“I witnessed something similar this past summer, in the high heat of August. A young woman pulled into the fire lane outside of a CVS/mini mall. She stepped out and went into the store, leaving the car running, with a young toddler appx. 3 years old, and a very young infant in a car seat. I was waiting for a friend to finish her food shopping and so stood by the car waiting her return. The woman didn't come out for 15 mins or more. As she approached the car I asked her if indeed this was her car and she said yes. I then asked her if she thought it was a good idea to leave a running car with an infant and toddler in it, unattended. She replied, "they're fine and mind your own business." I was stunned. I was half tempted to write down her plate number and call the police, but didn't. I wish I had.”

Witnessing child endangerment and not reporting it to the authorities was wrong on your part. berzelius is absolutely wrong in telling you that you should mind your own business. berzelius sounds like someone who would walk by a mugging and not bother to call the police. After all, it's none of his/her business. And if berzelius would NOT walk by a mugging, then why walk by a car with 2 babies inside? I would have immediately called the police and then waited for them to arrive so the "mother" would know I was the one who cared enough about her children to make sure no harm came to them. Next time, do what you know is right and call the cops.”

“I would have called the cops immediately. In CA, it is illegal to leave small children in a car alone at all, but to leave them in one that is running is too stupid to be excused.”

“My husband is Japanese by birth/an American citizen for over 20 years. He does business regularly in the Far East, Japan and Hong Kong; the Pacific Rim. Sometimes it's only a 1-2 day trip. And his company has branch offices and condos in those countries, so he keeps clothes there, allowing him to travel "light." 3 times the past few years he's been pulled out for questioning and /or patted down to have his carry on searched. On one occasion he either misplaced his round trip ticket (or something like that) and just purchased another, a one way tix back to the U.S. He only had a carry on, no checked luggage. He was detained for some time and questioned. Doesn't bother him; he'd rather we be safe, he says.”
