“Dr Oz makes a good point about some wasteful healthcare practices, however fails to address the real issue bedeviling doctors and patients alike. It's true that some doctors order "unnecessary" tests, especially those connected with diagnostic labs and in-house diagnostic services. It's another thing to practice covering all the bases and leaving no stone unturned kind of medicine. Who is going to say which is which? Doctors also need to cover their diagnoses - the insurance industry demands it too.

I offer my own recent experience as additional fuel for discussion. I was diagnosed with allergic asthma after hacking for three week uncontrollably and coughing up clear sputum. I was prescribed five different medications, which I bought. After no relief in a month, I suggested to my physician's assistant that perhaps a chest-xray would help? But instead of a chest x-ray (which may or may not have made clear a diagnosis), I was immediately prescribed an antibiotic. My condition subsequently cleared in seven days. My physician's assistant did everything that was politically and professionally "correct" for this day and age - but clearly, I could have been saved a lot of pain and suffering if the traditional xray followed with an antibiotic was given to me first.

If there is a moral to this story, it might be that medicine can never be just black and white.”

Unlike the Mccain operative who said that this race was not about issues - Americans cannot be duped by spin masters who try to cloak an inept by creating a legend. Again, I ask if Palin is American enough for America. What do we love about America, and does Palin adequately represent it with her words and deeds? Free Speech? She told critics to be quiet, even when they were asking about her Transparent governance? She is being investigated for abuse of authority in influencing the firing of her ex-brother in law. Tolerance of diversity and divergent views? Tried to fire a librarian for not censoring books that offended her. Separation of church and state? Thinks that that the war in Iraq is a task from God. We're not even talking about the Road to Nowhere, leaving her town deep in debt, making public servants sign loyalty oaths... On and On. We cannot afford to make it all about PERSONALITIES.”
