disgusted with this guy's actions as everyone else, but what if he truly doesn't know what he did because he has a serious mental illness like Dissociative disorder ? ( aka split personality) That would explain why he sent out a notebook detailing his plan and now appears unaware of what he did. Just a thought I had.”

“I agree! This is a horrible tragedy, but mental illness is uncontrollable. Someone somewhere along the way failed him, and in return we end up with this tragic situation. I agree, he should never ever be returned back to society, but like the poster said above....perhaps we can learn from him and prevent the next tragedy from happening! Many yrs ago I worked with a young adult with mental illness (Schizophrenia) and it was sad yet almost entertaining to watch. They are in a different world, with imaginary people around them...seeing things that aren't real. He would be completely normal one moment, then he'd turn pale...start sweating and begin an episode. My question is...who ignored the signs ????”
skr358 on Jul 28, 2012 at 11:18:48
“Thanks for your sane words. No one can fairly comment on Holmes' mental status but mental health professionals who actually see him or have seen him. No one on this comment board has. He most certainly could have a certifiable mental illness (or even dual diagnoses.) Again, why we as Americans, need to focus more on mental health care, education, good treatment, and then decide what we want to do about the violence that is inherent in our culture and ask ourselves...why? Why Is America so violent---I mean---generally, in attitude.”
