“People were around for 3 million years before cloth was invented. What is the big deal? More recently, Australian natives and Polynesian natives didn't have a problem. Neither do some people in the Netherlands. Do note the high rate of rape and abuse in some regions where women are all covered up, and the low rate of rape and abuse in Sweden, Denmark, etc. which are a lot more casual.”

Essential Nutrients You're Missing From Your Diet

“Just had my blood tested. I've got all those nutrients (and others) in range. I'm a vegan. The toughest one is B12 which I take sub lingual under my tongue since I'm apparently deficient in the enzyme needed to digest B12 pills in my intestine. Something else is out of whack which my naturopath is investigating. It's fine tuning on my health. The GP is busy with sick people. Life style and nutrition are not his specialty.”

ABXNOMORE on Jul 26, 2013 at 17:17:52

“Liquid B12 drops placed under the tongue is absorbed better than sublingual pills. Methylcobalamin is the best for of B12. All vegan's need to supplement with B12 unless you are eating a ton of foods fortified with B12.”

ie on Jul 26, 2013 at 17:12:58

“FYI, I've read, and witnessed, that B12 may show fine in blood levels, but not be absorbed at cellular level as well, so tissues may not have enough. I witnessed this with my father as I cared for him for several years. Methylcobalamin is best absorbed--much better than cyanacobolamin.”

getsit on Jul 26, 2013 at 16:58:58

“Make sure you do. My friend who is vegan started having trouble concentrating and some other brain issues and her blood works showed a real deficiency. She started taking it and got better quickly. She knew better so there was no excuse. Not having enough over time can cause permanent brain damage.

You can get Vitamin 12 shots which don't go through your intestine. Maybe you can get a prescription and shoot it up yourself.

Personally I don't think we humans were ever meant to be vegans. Adding eggs (which are full of nutrition) at the very least and some milk products like yogurt.”

“Read the news. Red meat distinctly worse for all causes mortality, long term study over 400,000 people. Red meat promotes heart disease, cancer example colon, diabetes. Processed meat even worse. Also read BBC, an egg a day or more worse for all causes mortality, particularly diabetic doctors(!). Dairy? Read "The No Dairy Breast Cancer Program" by world famous scientist prof. Jane Plant, CBE. There are many studies concluding vegans and vegetarians longer lived. We're vegans plus a couple servings of wild caught sardines or oystes a week, less than 4 ounces each. Why isn't all this more widely known? Food Inc., big Pharma, "fee for service" all depend on patients with unhealthy nutrition...Oh, takes a lot more acreage and makes a lot more carbon dioxide to feed livestock for people consumption, than to feed people plant foods. Don't expect much change - people still smoke in spite of everything.”

And BTW, eating "a couple servings of wild caught sardines or oystes a week" means you're an omnivore, too. LOL.

“1. Marijuana within 3 hours of driving doubles the crash rate. Sneaky thing, car magazine tested marijuana drivers on a maneuvering course, the drivers "thought" they were doing fine, but rubber cones were knocked down all over. They had no clue they were screwing up. 2. Lungs are not designed to handle smoke particles. Took decades to learn that on tobacco, here we go again. Medical? use cannabis inhalers like the asthmatics do. 3. Widespread availability, teens using marijuana lose 10 points in IQ. What is it saying about you to resort to chemical trickery to occupy yourself - we exercise, engage in the community, eat healthily, what's the matter with the recreational pot users?”

“Nothing at all.
What's the matter with sanctimonious busybodies who believe their life should serve as a model for everyone else? If you were that busy exercising and engaging in the community, you wouldn't have time to piss away online pontificating about subjects in which you are clearly under-informed. Here's a thought, if you don't want to do it, don't.

Statistics provided by the Kirk Cameron School of Public Policy.
Losing IQ points? That's laughable - and anyone who has even a nodding acquaintance with the vagaries of intelligence testing will tell you point blank that you are talking through your hat. But as usual, facts don't matter unless they serve to support your already held conviction.

BTW - smugness is not an attractive quality and staying sober has done very little to improve your writing skills.”

ProgressiveWithoutAParty on Mar 25, 2013 at 19:02:42

“1 Really? Wow, so you are saying that a car magazine (no citation of course) actually got people to commit a felony and consume marijuana for a "sneaky test"? Did the car magazine editor supply the marijuana for the study? Did he get it for the test drivers from a nearby high school? I gotta call BS on point "1"
2. REALLY?. OK, so do you propose a total ban on any smoke producing products? Fire wood? "use cannabis inhalers like the asthmatics do" clearly you have absolutely no idea what a vaporizor is or how it works.
3. "Widespread availability" nonsense. Today under prohibition, it is easier for teenagers to get marijuana than cigarettes. Legalization and regulation will reduce availability. Your assertion that teens lose 10 IQ points is also pure unsubstantiated fantasy.
4. Is your point that recreational pot smokers don't "exercise, engage in community, eat healthy"? I gotta tell you, many of your colleagues, friends and coworkers smoke pot, and you haven't got a clue. Even many members of your church do as well. Many of them don't even drink alcohol. And I'll bet none of them fit into the "pigeon hole" your post portrays all "recreational pot users" as.

FYI: The government refuses to allow any legal scientific marijuana case studies. All your "facts" are made up BS...Do you really think there are people in a room smoking pot and performing like chimpanzees while guys in white lab coats write notes?”

“Tests show pot drivers are more aware of their impairment and drive more cautiously than the over confident reckless accident prone alcohol drinkers.

In medical pot states auto accidents and fatalities decreased along with a drop in beer consumption.

The U.of Otago, New Zealand study showed an 8 point drop in IQ only the 50 teens out of over 1000 who started chronic pot use at AGE 12.

Just who is advocating for 12 year olds to use pot? No one. Advocates want 21 and up.

The other 900 plus teens who started chronic pot use AT AGE 18 SHOWED ABSOLUTELY NO DROP IN IQ OR LOWERED LONG TERM COGNITIVE FUNCTION AT ALL.
NOTHING. NADA. ZILCH. ZERO. READ THE STUDY FOR YOURSELF!

Search Dr. Donald Tashkin, Head of the Pulmonology at UCLA Med Center. He's been studying the effects of smoking marijuana on the lungs with govt grants from the NIH/NIDA for over thirty five years and admits that research has been unable to find any association at all with increased rates of lung disease in marijuana only smokers. In fact rates were lower for the pot smokers. He admits there is therapeutic value.

Pot is a bronco dilator. Asthmatics benefit greatly from pot. The coughing and spitting up is the positive result of a bronco dilator, same as with the pharmaceutical versions like Zopenex. Look it up. A bronco dilater works by shrinking inflamed bronchial tissue which allows proper cough response to eliminate the irritants and phlegm.”

The cannabis smoking group had better lung fuction test results than the non-cannabis smokers. As a competative cyclist, I know from personal experience that a couple of good bong rips of some Super Lemon Haze and my times improve significantly than when I don't. It also motivates me to get off my butt and train. It has to do with activation of the endocannabinoid system, something tha our hunter/gatherer ancestors relied on to chase game and eat. Ever heard of a vaporizor. Ever heard of a special brownie? Car and Driver did a study in the 70's and the cannabis group had better driving metrics than the sober group and the drinking group.”

“Legalizing cannabis dispensaries has led to a decrease in traffic fatalities and a decrease in teen pot use. Legalizing and regulating marijuana will make it harder for kids to get their hands on pot and there's no evidence that adult marijuana use causes any brain damage whatsoever(unlike alcohol.) Moreover, the study linking teen marijuana use and IQ doesn't prove anything: by the authors' own admission, the most likely explanation is that troubled children, those with mental or psychological issues or those from a dysfunctional background, are more likely to use drugs as young teenagers and they're also more likely to under-perform on IQ tests: you would almost certainly find a similar connection between starting to have sex at a young age and IQ without anyone thinking that a roll in the hay causes brain damage.

And to finish debunking your disinformation, marijuana has been shown to not cause lung or respiratory cancers and there's no evidence whatsoever that it's cardiotoxic. Alcohol, on the other hand, vastly increases your risk of cancer and heart disease.”

“Correct, users should be imbibing cannabis either orally or via vaporization. Smoking almost anything is bad for you.

The same things can be said for most prescription drugs out there. The issue of the legality of cannabis is separate from the issue of regulation of it. In Wa we are enacting a cannabis blood limit level of 5ng/ml, (which is presently being challenged in court for mmj users who have much higher tolerances.) so it will be treated very similarly to alcohol.

Cannabis is a sacred herb, and it's cousin, Hemp a sacred fibre. Both will change our economy in a positive way if we let it. We each have personal responsibility every time we get behind the wheel to be clear and sober. Legalizing Cannabis does not change that.”

GOP then borrowed hundreds of billions of dollars for two wars, one of them had nothing to do with 9/11. Federal revenue is cut more than 20% to levels below other advanced countries. Do not punish the middle class and the poor for the GOP borrowing. Restore revenue to 2000 levels, then raise revenue to pay for two wars. Corporations have record profits, wealthy are spending lavish amounts on art, Tiffany's, ... not new small business jobs. Revenue from the wealthy is at lower levels than anywhere in the last 50 years. They are really "Free Loading" on government services.”

“Jerry, the only thing you got right out of this whole commentary was the budget was balanced in 2000, and even that is not entirely true!

“At fitness here there are a number of women who are working hard on their bodies and it shows! They look terrific in tights - and some of them in the gym with tight tops too. Quote "I look great in lycra because I bicycle - I bicycle because I look great in lycra!". BTW, tights show a lot less than the same women in the swimming pool here at the fitness club. And hot tub after working out.”
