“I went through breast cancer surgery two years ago this November. My reconstruction failed, I ended up in ICU and now I'm waiting to get my 4th and hopefully, last reconstruction surgery. I would rather go through that than the emotional hell of anxieties. When I was in its clutches, I would literally get down on my knees and beg God to take it away. II think sometimes we are chosen for these challenges because we are meant to help someone else one day. Sure I get anxious at times, but nothing like before.”

“I suffered from debilitating anxiety in my 40sm and so did my mother. My sister would tell me if mom was still alive she would say it's going to pass, and it always did. So I always focused on it passing. I have students who suffer from severe anxieties, and when they come to me for assurance, I tell them the same thing. I let them do what they need to do to calm themselves down. I teach in a rough high school, and most of these young people come from traumatic home lives like I did. But knowing my mom lived through it and my sister lived through it and were able to return to their normal lives, gave me hope. After years of therapy, I learned that I had to remind myself that I'd gone through difficult times before and that I could get through anything. Never underestimate the pain of these fears although they are irrational. For the sufferer, they are very real!”

“Vicky u are an angel... My daughter was abused by her dad and i took her and left him... she suffered with panic and anxiety and depression and night terrors. She is now 28 and divorced her husband as he was abusive in their marraige and everything began again... she had a handle on it before and now add in severe gastritis and other issues healthwise and she is one trooper. my new husband and I are here for her and our grandson. Lots of love and understanding and patience helps. Everything you said is so helpful and works!!! Thank you!”

“Yes, we all live through it but I lived for almost a year with absolute panic and adrenaline running through my heart. It was so bad I could not stand or walk. Someone telling me I would get through it didn't work for me. I had to find my own way and am now able to work again, live on my own again and enjoy life. I still have panic and anxiety attacks but can talk myself through them and cut the attack very short. I am not undermining your therapy I just feel more can be done to help one suffering at the moment.”

I had the same surgery she had in November 2012, but my reconstruction failed. So it was back to the operating room the following night and an overnight stay in ICU. I just had my third reconstruction surgery last July, and I need one more. In addition to the scars in the front, I have huge scars from my back where they needed skin for my future implants. As time goes on, I'm becoming more accepting. Thank you for having the courage to post these pictures. I'd rather see examples of a woman's strength then pictures of Kim Kardashian any day! Also, remember to get your mammograms...i had two surgeons do a breast exam on me before they discovered it on the mammogram. Neither one felt anything!”

AMEN TO THAT! My aunt didn't get a mammogram and they caught her cancer too late. My mother got them and they caught an aggressive kind early before it would have been felt, at which point it would have been very difficult to treat.

Sending you best wishes, prayers, thoughts, love, whatever you'd prefer. Cancer sucks.”

“Unless you've ever had cancer, you don't know what it feels like. Don't tell me to be brave. Don't tell me I have to have a positive attitude or you just have to keep fighting. I really don't have a choice. I was fortunate to have only Stage 1 breast cancer, but I opted to have both breasts removed because of my family history. My mother died of breast cancer 20 years from almost the day I found out that I had it. A month before the revelation I had a mammogram which caught it. My reconstruction surgery following my mastectomy almost cost me my life. I ended up in ICU with nothing left, but, my life which I am extremely grateful. Eight months later I had another reconstruction surgery, which was extremely painful, and will have hopefully the last one this June. That will be four months shy of two years since the first surgery. It is a very lonely place to be. I had not prepared myself for losing both breasts and not having anything there. At times, it was hard to be courageous.I was in so much pain, both physical and emotional.”
