27 Things You Need To Know About Happiness

27 Things You Need To Know About Happiness

Commented Mar 23, 2014 at 20:28:24 in Healthy Living

“It is very hard to make yourself happy, when you're bi-polar disorder decides it's time to take a walk on the depressive side. It hasn't mattered how hard I've tried, or how many skills I've used, the depression is winning this round and I'm sick of feeling like this. I exercise, i journal, i meditate, i do positive affirmations, etc. and et al. There are times in your life that things just don't work and you live in a deep dark hole for a while; the whole time trying to put on a happy face, (fake it til you make it,) and climb out of it. Meds and therapy only do so much and i get tired of people telling me to just cheer up, pull myself up by my bootstraps and, "you don't have anything to be depressed about." It's not like depression is a choice, nor is it something i like to live in. But slapping a smile on my face and saying it's all good doesn't work either. So when someone you know is suffering from depression, do me a favor, don't tell them to cheer up. Offer to listen, but don't give advice, just be there for a friend.”

Ernesta Lynn Williams on Mar 26, 2014 at 06:02:44

“Thank you. A thousand times I thank you for this post. You are giving a "LIVED" testimonial of just how depression affects the PERSON. Not to bring another cliché into this, but I must share the words of my grandmother, "this too shall pass". When I'm in that dark place, I cling to her words. Yes, from the Bible.”

House GOP Warily Eyes Another Debt Ceiling Showdown

“Let us get ready for another plaque of ignorant, imbecilic, nonsensical wave of unconstitutional demands on the President before the Tea Party will raise the debt ceiling. A decision that has been automatic with any other president. The fact that the debt must be paid, and to not do so is unconstitutional does not seem to enter into the minds of the Republican party as a whole, much less the Tea Party that has shown it doesn't care. Yes, Tea Partiers, just as you and I are required to pay our debts, the United States of America is required to pay its' debts by constitutional law. Would you like to take a remedial course on Constitutional law as it applies to the government or are you just going to ignorantly act without caring about the people of this country once again? After all that is you Modus Operandi.”

“It is neither the number nor the degree that they MAY violate the constitution. The mere fact that the are issued by President Obama is enough to set off any Republican. They have done more to do nothing while he is in office and this is just another shot at a President who could have changed the entire scope of our economy in his first term if The House had worked with him and not against him. The fact that he is African-American doesn't help either. If you think Congress isn't silently playing the race card, then you are sadly and hopelessly deluded.”

“One does not need to be a drug addict or an alcoholic to be a bad parent. The United States used to allow forced sterilization of certain people; without their knowledge and without their permission. People that were considered lesser beings. Those in mental institutions, even if they were sane, children w/ handicaps etc. It was sort of like Hitler's Nazi party; only these people weren't killed just sterilized, because no one objected and no one stood in the "Learned Doctors" way. That is why this kind of practice is now illegal. No one knows how a person is going to treat a child until they have one of their own. It is no more your right to judge who should/should not be on birth control or should/should not be sterilized than Hitler had the right to murder 6 million people.”

Robert Cat on Jan 4, 2014 at 22:55:16

“I'm not advocating mass sterilization. I'm saying put children on birth control and make people earn their way into parenthood, like they do a driver's license. There's a HUGE difference between doing that and what Hitler did. No comparison.

Yes, we do have the right to judge who should have children when the rest of us are picking up the tab for them in terms of welfare, and criminal prosecutions and imprisonment. Sorry. Unless you personally want to pay for all these children of these horrible parents, don't tell me I don't have the right to have a say in it. I'm paying for it.”

“As much as I deplore what she is accused of doing, I have to ask you, who would be deciding who gets to reproduce and who doesn't. Children from EVERY walk of life are sexually abused and molested. Children from every walk of life are put in dangerous and neglectful situations every day by their own parents. By saying "Neutralized," I am going to assume that you meant she should have had her tubes tied and not been capable of having children; and not killed. I would like to ask where is the father of these children. I didn't hear him mentioned anywhere. If she should have been made to be sterile, it follows that he also should have the same consequence. If their were more than one father to the children, then all of them should have been sterilized in accordance with your rather infantile argument.”

Robert Cat on Jan 4, 2014 at 16:58:15

“Both of them should be sterilized.

Maybe people need to be put on forced birth control when they hit puberty and have to prove themselves worthy of being parents before having it reversed.

That is, they potential parents have to not be druggie/alcoholics, have to take serious parenting classes, have to show they are responsible and productive members of society before being allowed to reproduce. Reproduction shouldn't be an automatic right for everyone.”

“I have seen "No Guns Allowed" signs everywhere lately. To me it's just common sense. Does one really need to take a gun into a store, a library, a restaurant or a movie theater? In my opinion, the answer is no. People still have the right to carry their guns, just not everywhere. Just as one cannot shout "Fire," in a full theater, when there is none; (because of the resulting chaos and possible death that would result), one does not have the right to carry a gun everywhere. It is not denying the Second Amendment in any way. It's just a person, who owns a business, using common sense for ALL their customers.”

Not everyone has the means to drive 40 to 50 miles to get to a better job. If there is no other choice, and you need an income, you take what you can get. By the way, there are college educated people working at fast food places because they cannot find a job in today's market in the field they choose.”

“Please do not lump all "Christians" in with the AFA. I am a Christian. I follow Christ, I would probably be kicked out of the AFA for doing so. By following Chist, I mean I follow his commandments that he stated in the New Testament. Love your neighbor as you would yourself and Feed the hungry, give water to the thirsty, heal the sick, clothe the naked, and help those imprisoned. I give to the charities that do so. I help in charities that do so. I am also on a Prison Ministry team that does go to prisons and meet with prisoners. We do crafts with them, read and explain different Bible passages to them, take their prayer requests and we pray with them. We also talk to them. This a group of prisoners that come voluntarily, they are not forced. It is a very healing and spiritual feeling that I get from being there. I believe that ALL people should be honored as Jesus did not say, Love your neighbor except for _______( fill in the blank.) People are people. You either follow Christs' example or you don't. You don't pick and choose and their is no "Merry Christmas in the Bible. In fact Christmas is from 2 Latin words, Cristo mas or Christs' Mass. So it doesn't really matter, does it. And those who don't like Xmas. In the Greek language X denotes the first letter of Christs' name. He's in there also.”

“It doesn't matter to me if people consider Sen. Murray polite or boring. I don't think she would be more effective if she used "all the expletives deleted that we're silently thinking," as Patricia Ladas put it. Boring does not equal dumb, ignorant, stupid or anything of that sort. So perhaps Senator Murray's style is to stay calm and effective during these talks. If so, then I applaud her. If staying quiet while Rep. Ryan jokes commands her respect because she is efficient and knows what this country needs, then all the better for her. We need a leader in these talks and we, (as in democrats), have found a great one. A smart, intelligent, no nonsense type of woman that will demand the respect that she deserves and will hopefully get the Republican party to finally learn what the term, compromise, means. It does not mean that they get everything they want and we get nothing. It means, buckle up and prepare to hand over some revenue or the talks are already doomed. Paul Ryan may think he's funny, but we all know that he is not as smart as he would like us to believe, and he's not very funny either.”

“That may very well be your opinion. It is not mine. All Christians are not the same, as all Jews are not the same, Hindus, Buddhists, Wiccans, Atheists, etc. I belong to a church that welcomes everyone. We do not discriminate and hate is not preached. Gays and Lesbians can become pastors in our church. It is a mainline Protestant church and though all churches of this denomination are not as open minded, I am very happy that ours is. Even if I didn't go to church, I would still say that God is not hateful. He is a loving Father/Mother, however you wish to see him/her. It is not without a great deal of angst and soul searching and researching that I came to my faith in God and my utter belief in "those things I cannot see." I have been going to church since I was 4, that doesn't mean I always believed and I still don't always believe everything that I am told. I read up on things on my own. I read books about the times of Christ and his apostles on my own. To me a little knowledge is dangerous, the more you know the more you understand. If all you think of an hour of hearing the bible/singing/praise/ and someone's opinion is "the most segregated hour of the week; and that most religions are hate groups, then I would suggest that you do some research to find out which ones aren't.”

“I'm glad you left your grandfathers' so called church. However, it is not a church, it is a hate group and you need to acknowledge that. You need to seek a church that does not espouse hate, or a God that is hateful. God is loving and kind. We may not always understand his ways, but he is not filled w/ hate. You need to help those who you have hurt. The LGBTQ community, the veterans, the whole of the American people. Why the American people, because we don't like your Grandfather and his ways. You need to remember how many people stood in lines blocking your so called church from getting anywhere near some funerals. Being an actress isn't going to help those people. But before you do anything, you need to understand who you two individuals really are and go from there.”
