What happens here is, we have a rightwing corporate/religious/political base which runs the GOP, which encourages a segment of the middle and lower-class to vote for who the GOP want.
And the people who the GOP want are either smart tools, or dumb tools.”

“Yah, well, that was his rationale. But he really pursued things with an angle and rhetoric that was increasingly code-words for being anti-Latino immigrant, and was also effectively lumping legal and illegal immigrants together, AND blaming them for things they weren't even connected to on top of it.
Basically using "illegal" as a code word for "dirty Mexican", the way other conservatives use "thug" as a code word for "typical Black criminal".”

“Look, as I said, I think Dobbs fell off the deep end quite awhile ago.
But I don't think Dobbs was anti-Latino immigrant at all. Given that many of his relatives, by marriage, are Mexican, I seriously don't think that, for him, the word "illegal" is code for "dirty Mexican." It is for many racists--that cannot be denied--but I don't think it's the case with him.”

“The e-verify system would be helpful for tracking...but it's not going to stop the hiring by itself.
if the hiring only produces fines, then companies will simply deduct the cost from their profit and continue.
The only way to stop the hiring is to make sure that those at the *top* of these companies are going to face personal accountability that can't be settled with money.”

“Even if you actually could physically arrest and detain every single illegal alien, more would come as long as there are jobs here.
Even if you could build a prison-quality wall and moat around every inch of the US, they'd still find a way in if they know there's work here.
Think about it - if the only chance you had to keep your family from homelessness or starvation was to cross a border and work - how clever would you be? How many different ways would you try and find a way around it, until you got in?
Illegal immigrants are being exploited, to the detriment of the American-born worker as well. The only way to stop the problem is to stop the **root cause** - the jobs that are given to them.”

“This whole controversy over illegal immigration makes me laugh. It can be solved in two steps.
Ready?
1. Jailtime for any CEO who's company hires illegal aliens
2. guaranteed minimum wage
Now, as BOTH parties are beholden to large companies, who make a lot of money through the cheap labor illegal immigrants provide - don't ever expect this to happen.
The most amazing thing to me about this whole debate, is the **successful** misdirection to blame the illegal immigrants and NOT the people who HIRE them. The immigrants are just coming here to work - it's the American CEO's who are damaging and betraying the US-born worker.”

“Vegetarians and vegans do not need dietary supplements.
You are confusing the issue. Most PEOPLE in America are undernourished, not just vegans and vegetarians. The problem is the issue of processed foods, which all groups of people are guilty of eating too much of.
Meat is virtually devoid of micro-nutrients. You get a small handful from it, the biggest one being B12 which your need for is measured in micrograms. Your argument rests on the notion that meat is some block of nutrient dense ambrosia. It isn't. It's a block of macro nutrients, two of which people already get far too much of (protein and fat), combined with a poison (saturated fat) and a handful of micro nutrients which can be more easily obtained in greater quantities elsewhere.”

1. For it to have come from the Bush admin, they would have had to be capable of far more competence in strategy, tacts and execution than they have EVER shown
2. Specifically if they planned it, there's NO WAY they would have had Bush anywhere near a camera when the planes hit - let alone reading "My Pet Goat" to a bunch of schoolkids so he could get caught looking as scared and incompetent as he did.”

“Bush was being run from Wall Street, just like this administration--in fact, like all of them since Kennedy paid the price of printing silver certificates and threatening to end the Fed. They have the money, the know how, and profit from war and chaos. Every modern war (every war since the creation of national central banks back in the 1600's) that has been fought, has been created by the banks that then went on to fund both sides of each conflict. The goal is control of production and power to govern. Bush, whatever the lie is about his intellect which was at least good enough to help plan the economic scam we are saddled with, achieved every goal he had when he entered the white house: Start a war, repeal the constitution, and make a lot of money. Mission Accomplished.”

“Not so fast, jbeach - the Bush administration - and ANY administration - somehow have a way of doing what they really want to do, and becoming "bunglers" when they need to be.
And usually, they will not only appear to bungle the job, they will gladly allow themselves to be called bunglers so that the investigation doesn't go further.
Example? the invasion of Iraq. They lied, lied again, lied some more, produced crazy satellite photos labelled so that you would see what they wanted you to see, etc. to get the whole thing going.
The proof that they were BSing? Somehow, it got all pushed to the side. UN weapons inspectors? Forced to stop looking (we know why).Scott Ritter, one of the more vocal critics? Derailed with some charges of goofing around with a minor.
Once they got in, they no longer cared - that's why the buildup went so "good" and the post-war stuff seemed to be massively messed-up.
I have a theory about Bush (better sit down)....he wasn't really, REALLY in the loop. The infamous 8/6/01 PDB? He was "advised" that it was "historical", and that's why he brushed it off. He was in FL to stay out of the way. That look of deer-in-the-headlights/fear was completely genuine.
The REAL men behind the curtain were Cheney and Rumsfeld - with a little Rice on the side.”

“I don't even read newspapers any more. I go to blogs, because it's like getting the news days, weeks or even months early.
I first turned to blogs during the run-up to the Iraq war - because all major newspapers not owned by Knight-Ridder were failing the American public when we needed them most.
And even Knight-Ridder owned papers only did a slightly less awful job than the rest.
It would be great to be able to trust the NY Times. But they have a lot more trust to regain in that department.
Blogs properly set up can and do have a better ability to do fact-checking - the fact-checking is done by the readers, in the comments.
We'll see what will happen - but traditional journalism will have to make itself more immediately responsive to the people in order to compete.”
