Bill Clinton: Purdum a "Sleazy" "Slimy" "Scumbag"

“As a long time Bill Clinton supporter I find it reprehensible that he could wag his finger at others for a fictitious conspiratorial smear campaign against his wife considering the way he TRULY disrespected her.

“An act of projection is the first thing that came to my mind after hearing Bill's remarks. Now I don't condone what some reporters have written throughout this campaign, but you simply cannot say it was all against Hillary. I have read SO MANY negative articles about Obama as well. Articles about his pastors, about his wife, and even articles that drudge up the Muslim myth. No, they shouldn't do it, but they do, and it effects every person who has ever run for office. I know it's hard to see that when you are on one team, but don't be so naive as to think it's all about sinking Hillary.”

Stop Being So Offended, Democrats

“Lionel, I truly believe you have to nip this stuff in the bud or it becomes a full blown 'swift boat.'
As individuals, by all means, we speak differently and behave in a less offended manner - as a society, however, there are standards that should be adhered to.
Is it too much to ask that there not be jokes about the killing of a presidential candidate?
Don't you see what road starts to be paved when these comments are tolerated?”

Realistically speaking Clinton would lose a general election.”

Obama: No Surprise That Hard-Pressed Pennsylvanians Turn Bitter
Commented Apr 14, 2008 at 17:49:39 in Home
“You still don't get it.
You believe Obama "meant" no disrespect, just as Clinton "meant" no disrespect with her LBJ comments.
The great difference is that while Obama supporters may have unfairly attacked Hillary for LBJ, it is HILLARY CLINTON herself unfairly attacking Obama (per your rationale).
I think it's to be expected that there are angry supporters on either side that can take something and run into the unfair territory.
However, when a candidate tries to create a campaign slogan around it (I'M NOT BITTER!) it becomes disgusting.”

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2008/04/13/BA161046G7.DTL&tsp=1
While I still don't believe what Obama said was derogatory, I believe he chose his words based on the audience before him.
Knowing you're speaking before a larger audience, I believe he would have chosen his words better to describe the same situation.
I think putting this tape out there was a 'gotcha' moment for poorly chosen words to a small audience that is too easily exploited.
And no, I truly don't believe this type of reporting is fair to ANY candidate.
As for HuffPo and it's reporting, - what if Hillary is just the more flawed candidate? Why is it HuffPo's responsibility to fabricate or create controversy in the Obama campaign where there is none?
And when there has been... the Wright controversy wasn't kept of these pages by any means.”

“Controversy is in the eye of the beholder. So are flaws.
Suppose Hillary or any other politician for that matter made such a vast generalization about inner city dwellers, labeling the use of drugs, or the joining of gangs as the result of bitterness.
She/he would have been crucified as being a elitist, a racist and using false generalizations.
You still don't get it. Senator Obama implied to a rich group of people that a particular poor group of people may not vote for him because they are bitter and as a result turn to guns, gods and use discrimination to comfort themselves.
I have no doubt that Senator Obama "meant" no disrespect just as Senator Clinton meant no disrespect when she said LBJ's legislation was important in bringing MLK's dream to reality. That did not keep Obama supporters here and elsewhere from labeling a lifetime civil right's advocate as a racist.
And yet now, the blogger and the Clintons and their supporters are being accused of everything from pandering to lying to overreacting to manipulation of the facts. WOW. Talk about a double standard.
And for the record, my 'educated" family has been hunting in PA for as long as I can remember...good times, bad times, regular times. And they go to church. But they are not xenophobes or bigots.”

“As an Obama supporter, I can honestly say I would not be remarking here if the same had happened to Hillary - I'm not a supporter of hers, and I'd assume there would be plenty of her supporters making those comments.
I would, however, still BELIEVE it unfair to Clinton having someone publicize a secretly recorded speech from her fundraiser.
More importantly - I'd be very disappointed in Obama (to the point of reconsidering my support for him) if he blatantly misrepresented and exploited her words such as she is doing now.
And that's the truth.”
