“What's going on is obvious. The American people do not want to be there. The American people do not want to waste treasure and lives doing something that can't be done. The American people want us out of ALL these entangling alliances around the world.

Big business wants us in all these alliances, whether they are energy companies or weapons manufacturers or financial institutions because it enhances their bottom lines. Big business either owns media outlets outright or contols them through advertising dollars. The only people who believe this myth of "American Exceptionalism" are the credulous fools who, listen to FOX News 24/7 and who have never heard anything else.”

This is eerily familiar, isn't it? – the media trying to persuade us that this escalation is the right thing to do.

Sounds like at least some things haven't changed.”

“Really. WTF is the point. Humanity cannot afford try exploring the moon right now or look for water for future explorers. They think maybe they can find oil there? HAH! I'd like to go for a vacation just to say I've been there but I sure as hell can't afford the trip.

So what's the deal? Maybe they want to make easy for the uber-rich to dump afew $100,000,000 and tour the moon. "Wow, dude, check out our pictures. Nobody's EVER been here before..."

Money better spent on developing green industries. But what the hell do rich people care about that?

JJ”

chris24j replied on Oct 07, 2009 at 20:42:53

“Moon exploration IS money spent towards developing greener energy. You may want to do a little more reading. There is some good stuff at the Artemis project, but that's just a beginning. We will quite possibly derive greater clean energy and re-cycling abilities as a result of the world's various space porgrams than we might get from putting the money anywhere else.”

Commented Sep 10, 2009 at 21:07:36 in Media

“The fact that Beck is still on the air tells us that Uncle Rupert must be personally bankrolling his show. Murdoch's idea that one person should be able to influence the opinion of everyone has no place in a free world.”

austinro replied on Sep 10, 2009 at 23:40:03

“How does Glenn Beck influence the opinion of everyone? What an absolutely idiotic statement even if you were intending that to mean Murdoch influences everyones opinion. You are now the judge of who has what place in a free society? If beck is truly the lunatic you say he is then he will wither up and go away beacuse people will figure out that he is a phony. You know that people tune in to Beck beacuse he isnt afraid to say politically things considered politically incorrect, take on organizations such as ACORN, and criticize both Democrats and Republicans. Beck is someone people can actually identify with and that resonates in a huge way which is why people tune in.”

On the other hand, the Iranians might warm to the idea of Cheney being in their government. I'm sure they are willing to set up a special room inside their capital building where he could work.

Then, again, if they got him inside such a room, they probably wouldn't let him out until he finishes his term in office, like, maybe, LIFE!?!”

It's like killing three birds with one stone: First, she's OUT as governor of Alaska; two, she's OUT as a viable presidential candidate in 2012; three, if the GOP does nominate her in 2012, they will sink even deeper into the hole they've been digging for thirty years.”

“"three, if the GOP does nominate her in 2012, they will sink even deeper into the hole they've been digging for thirty years."

Can even the GOP base be THAT dumb? Seems unlikely, but I wouldn't wager heavily against it.

One thing I'm enjoying about this is that it demonstrates again the incredible, overwhelming, mind-numbing stupidity of William Kristol, who led the neo-con pack that pushed for McCain to pick Caribou Barbie. Kristol obviously is not a dimwit -- he's a Harvard magna -- but there's book smart and then there's SMART smart. Kristol's problem is he's spent his entire life inside the bubble of neo-conism. His whole career has been within the hermetically sealed environment of academia and right-wing journals and think tanks. He simply has no understanding of the workings of the real world and apparently has no interest in learning about them.”

How Media Will Pay for Poor Warning on Financial Collapse

Commented May 05, 2009 at 17:51:02 in Media

“People have been warning of this collapse ever since the deregulation brought about by the repeal of the Glass-Stiegal Act. People predicted this catastrophe and the growth of "derivatives" and other speculative investment vehicles. The hazards were foreseen. Somebody (BODY or group of privilidged idividuals) planned the whole thing and just robbed the whole country. This DEMANDS an investigation.”
