Sherrod Brown: Obama Focused On Main Street, But Not All His Advisers Are

Sherrod Brown: Obama Focused On Main Street, But Not All His Advisers Are

Commented Nov 23, 2009 at 07:38:22 in Politics

“"but I wonder if there are reasons which we are not aware of for some of the choices. "

The Answer to that question is: Politics

The Audacity of Hope was trounced by Politics, one in a while you have to follow your conviction and say well I am really to loose my presidency to fight for what I believe in. What was needed would have been unpopular in the short run but beneficial for the nation in the long run, this is were your argument about patience is relevant, but you initially need some real courage!

Note:because of his middle of the road, bipartisan approach the adequate solution would have been too radical and the gop would have painted him as socialist but so what? socialism for wall street but capitalism for main street, how sweet is that!”

“I agree with your assessments...but are you stating that we need to be patient with the current economic policies? Please correct me if I am wrong...

How about looking back in history to find adequate answers to our current predicament for Afghanistan ( watch Bill Moyer from this past Friday)
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/11/21/bill-moyers-plays-lbj-tap_n_366436.html

How about using the Swedish example on the bailout front which actually benefited main street instead of wall street....

How about reinstating the glass steagall act which is at the root cause of our current economic predicament !

How about bringing on board those who predicted this mess instead of those who creates this mess such as Krugman, stiglitz, roubini etc....instead of the people who enabled this mess Summers etc.....

I agree with your premise about being patient on the economic policy front, but when we already know that rat poison will most likely kill the cat, shouldn't we replace it with milk?”

“While I agree that there are examples we can look to, the problem is that there are many competing ideas out there too, which are being listened to as well.

I agree about the other economists....and I am not necessarily saying that some of choices thus far were wise, but I wonder if there are reasons which we are not aware of for some of the choices.

As to Afghanistan, personally I was against it (due to the history of the region) from the onset. I thought it was not well thought out and didn't adequately address the reality of the situation there. I thought the previous administration made a huge mistake, with how they handled the whole thing. At this point, I don't have a clue what the right choice is anymore...pros and cons on both sides, as well as info, we don't know, which can make any decision difficult.”

“It took me a full weekend actually 3 days friday through Sunday...I read Roubini, stiglitz, the rolling stones article by matt taibi and I also took the time to understand the all derivative business (ponzi scheme)....luckily I am a Finance major so it was not too too hard but still pretty challenging to grasp all these concepts...but after 3 days of intense reading...the summers-geithner pick to me was like what the F....was he thinking...if you take the time to inform yourself the choice is pretty clear you follow Durgan, stiglitz etc...game over...so yep I understand why his intelligence can be questionned but there's only so many things you can do with some many issues on your plate...so it also comes down to his close circle his advisers who seems to have very very poor vetting skills....”

“he's surrounded by guys from Goldman Sachs - as was Bush -

This makes me question his intentions and courage more than anything else.

Why would he hire and appoint these guys unless he was in on the deal or is under threat?

These guys are crooks or the biggest failures in banking history, either way they shouldn't be in charge of an ice cram truck.

Course if you're making tons of money in this economy and on some huge ego trip thinking you're doing God's work then these guys are your heros.

This is a thing of beauty if you look at it from the crooked wall street banker's perspective - to go from Bush to Obama when you could have been faced with an FDR and 150 years in prison like Madoff. Obama plugged their dam and shut the left up. They even hijacked the original tea party and made them all look like nuts.

The amount of greed and arrogance is astounding, but it doesn't seem to over shadow thestupidityof the American people for eating it up”

They should have nationalized the banks Sweden style and focused on the everyday man struggles....nah instead let's help the bank, they will help the economy 10% unemployment rate later...oh and let's not forget instead of cutting down the home loan principal they went for the interest rate who benefits??...the banks again look at the current foreclosure number...we're in with high unemployement and craziness for a longtime now...I am just hoping that the repubs won't take the house back next year and if they do we are really doomed!!....I am mad!!!!”

Your question should be, why did Obama reappoint Bernanke and hire Geithner - the same people under Bush and Paulson who gave us this disaster - if he wasted real reform?

Then follow the money.”
