“You should have watched CSPAN yesterday. .. you could have listened to the audio version.
This has been very transparent and it's just more progressive whining to suggest that it hasn't been. You've seen every bill which was proposed, you've heard hours upon hours of debate. You've witnessed TV discussion after discussion, you've been to town halls (oh wait, progressives didn't go to those, just the tea baggers) okay, you watched the news coverage of the town halls, you saw the President speak to the joint session of Congress, you've read blog post after blog post here and elsewhere, you've participated in HP's "combing" through the bills,
Aside from going to the Capitol to sit at the side of Harry Reid or your Senator (and like the tea party players, you could have showed up to visit your elected representatives too) you've had every chance to do something productive and constructive. Instead, you've been sitting around whining.
Stop complaining about transparency, because the truth is staring you in the face.”

“Hey kids. why don't you propose a "progressive purity test!" Progressives can have ten questions and if they don't answer at least 7 the way you want, boot 'em out of the party. You don't need no stinkin' moderates or conservative or heck, even those crazy liberals in your party. Just kick 'em all to the curb! Just keep the Deaniacs and the Huffinopolouses and the Kossacks and forget about the rest of 'em! If they don't believe exactly like you, off with their heads... or at least "out of the party!"
Then you can publish a little green, Green Book with sayings from the [former] Chairman Dean and Madam New {Media} (those over a certain age will get the phonetic reference. ) And why not have everyone dress alike so when you see each other on the street you can salute.
Yep, a purity test... Don't be tardy to the party purge...”

“One could say that Stewart's approach to food and housekeeping is elitist, and Rachel Ray's is populist. Martha is the working class girl trying to make it in high society. Rachel is the storekeeper's daughter who's proud to be who she is. Martha is the social doyenne who is teaching her servants how to run Martha's home. Rachel is your neighbor showing you the tricks behind her quick fix meals.
Martha is pretentious. Rachel is practical.”

“Sorry, but you have that backwards. Sen. Obama campaigned for the Democractic candidate in the CT Senate race in 2006. That was Ned Lamont. The Democratic Senate Campaign Committee, which sent popular Democrats out to campaign also supported the Democrat in the race.
It helps when you at least get some of your facts straight.
You people are so willing to hate on Joe Lieberman, you can think or see straight. It causes you to make dumb statements about Obama that are simply untrue.”

“What folks like Hamsher and others fail to realize is that the "progressive" wing of the Democratic party is the left what the "small government (tea party backing) conservatives are to a "normal" Republican party (before the Great Purge of 2009).
In the "big tent" Democratic party we have people to our right (the Lincolns, Bayhs, Landrieus, Nelson (NE), Baucus) and we have people to our left (Feingold, Franken, Burrus) and we have people in the middle. Obama is in the middle.
I'm in the middle too. It is a more balanced place -- but it is also a place where those of us who stop to think about why we support or disagree with an idea -- have time and a place to do so. We are not as driven by pure ideology as those at the extremes. We also tend to be more pragmatic, willing to make compromise to get the job done, and work for the greater good, rather than just what appeals to our faction.”

“My shoulders feel a little lighter today because I just wrote MoveOn a nice long letter telling them "I Quit."
I can no longer support this knee-jerk reactionary negativity. I'm done.
MoveOn was among the first to encourage a primary opponent for Joe Lieberman, which put us in this predicament with Lieberman exacting payback on the Democrats. For the record, the New York Times endorsed Lamont also (and then Senator Obama campaigned for the Democrat in the three-way general election.)
But a secton of the NYT endorsement stands out: "Mr. Lieberman’s friends see it as an attempt by hysterical antiwar bloggers to oust a giant of the Senate for the crime of bipartisanship. Lamont backers — most of whom seem more passionate about being Lieberman opponents ... [snip]."
"...{snip] ... [Lieberman's] moderate fair-mindedness against a partisan radicalism that alienates most Americans. “What kind of Democratic Party are we going to have?” [Lieberman] asked in an interview with New York magazine. “You’ve got to agree 100 percent, or you’re not a good Democrat?”
For the record, I have no great love of Lieberman, but given the vitrol which is spewing here and elsewhere by progressives, Joe Lieberman of 2006 asked a fair and prescient question. One that can be applied to how people respond to President Obama as well.
I've said "Enough!" I'm moving on from MoveOn. I've outgrown them.”

“Excuse me but I think that someone who actually speaks at the convention of the opposing party -- as Joe Lieberman did in this past election -- is hardly a moderate who is simply seeking bi-partisanship. What Lieberman did was inexcusable -- and yet he was excused and allowed to keep his Democratic perks in the Senate. What kind of Democratic party are we going to have -- one in which Democrats don't go supporting the other side in an election and then expect to be welcomed back into the party fold as though nothing happened.. .in short, a party without the likes of Joe Lieberman!”

“If it would be of any benefit or consequence to suggest that you are wrong, and that that would change your mind, I'd say it. However, your defection from Obama demonstrates the ignorant, small-minded, selfish and petty ideology of some in the Democratic party.
Obama is NOT just like Bush, Clinton, Reagan (Regan was former Treasury Sec'y under Reagan, and Obama is not like him either.) It's is clear the "prgressive wing" of the Democratic party is looking more and more like extreme right wing of the Republican party. Your litmus and purity tests seek to do the same thing: purge the party of people whose beliefs are more moderate -- and frankly more pragmatic, and would achieve more progress -- than yours.
The Democratic party has been by and large (even in its most restricted times) a party that believes in representative democracy. And from throughout the 1960's the Democrats changed to include new Democrats such as those from the Mississippi Freedom Party. They were the ones who made it possible for people like you and me to not just vote, but be elected. That's the lesson you should have taught your grandson. But you didn't.
I'm sure John McCain, Sarah Palin and Michael Steele will welcome your BA along with the 38 other black delegates at the next RNC. Don't let the doorknob smack you on the way out.”

Radical New Idea: Medicare Buy-In For Everyone

“Sorry... but as someone who has an 80 year-old mother on Medicare, I beg to differ.
She -- and all of the other seniors I know DO USE expensive brand name drugs. Whether or not those brand names are covered by one's particular Part D plan depends on your insurance company's formulary -- or list of drugs that they buy "wholesale" and include as part of what is covered with a prescription drug co-pay. When you hit the doughnut hole -- based on a combination of your co-pay drugs, plus your brand name "retail" drugs, you pay full price for your brand name medicines. For instance, a senior with COPD (among other ailments) who is prescribed Advair, ( there is no comparable generic replacement) may pay $20 per diskus until they hit the dreaded doughnut hole, where the price skyrockets to $185.00. Spiriva? Plavix? same thing only more expensive and unlike Advair, there are no discount coupons to soften the sticker shock for many brand name drugs.
Unfortunately, you example is not borne out by real-life examples. If you really want to know what Medicare does and doesn't cover -- and at what rate -- go to Medicare.g ov. or ask your parents or grandparents on Medicare. While Part D has some nice things going for if, the doughnut hole really, really sucks.”

They haven't lifted a finger to get the deal done. I love how they can derail negotiations by stupid, violent protests.
I wonder just how easy it is bring together 193 countries with disparate interests, disparate economies, populations and governments, and get them to sit down for 14 days and craft an agreement -- even with 2 years of preparation ahead of the meeting?
