“Me too, but I love Libertarians, and I am a Safire libertarian myself. I could never get up to meet a 6am call at the Lamar store, or else I would have worked there too as one of the first 60. Something about closing Club Foot and Liberty Lunch stood in the way of that.

I have many friends who were poor ACC students who went thru the meat dept on their way to running whole stores. Mackay promoted fearlessly thru effort and attitude....not seniority and politics. Being right to work has a great deal to do with Texas' economy being the beast that it is. Almost every union puke in Texas is either a teacher or works for the gov't...”

“he's said all along that unions are mediocre at best for managing labor, but serve mostly political ends that don't justify the enormous money that they take from members to achieve. He's had a target on his back since opening the Berkley store on the west coast decades ago, and the NY meat packers in the Manhattan store. They hate that he is so successful and has the highest employee retention rates in the grocery space.

Calling out the HC bill as the huge organizing scam that it is was just too much for creeps like Ctw and they been trying to use comments to remove him. Mackay IS the obstacle preventing the unions from penetrating WF.

Mackey represents a hybrid conservative recently named a Whole Foods Republican, and liberals can't take the association....even if they really are similar”

“You'll have to qualify what you mean by intelligent for you belie your own intelligence with your bigoted teabagging sheep slur.

I worked in two different unions for nearly a decade in my 20's and could not be prouder to have unshackled myself from them and to happily own a small business. I moved to a right to work state and determine my own life and career for myself today. I have a couple of business degrees and even more broker/owner business designations, and now approaching 50, I feel comfortably secure of my own intelligence. My greatest fear is to have the IRS steal my business upon my death such that I cannot leave it to my sons. I won't be offshoring my finances in complicated trust scenarios in Bermuda like the Kennedys.

Progressive should be a four letter word.”

I am sure you are going to say; no I don't want these things but as Theodore Roosevelt said:

The reactionary is always willing to take a progressive attitude on any issue that is dead.
Theodore Roosevelt

It is essential that there should be organization of labor. This is an era of organization. Capital organizes and therefore labor must organize.

“The most corrupt senate in history will pass this terrible bill in the dead of night. Ben Nelson's deal with Harry Reid is the shining example of this great deliberative body's failure.

Because Medicaid is a program whose costs are split between the federal and state governments, this expansion in eligibility raise costs dramatically for states. States will be forced to either raise taxes or cut other services to accommodate the forced increase in Medicaid spending.

Unless that state is Nebraska. The federal government will forever cover the costs of Medicaid expansion in Nebraska. Taxpayers in every other state will forever be responsible for the expanded Medicaid program in Nebraska.”

“There are still so many options for Health Care reform. Reid's bill sucked in every form in all reality. If Obama wants to lead from the center as he promised, he should call the leaders from both parties and start over. The country doesn't want Government taking over one sixth of the US economy; his poll numbers are proof of that. And yet everyone wants something done without caving to big pharma.

Will someone please reintroduce breaking the single state monopolies the insurance companies have? Force portability across state lines. The competition would be healthy, and the subsidies will be in any bill anyway for those who can't pay. Will someone please allow right to work hospitals to exist without all the union hyper political meddling? Will someone please challenge the ram it thru philosophy? We could use a Medicare Czar as long as we gave up a few other czars in exchange. Let's get that fraud taken care of ASAP.

Here's to hoping for better change in Legislative, Judicial and Executive practices”

PrehensileOne replied on Dec 15, 2009 at 11:37:00

““Forcing portability across state lines” is nothing more than regulatory arbitrage. It punishes those states that have done a proper job of regulating insurance carriers, and allows insurance companies to consolidate operations in friendly states. It creates competition between state regulatory agencies, not insurance companies. For example, BCBS of Michigan will simply cease to exist once BCBS of Wyoming is allowed sell unregulated insurance in Michigan. It does not create more insurance options.
“The country doesn't want Government taking over one sixth of the US economy” is a mathematically inaccurate, inflammatory sound bite which does not, in fact, represent public opinion. Regulating insurance carriers to ensure non-discrimination, reasonable pricing, and non-deceptive marketing is a valid function of government. We regulate common carriers for the benefit of consumers because the alternative is to attempt contract enforcement from the grave.”
