Of all the insanity breaking out in the Zimmerman divorce by the day, this is actually the sanest part! Requesting life insurance with the ex-spouse named as beneficiary is actually common because it's a way for the ex-spouse to make sure they still get alimony even after the support payer is dead. Divorce Causes: A Rising Number Of Divorces Are Being Blamed On Wives' Drinking, Says UK Lawyer

“What I think happens is that many couples cite irreconcilable differences, when the key issue behind the split is alcohol abuse. In NJ, you cite habitual drunkeness as a ground for divorce: http://www.weinbergerlawgroup.com/blog/newjersey-law-divorce-separation/new-year-new-life-grounds-for-divorce-in-new-jersey/ But who is going to gather all the bar receipts together to prove this? And what if you can't? Much easier to cite no fault, but this means the statistics won't show true reach of alcohol abuse.”

evolvedtg on Apr 30, 2013 at 20:03:05

“Exactly.  Exactly x infinity.  Ours was done by that, basically.  He'd be bouncing off the walls saying, "I am NOT drunk."  The "denial" everyone talks about is merely their denying they're drunk to you and everyone else and trying to make them believe it.  They know they're drunk but they think they're somehow "hiding" it.  Anyone who downs alcohol that purposefully and secretively KNOWS they're a drunk.  They just choose it over you and their kids.  Disgusting.”

evolvedtg on Apr 8, 2013 at 10:31:19

“Irreconcilable diff is grounds they'll agree to.  To fight on so your papers reflect what a drunk he/she is is just an absolute waste of $ when your primary goal is just to get shut of them.  I agree that the statistics will probably never show the true reach of alcohol abuse.  All you need do is hit your local deli on the way home to grab a gallon of milk, or whatever, and find yourself at the end of a long line of folks with 12 packs.... On a Tuesday, or Wed..... you know?  "nuff said.  Gross.”

Divorce Causes: A Rising Number Of Divorces Are Being Blamed On Wives' Drinking, Says UK Lawyer

Commented Apr 8, 2013 at 07:39:39 in Divorce

“The reason why this statistic is difficult to track is that, in some cases, it may be difficult to prove alcohol abuse. In New Jersey, you can file for divorce on the grounds of habitual drunkeness - http://www.weinbergerlawgroup.com/blog/newjersey-law-divorce-separation/new-year-new-life-grounds-for-divorce-in-new-jersey/ -- but if you can't hand over DWI tickets or bar receipts, would this affect your case? That's why most opt for the "no fault" clause just as a way to get out. My take is that many more divorces involve alcohol that we think! Glad to see these studies coming out.”

Menopause Symptoms: Is 'The Change' Destroying Your Memory?

Commented Mar 10, 2013 at 23:23:20 in Fifty

“Yes, it can be menopause, but researchers shouldn't underestimate the role stress can play in all of this -- stress too can affect memory, and tends to be in abundant supply as women hit middle age. As this article points out http://www.womentowomen.com/adrenalhealth/stress-brainfunction.aspx, stress can affect memory on three levels: cellular changes in the hippocampus, the part of the brain central to learning and memory, slowed or halted neuron production, and diminished ability to clean up free radicals and inflammation, which can lead to accelerated brain aging.

Not saying hormones don't matter, but sometimes it's not just hormones that affect women's health.”

“You can figure it out perhaps on similar studies with coffee -- "Results from a range of studies worldwide have been mixed, but moderate caffeine use seems to not only reduce the risk of developing dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, but also to slow their progression. In Finland, where coffee consumption is higher than anywhere else in the world, the lowest risk of Alzheimer’s and dementia later in life was found in those who drank three to five cups of coffee per day." (source: http://www.womentowomen.com/fatigueandstress/effectsofcaffeine.aspx)

So the Finland study points to 3-5 cups of coffee -- calculate the amount of caffeine in green tea and you should have an approximate of how much tea to drink.”

“In addition to egg nog (my favorite acid producer), I've switched to peppermint tea as my go-to holiday drink. Add a real candy cane to the side for a festive look. Other good teas to try for the holidays include chamomile (good for getting kids to sleep on Christmas Eve) and lemon balm (add a sprig of mint to the side). Both of these have excellent digestive qualities -- http://www.womentowomen.com/digestionandgihealth/herbalremediesfordigestivesystem.aspx

seumasog on Dec 21, 2012 at 12:01:24

“Peppermint and spearmint can actually trigger reflux for some people because, like chocolate, they have chemical properties that relax the lower esophageal sphincter. They're probably the same anti-spasmodic properties that make peppermint and spearmint otherwise soothing to the rest of the digestive tract. So regardless of their other "digestive" properties, they really aren't beneficial for GERD.”
